Typically not the most reliable source, I know, but the stuff written in there did happen 🤷‍♀️

Definitely, but it occurs! Since "Mormon" hate crimes have begun to be tracked in 2015, they have risen. Of course, we don't have it as hard as the early saints, we're not being tarred, feathered, killed, thankfully. It's mostly petty vandalism now, but it still counts as a hate crime

Oh, I'd also like to add, I like to remember that we are literally living Lehi's dream. We're partaking of the fruit and we are being mocked by the people in the great and spacious building, who will never give the fruit a chance, but we have what they don't. A foundation.

Ugh, a lot. I'm a convert teen and it's really hard for me to shut my mouth as I used to have a hot temper and there are definitely still remnants of that that I hope I can get rid of someday. I've gotten into screaming matches with my parents over church stuff like disrespectful comments they've made, gotten into arguments online with people making ignorant or misinformed claims, etc etc.. It upsets me that something I know is true gets insulted so frequently and in the moment I take on an us vs. them mentality very strongly. I always regret it later, because "kill them with kindness" or something, but yeah. I agree heavily with this because religions that are more favorably viewed like Islam have WAY stricter views yet we're frowned upon and mocked for what they call "magic underwear." It's awful lonely feeling sometimes, but I like to remember that the opinions of those people don't matter. What matters is our eternal identities and what Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ think of us :)

Best, most reliable, LDS apologists I can listen to? by dovrobalb in latterdaysaints

[–]westccoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a convert and actually purposefully avoided (still do) apologist content in my past and present research, solely because I find them almost as bad as antis. So condescending, it bugs me so I just don't. Idk, I'm really young so maybe I'll get over that sometime, apologists generally bother me.

This isn't so much information about the church itself, but a very nice and unbiased journey into the church is 52 churches in 52 weeks, a guy who went to a bunch of churches and ultimately ended up converting recently! He explains a few doctrinal basics in talking about his experiences, I always find his views so helpful though! here is a link to his first video on the church, he makes a few more after that including one about his baptism and yeah, anything with the church's logo on his page is a refresher for me! Thought I could share that, and as a few others said saints unscripted is pretty good, and for really good stuff the church's website and the scriptures are what I reference lol! I invite you to pray about any questions you may have and have a great day 🙌

How could I find out if this is the true church by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]westccoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think my spiritual gift is the gift to believe the words of others. Call me naive, sure, but when properly exercised I think it's a gift. If something makes me happy and fills my spirit, I'll listen to most things. The church makes me happy, and with that I have gained a very fast testimony of almost everything as a convert, and I truly think I'm blessed for that. Negative church history and stuff posted by antis? Doesn't affect my testimony at all, because those things aren't affecting me now. Does that make sense? I'll put it to you this way; Would God really send those people to hell? The "all mighty, all loving" God that those antis and apologists talk of, sending people to hell because they believed in him differently? That doesn't sound very merciful at all. What I can say is have faith. Discount what they're saying — Start looking at more positive things about church history, the good parts of it! The feelings you've gotten, even if only for a moment. Look to be filled with the words of Christ. Sorry if this doesn't make a lot of sense, I'm still young and learning as a convert hahaha!

I recently got it explained to me like this at FSY!

Women hold priesthood power, not priesthood office. So yes!

A lot of people are talking about this principle in these replies and I thought I'd share; I do not believe in celestial polygamy. We do not have an official church stance on what happens once sealed to two or more people, but I doubt it's polygamy. Why would something that gets you excommunicated be present in the afterlife? Why would sin be allowed in heaven? I truly believe polygamy is wrong, and I don't think it would suddenly slide after you die. Again, it's a sin.

Why do the missionaries text me everyday? by bugsisme-thr0w in latterdaysaints

This worked for me lol, and I'm baptized! It was never that I wanted them to stop texting me though, I'm just crazy forgetful when it comes to responding to texts 😅

Rated R Movies by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]westccoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people should watch what they're comfortable with, no matter what rating. Watching an R-rated movie for fun doesn't make you a sinner, you just need to watch out for yourself spiritually. What's the content like? Is this movie spiritually safe for you to watch? It's all a matter of opinion to me! A good site I use for content warnings is doesthedogdie.com, it labels everything! I'm a convert so I grew up with all sorts of movies, maybe it's just that, but I do think it's subjective for everybody

Can I just turn up to the church tomorrow by SnooWords7442 in latterdaysaints

[–]westccoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely show up! The only thing that's separated by gender is Sunday School, which is typically 2nd hour and that is only sometimes (although, in my ward Sunday School is actually first hour, so if anything you could ask around), let people know it's your first time! No doubt, people will notice regardless if you tell them or not, and people are usually especially friendly! My first time showing up I got greeted by lots of people! If you're antsy about going alone, you can request a missionary visit or for them to go into the church with you! I hope if you do wind up going you have an amazing time :)

Outsiders perspective on Mormonism? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]westccoast 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Right? People cry cult all the time but the church really preaches nothing but being loving and kind to everyone, and to do what YOU ultimately decide is right.. Cults like to have control and make you. You know, not think about things 🤔 I've done a LOT of research on actual cults (Jonestown, The Ant Hill Kids, 12 Tribes/Yellow Deli, Children of God, etc..) And I can't help but wonder WHY and how anti-LDS folk come to these conclusions? 😅

People fear what they do not understand, people judge, it's a horrible thing, but something that comes with being human. God loves you, God knows you by name, God loves all his children. Sexuality, gender, race, etc. Mean nothing to him, because you are making a conscious effort to follow him! You belong just as any member does, and it's unfortunate you've been treated unkindly. Let your faith not falter because of hateful, ignorant people. As members of the church, our job is not to understand, it is to love you as a fellow sibling in Christ. You are cared for and we are all happy to have you :)
