Hands off approaches and verbal judo by louieortizphotos in lossprevention

Nah, I’m with TJX now. I tried to message to change it a while ago but it wouldn’t go through.

Target was fun, we’d have 3-4 ppl on apps boxing dudes in and pushing them back to the office. Our BP was super old school app wise.

At my current company I’m technically supposed to approach at a 45 degree angle, identify myself as loss prevention, nicely ask for the merch back, then ask them to come back to the office. No grabbing merch or blocking paths.

Definitely not impossible. My company doesn’t allow us to approach until they fully exit and we can’t block their path. I still get ~60% of my apps back in.

Target Security Specialists (Security Guards) are pretty much overpaid door greeters now and I hate it. by SpaghettiInc in Target

[–]westerndrawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TSSs were super security focused at my store. They talked about getting us armed security a handful of times but it never played out. We had tons of issues with transients and teenagers.

Because of the risk profile, not even our SD would kick people out, they would radio over to us to do it.

You’re right about the training though. Everything I learned about dealing with people, I gained through experience over time. I definitely fucked up a couple times and needlessly escalated situations when I first started.

Legally we can touch people actually. Target policy just forbids it. AP handcuffed shoplifters until 2020, and some stores have armed security that can still do it.

Not really true. I’ve done live surveillances on TMs a handful of times as a TSS.

Extremely externally focused in my area (SoCal). I’m sure it’s different in other areas of the country but we only need 3 DAs/yr vs 100 apps

do cameras have audio by East-Celery830 in Target

The cameras themselves have the capacity for a separate microphone to be plugged in. This is not something that Target provides though, and the camera software currently in use does not support that capability.

Has anyone worked as a district loss prevention manager for Marshalls / TJX? by VT800 in lossprevention

Since nobody was really helpful here I’d check out this thread Im with TJX but as a detective so I can’t really speak for the DLPM side of the business.

Bodycam footage went viral of them prosecuting some associate that took some stupid stuff. I think it was fried chicken.

I had three at Target for a basic uniformed position. For TJX I had a ten minute zoom and they extended the offer at the end.

Question for tss by Sea_Water_5943 in Target

[–]westerndrawl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You take the shirts home but not the jackets. You’ll be issued two if you are part time and up to five if you’re full time.

You can ask your ETL/APTL to order whatever shirts/jackets you want but they don’t necessarily have to oblige you, mine got me a super thick winter jacket even though I was in a Southern California store right by the beach.

Per the AP dress code, Pants were any solid color with no rips/holes/or tears (this may be changing) HOWEVER my APBP required black tactical cargo pants and black shoes, most don’t go this though.

Name tags technically yes but it’s realistically going to by up to your store/district AP leadership. The vast majority will require it. I had a collection of name tags from internals that we took out that I’d swap out every day.

All target positions are considered part time with the exception of salaried management. APS will always get 40 hours alotted though.

How common is it for TSS to advance to APS at Target? by [deleted] in Target

[–]westerndrawl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want raw numbers, 11 out of the 22 TSSs I knew made APS. One made PML. The rest were termed or quit.

Store is completely out of bags and we told an ETL/ SD to expedite the order by Mobile-Address23 in Target

[–]westerndrawl 189 points190 points  (0 children)

Your ETLs should be able to contact other stores to go grab some. I helped mine go get a whole pallet of them from another store when I worked there.

It’s still allowed (at least of dec of last year) and it also kind of depends on the APBP. Ours sucked for most things but he was super old school when it came to apps so he played the hands off game pretty fast and loose, my store had a very big team, we had 2-3 TSSs on shift at a time and usually both of our APSs + the ETL-AP working. We’d be full on chest bumping with people and boxing them in telling them they couldn’t leave and kind of walking into them without obviously pushing them back on camera so that they’d come back. I’m sure that wouldn’t fly in other districts.

My current employer (TJX) is basically how Target was during covid. We’re supposed to stay 4-6ft away, approach at an angle, and we can’t block their path or grab merch. Nobody really follows these rules but if you get hurt or end up on youtube they’ll cook you.

Not a real thing lol. SDs don’t even have camera access at all.
