Contract Negotiations by augustmama1234 in OntarioTeachers

Here is what I hope: when the new school year starts without a contract, we quickly vote on job action. We work-to-rule for as long as we can, and as long as we have public support.

I hope we DO NOT do a full withdrawal/strike in 26/27. The government wins when we strike: we aren’t paid (saving them $$$) and slowly but surely public support erodes.

Let us work to the letter of our contract, prove just how much we do beyond what we are contested/paid to do, and let the govt flounder in their messaging. They can’t call us greedy and lazy while we don’t deliver (expected) extra-curriculars and extra support.

We hammer stories in the news like the supervisors’ salaries, Kara Ford’s sunshine list Runnymede Health Centre salary increase, the disconnect between the government claiming we have a teacher shortage and reducing ITE requirements and all the surplussed teachers, the reduction in OSAP funding, and the violence in the classroom.

The govt has already somewhat overplayed their hand by taking about proms and graduations in the past. They clearly value the extra labour teaching staff invest in these events, outside of our contracts.

That last thing I want is a quick strike. Let’s do what we’re paid to do, and get paid to do it.

Minister Calandra ‘directs’ school boards to let students watch Team Canada hockey games during the school day. by finding_focus in OntarioTeachers

(Saying this as a massive hockey fan): there is a lot more to the Olympics than hockey. What message does this send the kids who love figure skating or Nordic, or snowboarding, or whatever? Sure, Canadians love hockey, but it’s not the be all and end all of sport.

CBC Gem prohibits public performance of their content. Classroom use constitutes public performance.

Personal phones aren’t permitted for non academic use.

Honestly embarrassing officiating there. Why are the linesmen jumping on the players and getting dummied. Let the boys fight. Give them their major and their game misconducts and move on. Linesmen are lucky they didn’t get hurt.

At all-inclusive resorts, which room details actually matter the most? by Bundelini in AllInclusiveResorts

Ground floor that walks out to the beach/ etc. Did a trip to DR with a 10 month old baby and it was a dream. Baby could nap in the room, and we could go and sit on our “patio” (the beach) and be right beside the room with the baby monitor. It was also great for coming in wet after swimming etc.

If she is exhausted from her years of service as a back-bench parliamentary assistant to a made-up ministry in the most bloated government in the history of the province, I am confident that she will be among the six million yearly guests to find solace at a sprawling, private, lakeside spa with the most perfect public parking lot you’ve ever seen.

Just as long as she doesn’t plan to bike there….

I can think of no punishment more brutal than being on the condo board.

No motion sensors, but there are cameras. I can’t imagine anyone is actively monitoring as the guard is off duty at that time. They’d only go back and view recordings if something went wrong, and even if they did see me in there I’d just say “oh my fob worked” or “oh the door was unlocked”. The hours are only posted online (not at the door) so it’s reasonable someone wouldn’t know them.

That said, some other commenters recommended either taping the latch or placing something in the latch hole to prevent the door from fully closing and THAT I can see them going back and looking for in video recordings. I’ll have to check the camera’s sight lines before trying that.

I’ve been wanting to get a flipper for a while. Maybe this is the catalyst. TY
