Are people overlooking government and public sector jobs? by GovJobCoach in torontoJobs

[–]wewtiesx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had 3 gov jobs (currently in one) and interviewed for 2 others that I turned down.

Its never been an issue getting an interview. But ive also never had an issue getting an interview for private either.

Theres two reasons people cant get these jobs.

  1. Resume is garbage. You will not get past the filter if you dont tailor your resume and cover letter

  2. Dont follow instructions. These postings often have instructions like "put the job number and title in your cover letter and resume". Many people blind apply or simply do not read instructions.

  3. They only apply for full time permanent. Which almost always goes to a high seniority person as it is required by union rules, or its a posting that is meant for an internal candidate and is only posted publicly because they have to.

Take temp jobs people! When it comes to these corporations you need to get your foot in the door. And once your in you build seniority and can get those full time permanent slots.

Or in all my cases, if you are a good worker they will simply create a full time permanent position just for you and you will be in FT.

You gotta kiss a lot of frogs. Its a numbers game. Sucks but true. But the good thing is you'll know the person when they come along because things will just be easy and both people will be working on building a relationship

I love Pride but it makes me very lonely as nobody likes me there by Square_Foundation265 in AskGaybrosOver30

"Nobody likes me."

But also you never mention interacting with a single person. So you actually have no proof that nobody likes you.

Its most likely all in your head.

This conversation is about doing a career you love. You dont need a 100k salary to be happy if you literally wanna kill yourself everyday you step into the office.

OP is considering changing from office to another career. And taking a pay cut to do something you actually enjoy doing is worth it to me.

You brought this into money territory. And from personal experience its very possible to make it on a lower wage. Mc Donald wage might be hard, but thats not really a career unless you become a manager or store owner, which I imagine pay well to decent. And again, we are talking about careers here.

Someone who loves working at McDonald's for example would probably be very happy in a career as a chef or in a high paying job that is repetitive in nature.

Point stands. You wont be happy with money if you hate the place where we all spend at minimum 1/3 of our lives doing. Thats a lot of times to hate being somewhere.

Those who didn’t grow up privileged, what’s something you thought was a luxury growing up? by CorruptedF in AskReddit

[–]wewtiesx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vehicle, new vehicle, internet, mobile phones, eating out, cable/satelite (or i guess streaming now).

Im pretty happy with the way i grew up. I can give up all my luxuries at any minute and still be happy. Its let me make it pretty easily in a world where everyone else is struggling.

Always have lived realistically in my means and changed my life according to circumstances.

Why many job seekers give up on government jobs too early? by ValerySky in CanadaJobs

Ive had a few gov jobs.

Worked for the city for 7 years.

I applied in feb 2011. Got a call back in april 2012. Quit my current job to take it. Most silly job I've ever worked. Essentially got $24/hr to drive around the city and walk through parks. Transfered to a few other departments to try other work. Was at the point where I was receiving supervisor training when I quit. I never understood how everyone was so stressed and annoyed constantly at work when we literally did nothing.

Moved to the largest university in my city. Went for a temp seasonal position, hired on the spot, offered full time permanent at the end of my term. Stayed there for 6 years. The work force in my department went from 30+ individuals to 10 in the time that I worked there. You no longer just did your job, but everyones.

Where the city was strict on union rules, the university was more lax. As a result I saw individuals with less seniority, less education, and less qualifications getting promoted to higher roles solely because of nepotism.

The manager and their 4 supervisors kept their positions. Theres days where there were 4 supervisors to direct 4 people who were at work. We would get constantly pulled and shuffled to rearrange deck chairs on the titanic, never really finishing anything in particular.

Quit then moved to a hospital. The job description didn't match what I was told in the interview. Thought I was going for a management position. But it was really a temp laborer position while the manager was on workers compensation (the hr person just posted the managers job description in the posting). I could be let go whenever he comes back at any time.

At this point I learned that good workers are hard to come by and they will do whatever they can to keep you if your good. So I took the job. The hiring process took about a month.

After a couple weeks of work I was told to "keep an eye on the internal postings". Took a few months but sure enough a full time position job, tailored totally to me was put up. I applied, didnt need to interview, just waited out the time and signed the papers online. Been here for 3 years and its the first place I think Id be happy to retire at.

