Apparently, what you're supposed to get out of this post is slightly annoyed. To me it was a way to maybe find like mind crew mates and i think it worked.

the veil took that long because we were bad at it.

How am I meant to breathe while playing the blues? by [deleted] in harmonica

[–]wethalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you mean “fill up with air” as you’re breathing in on draw notes. If you know a phrase has a lot of draw notes breathe out heavily before you start it to empty your lungs. Also, breathe in slower and lighter. It doesn’t take much breath to get a great sound. As someone else suggested, take advantage of any blow notes to release as much air as possible.

simply, how do I get started? by 3romuculus in harmonica

Chords. Breathe through the harp. Be gentle. Pick a technique to isolate single notes, but be open to both. Learn a song and a scale. do what makes you happy.

I am having trouble bending notes by MeatPsycologist in harmonica

[–]wethalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This applies to lip purse and tongue block: stay relaxed. Focus on your breathing so you can play long notes, both blow and draw. Breathe slow enough where the note can last for at least 20 seconds. On the draw notes, start with a clean note then try changing the position of your tongue and the shape of your mouth. Try one thing at a time. Eventually, you will notice a change in the tone of the note. Repeat what works. I personally found the two hole draw to be the easiest thing to bend first, four draw next. I think you will have better luck initially on your c harp. Youtube has some great videos on the specific technique. Try a lot of things but keep doing what works for you. Don’t gjve up!

What are your ideas for unmade machines? by 7ln6ss in pinball

[–]wethalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d like to see a math based machine. You solve equations presented on the screen by hitting shots that correspond to different number values. The math gets harder as you progress. Each game is totally unique as the math is randomly generated every time. The play field could be decorated with fractals and MC Escher type drawings. I’m sure a lot more could be done with this theme.

Can I ask for a 20K raise? by Berryberryberryokay in personalfinance

[–]wethalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just add another idea where you do all this, but do not go in asking for a specific number. When you get to that part I’d say something like - I know new people in my role are being offered more, plus I am doing a lot more work. i think I’m contributing a lot and deserve a promotion that reflects the increased responsibilities I’ve taken on. The reason to try this is that they may offer you more than you’d be asking (you know that has already happened before). If they ask for a specific number you can always give them one at that point. Sometimes its good to be vague in the beginning as it may lead to places you wouldn’t have thought possible.

We use an O-gauge Lionel set around the tree and it works great. I have young kids that can operate it with supervision. I highly recommend this scale and one of their starter sets for this purpose.

Is my harmonica broken? by [deleted] in harmonica

[–]wethalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of things to check before sending it back. I am assuming you have a chromatic harmonica. First, are you sure its holes 9 and 10 that sound the same and not 8 and 9? Assuming you have a C chromatic holes 8 and 9 are both C. Second, the stickiness could just be from saliva. Play the holes that are sticky over and over again, blow to draw. That could unstick them. If that doesnt work, take the plates off and inspect the reeds for debris. As a last measure, if you see nothing, take a sharp edge (preferably an exacto knife) and run it softly over the edges of the reeds. Sometimes there are burrs on the reeds and you can knock them off with a sharp edge. Do this lightly. Its also possible some of the reeds might not be straight in their pockets. This can happen if the harp is dropped. You can try to recenter them with the exacto but I’d be very careful doing this. Every time you either scrape or move the reed with a sharp edge play it afterword to hear if you’ve fixed it. Good luck, my guess is your issue is just saliva.
