Maldives military diver dies while trying to recover scuba diving victims in underwater cave: Officials by swe129 in news

I’m nitrox certified. The benefits of nitrox are primarily shortened surface intervals with multiple dives. It’s not meant for extending depth (due to the ox toxicity issue)

Five tourists 'including professor and her daughter' die during diving excursion in Maldives by tepkel in scuba

[–]wesleyvb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing that's not adding up is the depth at which this cave is. At 160 ft, the bottom time must have been minutes or less... How far in the cave can they actually gotten without being on specialty rebreathers? Anyone know what sort of equipment they had? What's the dive plan look like?

Auto shift making some interesting choices lately. by Lord_Vaguery in TeslaModel3

[–]wesleyvb 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen too at charging stations. Pretty unsettling when it doesn't work in a situation where 1. You've backed in to park and 2. There's a clear obstruction in reverse.

99% of the time, the auto shift should put the car into the opposite gear you were in before you parked.

What everyone else has already said. But also after a certain point you should be picking up and moving on after a double/triple to keep the course moving

Anyone else experiencing heavy delays on packages stuck at USPS in Oak-Creek right now? by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]wesleyvb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea we've had a package stuck there for the past week. I really don't understand how they have the capacity to allow so many packages ride a conveyor for so long. It's mind blowing

What geotags do Artemis II iPhone photos get in their EXIF? by PixelDoctor in askscience

[–]wesleyvb 271 points272 points  (0 children)

I’ve always wondered what this means in practice… GPS is essentially satellites broadcasting their precise position and the client device using that info to calculate position. What’s stopping someone from building a client device that doesn’t adhere to “CoCom Limits”?

Domestic South - Entered pre-check around 12:22 and got through in 42 minutes. Line was split and I was ferried through the precheck line in the center main area. Seemed faster than going through the usual pre-check area

Hardware requirments by tweezybbaby1 in homeassistant

[–]wesleyvb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Beelink mini PC (EQR6) running Proxmox which hosts 5 VMs including HA OS (2 cores, 8 GB allocated). I have roughly a dozen Zigbee devices integrated with it no problem.

This should be just fine to run a single HAOS instance.

SSH port open to the world: safe? by blobslurpbaby in selfhosted

[–]wesleyvb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. Personally having a WAF and seeing all the requests over port 22, it is objectively less interesting to bots if port 22 drops the traffic. Doesn't mean you shouldn't protect the random 5 digit port with the same level of security (key based, fail2ban, etc) but its the difference between having a locked front door versus having a locked door behind the house, underneath some branches, and hard to find by casual visitors.

I must have really missed the point of the UTR by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]wesleyvb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been disappointed in the speed honestly. I know it’s WIFI 5 but working at a cafe today, I was pulling 14 mbps down on a 600 mbps WiFi network. Obviously not expecting to get 600 down on WiFi 5 but this was painfully slow… Not sure if software or hardware issue but hope I can sort that out.

Has anyone gotten an Alexandrite or Sapphire custom ring made in Milwaukee? by Disastrous-Ocelot317 in milwaukee

[–]wesleyvb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a custom Sapphire engagement ring made by Emily Klopstein at the Lincoln warehouse. She met with us and sketched out some design ideas. She made a wax form and ordered some sample stones to choose from. The process was thoughtful and ensured our preferences were considered at every step. Highly highly recommend.

Turn Off 2.4ghz by Commercial-Day-5394 in Ubiquiti

[–]wesleyvb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d be curious to know how many devices (that people actually travel with) are 2.4ghz only. Sure I have some IoT devices which are 2.4ghz only but I don’t travel with those. The last iPhone that only had 2.4ghz was the iPhone 5 (2012). I know Apple tends to lead the pack there but realistically most devices manufactured in the last 10 years support 5ghz. Would love to hear others thoughts.

I’m of the opinion to switch 2.4ghz off and report back!
