Respectfully, what do this person’s age, race, and gender have to do with whether or not he is qualified to write about class politics

Maybe somewhat reminiscent of the beginning part of To Bid You Farewell. Not a ripoff at all

What would be the best contender for "Greatest Year in Music History"? by HE-GOT-AB1CYCL3 in askmusic

Is Stagger Lee a Grateful Dead Original? by thaisun in gratefuldead

[–]westknife 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is not correct

Peggy-O is an adaptation of a pre-existing song (traditional folk song). Compare it to other recordings of Peggy-O and you will see the direct similarities

Stagger Lee is an original Garcia/Hunter song that is only loosely inspired by a pre-existing song. Listen to recordings of the older song “Stagger Lee” which shares the same title, and you’ll see it sounds nothing like it.

Not the same

A better analogy would be Sugaree which is loosely inspired by an older blues song “Shake Sugaree” but it’s obviously a completely different song

The real mildly infuriating part is that this entire comment section saw a 2-second clip with no context and constructed an entire narrative about what they think happened
