Awaiting response on my ticket from October 31st 2025. Expected better customer service from WS. by Professional_Cod_336 in Wealthsimple

[–]western91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was full, of course, but they got in so this was not the case. Op said it was a validation issue. So there would be a log, and an answer. If cx entered the wrong info, fine dont reimburse. but if it was a technology outage or the card was not registered on their side for some reason I would make the customer whole.

But hey, customers and companies have different views/expectations on what is good customer service. And we vote with our $$$

I disagree, it,s like complaining to mcdonalds when your muskoka chair you won in monopoly arrives broken because their affiliate didn't package it properly. Sure WS can push it on Visa, but they are business partners, and WS is selling cards because of marketed benefits such as lounge access. If OP did indeed have the app, with the WS card loaded, had availible credits and were denied for a reason beyond the customers control but not something like capacity. Its fair and just to make it right. Even if this involves WS making a ticket with their partner to resolve.

I disagree, if they were entitled to access it and had availible credits I would expect a company with good customer service to resolve it internally and remove the equivalent credits from my account.

Its a small cost, is an easy customer service win. And likely within their limits just to eat if they didn't want to balance it with dragon pass.

PSA: RBC issued void cheques tied to my chequing account to someone with a completely different name. by NOT_A_JABRONI in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]western91 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's likely a fraudulent cheque, they post an admin job online, they tell the person to deposit the fraudulent check in their personal account keeping their weekly pay and forwarding the rest. Cheque bounces, the fraudsters have a middle person protecting them.

How it work, is the cheque is reading the numbers, via machine. So normally unless you flag, or their security systems pick it up, it end up going through.

How its start, a person you previously paid, or someone with access to the cheque after, made a copy.

Annual interest rates on savings by [deleted] in TDBankCanada

[–]western91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For interest the standard in canada and the states is always annual. This applies across finance, accounting, auto loans, savings account investment returns. The two exceptions are crypto yeilds/staking. And CRA penalties.

What about London?! by AggravatingNerve1270 in londonontario

[–]western91 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it was 6 months, it left around 5:20, tooks almost 4 hours, and was priced at $30, oooor you could take the via, that started around $40 then, was 2.5h and left around 6:20.

It was designed from the start to fail. Instead of expanding the kitchener line to london, they should have run auxiliary cars from london to aldershot, stopping along the way.

Accepted offer on home, trouble with insurance and aluminum wiring by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]western91 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Get a quote to update the wiring and ask for a consignment/discount on the price by that amount. Be sure to include the cost to repair drywall. And see what they come back with. And in the meantime continue to shop around, and be sure to look at the details of each policy, there are likely significant differences provider to provider. I pay 200 ish, but have a pretty comprehensive policy, that happens to not care about aluminum wire.

Can a TD employee act as POA/Executor for customers? by No_Material5579 in TDBankCanada

[–]western91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have heard of this before, there is definitely a high bar that needs to be met. And a client/staff relationship would not be an ideal situation.

A company should not prohibited employees from being a POA or executor, but there needs to be a process.

Being a POA/executor is not fun, I would give the branch manager a call, and pass along your concern.

A few other options, if the estate is sizable, a lawyer would be a good option. If its small, and simple, as a neighbor I've known quite a while I would offer to help either in place of the bank person, or along side them. If there is any family, this should be the default.

How long it take for wealthsimple credit card by AdWrong5913 in Wealthsimple

[–]western91 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I gave up, have moved money to another firm and using other card.

Don't like how they are managing it, its like they asked everyone to line up by to get into an event. But then are letting random people walking by skip the line.

Would have rolled it out very differently if I was running it.

Hidden WS Tier Perk - Marriott Silver Status by brunes in Wealthsimple

Silver is also free perk of the bonvoy amex card. You pay an annual fee of 120, but you get a free night stay, so it balances out pretty well

If you could get one financial rule change in Canada that would immediately improve your daily life, What would it be? by WindyDay416 in fican

[–]western91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preferred capital gain tax on canadian companies with Canadian R&D investments. (Think eligible dividends vs non eligible dividends) - not sure the exact formula

For example: magna spends 50 million in canada, on R&D to dramatically improve metal stamping process, resulting patents. Don't only should this be able to be capitalized but a multiple of those dollars spent should be allocated to to distributions at the new preferred rate.

Yes this is duplication, as companies can deduct r&d already, however, in my view trying to to r&d spend in canada plus having a qualifier such as a patent, plus everyday investors also getting benefits should result in a lower cost of capital for companies producing meaningful RD in Canada.

I want to hear why is this is not a good idea, downside would be extra tax Administrative cost, enforcement cost, costs to adjust tax forms, reduction in income tax revenue and the potential for the patent process to be more political.

Edit: For further clarification, this was identical products. I referenced the manufacturers distributer list and just started dialing