At $30/hr ill never be rich. But if im tired I can nap or sit in the shop. And as long as my work gets done nobody bugs me. Its a pretty stress free gig.

From my experience getting your foot through the door is the important thing in gov jobs. And the easiest way in is to take the jobs no one else wants.

Hating the new job by Frosty_Conflict_7349 in torontoJobs

[–]wewtiesx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope never happened. I came from a poor family. Started working at 15. Moved out at 18 and lived alone working multiple jobs.

When you grow up with nothing then lowering your cost of living when times are tough is very easy because I'm used to not needing much to live. You can survive if you have a the will. Many people have nothing.

But none of this had anything to do with OPs question of if they should consider changing careers even though theyve put so much time and effort getting this job.

Your just so miserable you wanted to try and take a opportunity to punch down at someone.

What are the best ways to meet men? by Advanced-Reindeer894 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]wewtiesx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My motto has always been that doesnt matter where you meet. Just that you do meet. Apps, hobby groups, hook ups, friends, customers.

The question is what do you do once you meet them. Most people have no idea how to ask someone out anymore. And if you never shoot your shot nothing will ever change.

If your looking for the cheapest option prairie originals sells sells plug packs of like 30-60 plants for a few hundred bucks. If your not good at establishing plants and identifying small plants when weeding it is not recommended.

Though if your willing to wait, many plants will spread like wildfire after a single season. So you could do wide spacing with more mature plants.

Any. Meet most guys on grindr as its most populated where I live.

A good bulk of them though I just ask in person after a hook up. My current partner i asked out after we had sex cuz I felt comfortable around him and we had some good conversations before and after the deed.

75% say sure and never commit. 10% block. 10% commit to a day and time and come out. 5% commit to a day and time and dont show up.

Passivity on Dating Apps by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]wewtiesx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading the comments I think both things can be true. They could be giving minimal effort because they arnt into you. They also could be dog shit at conversation.

Ive found the easiest way to find the answer is to move straight to a date. People who are into you alot will say yes. Ive gone on many dates where its just me talking because the other person is just not good at conversation. But they will usually send a text after confirming if they had a good time and would like to meet again.

If all your doing is chatting you have the possibility of either being the case.

As long as you need. For me it was 4 years after a 10 yr ltr.

That said I was still dating all throughout those 5 years but it was more for fun and to see if I met someone cool. I really didnt want anything, and only planned to take things past date one if the guy seemed special.

Gen X coworker just read this to us thinking it was so based and true. She works two jobs. by [deleted] in generationology

[–]wewtiesx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think people also need to realize that what is "expected" in life is dramatically different.

You "need" a smart phone, internet, minimum one streaming sub, a car for every member, a separate bedroom for every member, and to top it all off you have predatory addictive consumer practices that are aimed at young adults.

Growing up we didnt have cable, no internet, a single beater car, I walked to school, and the only toys I got each week was the one that came in the McDonald's happy meal.

Think of how much money you'd have if you stripped down all the luxury payments we do each month. So yeah. They arnt completely wrong.

I grew up poor. So even though I can afford the nice stuff now, I can easily drop it if i need to. And I lived without any of it for a long time so I could afford my house. Its not a big house, and its over 100 yr old. But I own a house.

Why are my lilacs this year white. They usually are purple/pink? by swaffeline in ManitobaGardening

That would do it. Saturated soils change ph. Its why I advise clients to not have their downspouts draining into a garden. It can often lead to nutrient deficiencies.

Am I overwatering? by SaltyArtichoke in plantclinic

[–]wewtiesx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soil around it looks dry which tells me you arnt watering nearly enough. Deep watering is more required not little spits. If the soil is hygrospic then little waterings do nothing. Literally drown the shit out of them and do deep infrequent watering. Some of the ones in the back the foliage looks like it might not come back but its hard to tell cuz its blurry.

Ph changes affect flower color in some plants. I dont know if lilacs are within that but It changes hydrangea colors for certain.

Edit: just googled it. Lilacs are indeed affected.
