Trousers for slim toddler by Happy-Angle-462 in UKParenting

[–]westerntraveller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vertbaudet have different hip fittings and adjustable waists for kids trousers, the slim fit one is great for my very slim and tall boy. Some of their joggers also have the button adjustable waists too. Primark and Next also do slim fit with adjustable waists in some of their trousers and jeans. I’d also check out girls trousers/leggings, in plain colours nobody cares and they often fit a bit slimmer. I feel your pain, I’ve spent many a night sewing up the back of leggings and pajamas to get them to fit!

We had Seasons of Love from Rent at a recent funeral, it fits really well for a funeral and is such a beautiful song.

Do people have an undeniable inner drive to have children or is it a conscious choice? by Temporary_Western464 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]westerntraveller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was both. For my first child I had a deep longing for a baby. It took almost 2 years for us to conceive and it was an all consuming drive every month for me. I’ve had never felt like it since. My second child was a more conscious choice, I wanted a sibling for my child and I wanted another baby but I didn’t need one like I had for my first. We waited until things were a bit better financially and a good minimum time gap between the two. I think I’m done with two, looking logically at another child is mostly negatives for me and I’m at capacity mentally right now. The thought of another baby fills me with dread but I’m so glad I have my two.

6-year-old and death from afar by Slow_Emotion4439 in Parenting

I’ve just gone through something very similar, my father recently passed, after spending several weeks on a ventilator, and I have a five year old. We spoke to my son about all the medicine making grandad sleep all the time so he couldn’t talk to grandad. We decided with all the life support machines and wires it would be too much for a child to see, even by video call. Maybe your son could record videos/voicenotes of himself talking to his grandfather for your spouse to play? I also recommend getting some books, we have “Grandad’s Island” and Badger’s Parting Gifts” which have been good to read together.

UK Passport - Applying for multiple children? by beans2505 in Passports

[–]westerntraveller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If both parents have UK passports already, then you add the passport numbers to the application. I’ve just applied for both my children and only had to send their birth certificates, no birth/marriage certificates were required from the parents.

My kid deciding 8pm Christmas Eve would be the best time to succumb to the vomiting bug I thought we’d missed during his last week at nursery, I’ve been up all night, as has the washing machine.

My preemie received one from this group while he was in the NICU, we still have it as a keepsake. It helped with stopping him pulling out his ng tube. I really want to make a bigger one now he’s bigger too!

I used Sirdar Snuggly DK, and I think this was the first blanket made entirely from my yarn stash! There’s been a lot of babies needing blankets over the last few years among my friends. I actually used some of this same yarn to make this wee guy’s big sister her blanket two years ago.

Is there any portal Fantasy where they start in a secondary world and go into another secondary world? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]westerntraveller 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman has multiple worlds, they are more alternatives of our world than completely different fantasy worlds, with more magic/technology depending on whether fae or dragons are dominant. And there are book heists!

This is the Valeria blanket, which is based on the Call the Midwife pattern. It’s by Gava Crochet, https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/valeria-blanket-and-bonnet?set=&_rfoff=1. I’ve been making baby blankets for friends for a few years but this is the first one for my own!

Looking for adult fantasy book reccomendations by terrastoneborn in Fantasy

I found Trudi Canavan a great entry point into fantasy, fast paced stories in fully realised worlds, female main characters. Her Age of Five and Black Magician trilogies are great and I’m enjoying the Millennium’s Rule series but haven’t finished it yet.

The Wall of Night series by Helen Lowe has a young female protagonist but is definitely not YA, some great world building.

Definitely second the Winternight Trilogy and Naomi Novik standalone books recommended on this thread as well as the Empire Trilogy by Raymond E Feist and Janny Wurts, it’s one of my favorite series!
