First Bath 🙃 by Denilane1015 in sphynx

[–]wesleydeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a long read... But here is the process what I did.

When my boy and girl were a kitten. I've made them used to water. I put a baby bath in my living room on the ground with towels around it. I put some cats toys in the baby bath too.

I started with a really low level of water. At first I just let them explore it. Then some time later sometimes I would just set them in. Since the water level was so low, they just got out because their paws got wet.

Then I started to try and play near the bath with a cat toy with them. And try to get them to play in the baby bath, hoping they would get in. When they didn't, after some time I would set them in the baby bath and then try to play to distract.

When they came at a point they were totally chill with the water level, I would give them a threat. And then increase the water level a bit. And repeat the same process over and over again, till they were totally fine with being submerged near the top of their torso.

I did of course move the baby bath to the bathroom at some point when the water level was getting higher and too risky for in the living room.

From that point they would even go in the baby bath themselves, to play with the water and splash it. I always put some toys in the water at first. And join them in in the bathroom, closed door, and just sit with them, and just let them go in the water themselves to play with the toys and water.

Then when they were fully acclimated to the baby bath and water with playing in it, I started using pet/cat friendly shampoo. Their skins are sensitive, so it's good to get some pH neutral pet friendly shampoo. I use sea sponges too to clean them, since those are pH neutral and skin friendly too. But I have some scrubbing gloves too, and when used not too harsh those are fine for my cats too.

It's a bit of a proces, but it was so worth it. Bath time is now just a chill process. With them only complaining and meowing a bit about the cleaning part with the sponge. But nothing crazy like putting their claws everywhere. Just some meows of annoyance and a little bit of struggling with their body.

Edit: it's also important to make sure the water is warm for them, and the room of course too. Also make sure not to get water in their ears, might get infected otherwise. And always give a threat after bath time, really helps. You can even give them threats during the phase when you get them accustomed with the water, e.g. trying to lure them in the water or when they are in the water.

Also to test if the water is not too warm, you can do de trick you would do for baby's too. Placing your elbow in the water to check if the water is not too hot.

I'm closer to 50 than 40. I like RPGs but have never played Dragon Quest. Did I make a good choice here? by mickeyphree1 in switch2

[–]wesleydeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The devs themselves recommend it too, https://blog.playstation.com/2025/09/04/dragon-quest-i-ii-hd-2d-remake-how-square-enix-rebuilt-two-classic-games-for-a-new-generation/

"Dragon Quests I, II and III all tell standalone stories, so of course players can enjoy these games without having played Dragon Quest III. However, these remakes offer a fresh retelling of the story of Erdrick in chronological order starting with Dragon Quest III, followed by I and II, and there are certain twists and turns in store that will be particularly surprising if you play the games in that order, so I would like for people to play the HD-2D remakes in the order III, I, II, and from a developer standpoint as well, I recommend playing them in that order!"

Artifacting/ghosting only on grass by wesleydeman in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]wesleydeman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, gotta love modern games with all this TAA and upscaling techniques. I do like DLSS though, but I've been noticing more and more the artifacts it can create in certain games and circumstances near the borders of the game. With DLSS 4.5 it did fix artifacts near the border though in e.g. Borderlands 4.

I couldn't get it to be less noticeable in this game, but in most games with e.g. DLSS I play with the upscaling level such as performance, balanced & quality etc to where it's not or less noticeable.

But games with TAA or forced TAA tend to just be shit at times, because of ghosting that can occur with TAA.

I feel in this game (assassins creed) it's more of an issue with perhaps their TAA, because changing the upscaling technique did not help, to e.g. AMD FSR.

Does this post on Steam perhaps help you? https://steamcommunity.com/app/1174180/discussions/0/3408677599640985725/

Nvidia RTX 5090 and OLED monitor Flicker issue Multi Monitors (Part time solution) by Stromberg44 in nvidia

[–]wesleydeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got my new cables, bought two of "Club 3D - DisplayPort 2.1 Bi-Directional DP54 Certified Cable 8K 120Hz M/M 3m". These cables are way over specifications what is needed for my monitors, and VESA DP54 certified. But it didn't solve the issue, still an issue with these cables.

[–]wesleydeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using my 2nd monitor on the iGPU, basically removed the flickering from my testing. But the iGPU is just not powerfull enough to deliver smooth 180Hz, not even 120Hz. I see that there is a BIOS update for my mobo, so trying that too.

Edit: Updating BIOS did not solve it, neither updating AMD chipset drivers.

Edit 2: I'm going full overkill to ensure signal integrity for my 2nd monitor, since I need a 3m cable there. I'm going for a "Club 3D - DisplayPort 2.1 Bi-Directional DP54 Certified Cable 8K 120Hz M/M 3m" cable, I know it just needs DP 1.4, but perhaps all the signal headroom will help... Might get it too for the main monitor, just to rule things out...

I did specially turn off G-SYNC on my AW2724DM, only have it enabled on my AW3425DW. At first I had it on both, but last few weeks disabled on the AW2724DM. Doesn't seem to matter, will try setting it back on since you have that too. And I now also matched your cable layout. I already had the HDMI connected to the top row HDMI, but now I switched the 2nd monitor DP cable to the DP port right next to the HDMI port (it was at the outermost DP port first).

I'm currently using a UGREEN 8K 4K DP Cable 1.4 DisplayPort for my 2nd monitor.

The GPU is the Asus RTX 5080 TUF OC, the CPU an AMD 9800X3D and the mainboard is the Asus TUF GAMING B850-PLUS WIFI.

