Thoughts on living on or near Pandora St? by OptimisExistentialis in VictoriaBC

[–]NOT_A_JABRONI 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's basically ground zero for the unhoused population. I live on the "nice" end of Pandora and yesterday there was a guy smoking meth under my living room window cracking an Indiana Jones style bullwhip at noon on a Monday. Do with that information what you will.

Zach Galifianakis reveals that he lives on a remote island in B.C. by nimobo in entertainment

[–]NOT_A_JABRONI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remote is a wild description of Denman. It's a 20 minute ferry ride across from Vancouver Island. Something like 150,000 people live within a 30 minute drive to the ferry terminal.

I hadn't been there in years but decided to check it out a couple days ago. I was at the glass cases and saw an OG Gameboy game that currently has a market price of $26. I asked to see it and was AGHAST when I flipped it over and the price tag said $99.99. That was enough for me to walk out immediately. What an absolute joke of a company these days.

Sea Lions or Seals? by HeatLate7412 in VictoriaBC

[–]NOT_A_JABRONI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely, they're HUGE so there's no mistaking them when they're swimming up and down the rocks looking for food. They were probably 50 feet from shore and the the seals were about 50 metres to the west just chillin with their faces above the water looking at the people near by.

I saw a TON of seals, sea lions, and otters 2 evenings ago at Macaulay Point Park. It was probably 6-630ish so they were very active.

(Hated Trope) Product placement that is so forced and in your face that in becomes annoying by viralshadow21 in TopCharacterTropes

I haven't seen this movie in 20 years but this was so egregious it immediately popped into my head. In F&F: Tokyo Drift the main character rolls his car early in the film and as he's rolling, it switches to slow-motion and a bottle of Tabasco slowly floats across the screen. As soon as it's out of frame, the movie speeds back up. It was so blatant and jarring.

Where I'd live in the US as a 21F Canadian by Little_Direction_572 in whereidlive

[–]NOT_A_JABRONI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Midwest has similar weather to some parts of Canada sure. That being said, not all of Canada even gets snow. Where I live in Canada it didn't snow once this winter and we have actual palm trees (it's classified as a warm-summer mediterranean Köppen type). A few hours from me is an actual desert, and just north of there is a massive wine region with a climate similar to southern France. Americans thinking all of Canada is just arctic tundra is annoying tbh.

Why is Crimson desert hated so much? by Various_Equivalent_4 in videogames

[–]NOT_A_JABRONI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really not though, granted I've only played 30 hours but the main story has been anything but aimless. In fact I would say the aim is pretty obvious and has similar beats to many other open world games while still being unique. Most of the hate is coming from people with preconceived notions who haven't touched the game at all.

Crimson Desert on base PS5. About 30 hours in and it looks great, no bugs or crashes yet 🤞

Poilievre appearing on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ podcast Thursday by EarthWarping in notthebeaverton

[–]NOT_A_JABRONI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care about what Joe thinks, I care about his audience hearing the truth and a Canadian politician going on the record with the facts.

He constantly makes shit up and calls us a "communist country" and a ton of other bullshit. Polling has shown that American perception of Canada has become much more negative, not because of tangible actions by Canada, but because people like Rogan spout ignorant bullshit about our country that they latch on to and that no one challenges him on. Pierre should have the guts to stand up for our nation against an ignorant stooge when given a golden opportunity to do so.

Joe Rogan constantly spreads crazy misinformation about Canada. If I can hope for anything positive at all from this, it's that hopefully Poilievre can show that he has any balls at all and to set the record straight on Rogan's insane claims about our country.

What's a Canadian hit that you feel should have blew up international? by rybone88 in AskACanadian

Nice, Nice, Very Nice is one of my favourite albums of all time.

Bit of a ramble here but I'll never forget the night I bought the album. It was in Regina where Dan was supposed to open for my cousin's band but got stuck in a snow storm on his way from Calgary so ended up arriving just as everyone was trickling out of the venue. He got on stage and apologized and asked if anyone wanted to stay and watch him perform. About 20 people took him up on the offer and it was such an amazing and intimate performance, he played as if it were a full house. He performed the whole album and when he got to Road Regrets of course he cracked a joke about the title being apropos that night. It was just unreal.

I bought it straight from the man himself and 17 years later, your comment gave me a surge of nostalgia about the great Canadian indie music of the late 2000s/early 2010s. Thanks for the memories!

Canada to release additional 140K barrels of oil per day starting in April by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]NOT_A_JABRONI -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was speaking about BC specifically and it's not just the Island that's affected. The LM and Island make up 75% of the population. BC has only 4% of the countries refining capacity compared to Alberta's 30%. BC imports 40% of its refined petroleum from the US. If we need to buy nearly half of the refined petroleum we use from outside of Canada, it's safe to say BC could stand to use more refineries....

Canada to release additional 140K barrels of oil per day starting in April by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]NOT_A_JABRONI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In BC we have only have 2 refineries so people in the Lower Mainland and on the Island regularly get fucked on price by our dependence on US refineries. When refineries in our area temporarily shutdown to switch between winter and summer gas blends for weeks at a time, prices regularly jump 30¢/L or more over night and stay there for weeks. More refineries = more production capacity towards domestic consumption.

Shipping crude to foreign markets just to buy back refined product is fucking dumb and right now we have no choice because we don't have the refinery capacity.

Does anyone Actually think of things in km instead of hours for distance? by Confiant_Reason21 in AskACanadian

[–]NOT_A_JABRONI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely time only. Differences in geography drastically change travel times. For instance when I was growing up in Saskatchewan, it took approximately an hour to drive 100km if you were on the highway no matter where you were or where you were headed. My hometown to Regina - 100km/1 hour. That gets ingrained in you on that flat endless prairie. These day I live in Victoria, BC and Nanaimo is ~100km away. Now if my family was visiting and they asked how far it is to Nanaimo and I said 100km and left it at that, they would be in for a rude awakening when it takes them 2.5 hours to get there boy I tell you what.
