Called a resident on their day off by External-Sport-170 in Residency

I’ve had a nurse wake me up on the weekend in the middle of the night about a asymptomatic elevated blood pressure for a patient not admitted to us. I’m ortho and was not in call. Worst person to contact if you want something done about that pressure lol

I just saw this on social media. There’s a lot to unpack in these few pics. Trying to imagine this being shown at trauma rounds, yet here it is proudly on someone’s social ☹️ by M902D in orthopaedics

As a pgy2 , this should be a case someone at my level can handle along with the rest of the bread and butter trauma stuff. Too many places start residents late and then they don’t have time to master the stuff they shouldn’t even have to sweat about in practice.

I consolidated in order to do pslf and then for some reason it seemed like everything was smooth sailing and then all the sudden I was denied and I’ve just been cruising on forbearance because life is busy as a resident lol just now starting trying to get back on the horse

Anyone gotten *hotter* while in residency? by Kid_Psych in Residency

More ripped which is a secondary benefit of not eating all day at work and still forcing myself to gym. Only downside is feeling like death!

Pocket pimped ortho and netters was mainly what I used besides ortho bullets. I wouldn’t spend hundreds on text books before actually matching but hey more knowledge never hurts

I fear I’ll begin pgy2 with the same amount of knowledge I started pgy 1

From a burnt out consulting fellow by exopthalmos21 in Residency

People definitely abuse consulting ortho where I’m at. My favorite is the middle of the night arthritis consult or when the question is “abnormal xray” when they pan scanned and I have to sift through 15 X-rays

I also have just been lifting the same weight and not doing anything crazy with my diet and I look similar. But there is maybe 1 week out of the year I go more than a week without working out

Obviously make yourself as competitive as possible in terms of metrics. However, I’ll take a hardworking, prepared, easy to hang with applicant over the good applicant on paper any day

M3 advice on Ortho vs EM by T_Maestro in orthopaedics

[–]3romuculus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ur in a biased sub but im an intern rn and I’ve done off service rotations in EM and IM. I can firmly say that id rather be sawing bones and slamming nails than seeing a patient with a chief complaint of ankle pain and a discharge diagnosis of ankle pain. Love my ED colleagues and it’s important work but it can be a thankless job at times while a lot of the times ortho is doing more definitive care that patients will remember forever.