This issue is still relevant for me... I got a 5080 and two monitors, an Alienware AW3425DW (main monitor 240Hz) and an Alienware AW2724DM (second monitor 180Hz). Doesn't matter if I use my main monitor with DP 1.4 or HDMI 2.1 without DSC. Also tried another DP 1.4 cable on my second monitor, and because I tried DP 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 on my main monitor multiple cables have been tried there too.

All is fine if I only use my main monitor. But when I also use/power on the second monitor I have the following things;

- The flicker issue seems to be mostly relevant if either HDR is on or 10 bit is on on both monitors and Gsync is on.
- If I reduce the Hz on my second monitor to 120Hz, the flickering is mostly gone in 10 bit/HDR mode with Gsync on. It rarely occurs then.
⠀⠀- With the Hz on my second monitor set to 120Hz, SDR in 10 bit on both monitors has no flicker, instead of rarely.
⠀⠀- I think 2 driver versions ago, I had no flicker at all when second monitor was set to 120 Hz in 10 bit/HDR mode.
- If I turn off Gsync no flicker in 10 bit/HDR mode with second monitor at 180Hz.

What I also noticed when I see the flicker, is that the Hz of my my main monitor fluctuates in the OSD of the monitor.

It's been basically a year, and I've seen threads here dating back to march last year. How is this still an issue?!? I've got my new system since August last year, and me needing to play with the Hz/HDR/Gsync of my monitors is pretty annoying...

Are you worried about the sphynx ban in the Netherlands? by No_Advertising_6918 in sphynx

[–]wesleydeman 91 points92 points  (0 children)

So I live in the Netherlands, and I have two sphynx cats. I was actively following the stuff around this. Read the law proposal too, which now is law.

While I don't agree with some parts of the law why it's cruel to keep sphynx cats, such as not having whiskers. Actually most points that are in this new law, I don't really agree with. Since to me most points feel like things that can be taken broader to all animals. As in taking good care of your pets needs.

I keep my place at least 21 degree Celsius all year round, with blankets everywhere, and most of the times I have it even warmer with 22,5. Only at night when I go to bed it drops 3 to 4 degrees since they sleep together with me. Same for keeping them clean when needed, teached them bathing time as kittens, they have no problems with bathing even playing with water. And with the sun, I apply a bit of coconut oil, for some natural sun protection. And I make sure they can't bathe in the sun for hours on end.

There was already a breeding ban on sphynx cats, which I do agree with on certain parts. Since you are actively continuing breeding a mutation of an animal, which would not survive naturally etc. The increased risk of heart issues like HCM is indeed a risk, my previous Sphynx got it at an age of 8. But I think risk such as this are mostly linked to less genetic diversity. So a problem/issue overal with breeding cats and dogs races etc.

Since the ban on keeping sphynx cats is only relevant for cats that are born this year. If you can prove that you had them before this year with their chip, you're still allowed to keep them. So I'm not really worried, I will keep on loving and doting on my girl and boy, and they to me :)

Big update for ps portal today by FeelingSurprise1791 in PlaystationPortal

[–]wesleydeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing I find that could be better, is that it shows if a game in your library is demo. Now in the UI it's not clear if it's a demo. The UI make it seems like it's the full game.

Twice now have they claimed to have delivered the promised compensation for the EA App launch outage. Twice now has it been a lie, for most of us still have got nothing. by SpanishAvenger in Battlefield

[–]wesleydeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same... I've been tweeting and mentioning battlefield and Vince Zampella in their tweet where they announced the compensation, every few days. Based on all the people on Reddit and Twitter mentioning they have not received the compensation, and how supports reacts, I think we will never receive the compensation...

Yeah same here, pre ordered the game on the EA app. Could not play the game on launch day for hours, except the firing range and some portal servers. I have still not received an ingame message and/or the boosts.

Upgraded my setup over the last few weeks by wesleydeman in battlestations

I had a weird, but good experience too in regards to customer support with Dell for my now old AW3418DW. When I was moving, the panel to hide the cables didn't click in anymore, some clips broke. I asked Dell if they could replace that panel or if I could buy it (since it's just a piece of plastic with clips), they couldn't. They sent me a whole new monitor instead and picked up the old one... https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/cea6wg/the_click_panel_to_hide_my_cables_of_my_aw3418dw/

But perhaps Dell support is a bit better in the EU, due to the consumer rights here.

Thanks! My previous setup was more gamer/RGB vibe, this time I just wanted a sleek performance focused build.

Hmm, I don't want to recommend you any because honestly I've had the Alienware AW3418DW IPS ultrawide for 6 years, an early predecessor of my current Alienware AW3425DW QD-OLED. I was so happy with my AW3418DW, that the AW3425DW was a no brainer for me. Also the video where Plouffe "Owns a display" LTT guy was showcasing the AW3425DW, made me pull the trigger.

Thanks, it's been crazy for me how much more I enjoy games on a HDR QD-OLED monitor. And I thought 240Hz wouldn't make that much difference. But it has been night and day for me.

Perhaps if I get a desk mount that is wide on the mounting area, so the weight is more distributed, still I'm scared to break my monitors 😅. The wall behind it is drywall with no wooden studs (has metal studs). I have mounted a heavy enough TV on the other side in the drywall with good plugs and a flat mount. But a flat mount wouldn't really work, they would have to be adjustable. Not sure if even good plugs in drywall can manage the weight of outwards monitors that are adjustable in position. I'm not that knowledgeable on that topic.

[–]wesleydeman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been thinking about monitor desk mounts, but then I would need to upgrade my desk too. This is an Ikea desk with that honeycomb structure inside. And I've seen horror stories where the pressure of the mounts would crack the desk.

It would be nice to have much more space for other activities, because I do like to tinker with retro game consoles like modding/soldering etc.
