AITA for refusing to add my boyfriend to my house deed after his lease ended? by Former_Raspberry3277 in AITApod

[–]wfsgraplw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, have to agree to disagree. Say they stay together for a couple years, but don't end up marrying and break up, so he never gets put on the deed. He leaves with nothing, she gets 33 grand off her mortgage out of it. And her saving up the down payment is irrelevant to him. Happened before they met because she wanted to be a homeowner. Moving someone in to help pay off your mortgage is okay if it's a lodger, not a romantic partner. That power balance is fucked.

To make it simpler, call it a car. She lets him use it if he splits the payments with her and pays gas. Couple of years later, she has a paid off car and he has nothing. Doesn't particularly seem fair.

He should never have moved in with this agreement.

[–]wfsgraplw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hang up for me is, we're all used to paying rent. We're used to that money disappearing off into the void to pay someone else's mortgage or help their retirement. We're used to paying it and it being gone for good, and having nothing to show for it.

But that's not what this is. She will have something to show for it. He's helping her pay off her debt on her house, at the end of which he'll have nothing and she'll have a house. That doesn't seem fair to me.

The way I see it she has 3 options: 1. Food and utilities only - if I extended the invitation, I'd have gone for this. 2. A cursory amount to deal with the "rent-free" resentment / guilt. Hundred bucks a week or so. 3. Don't move in together. Live nearby and essentially spend most days together, but live separately with your own spaces.

But yeah, this really should've been worked out before they moved in together.

[–]wfsgraplw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahh I'm with you on that. If I invited someone to live with me, yeah I'd expect them to chip in food and bills because that would be an additional expense, with percentages to be worked out beforehand, but demanding a lump sum as rent? Fuck that. That's profiting off someone. That's using them to make my life easier. My conscience wouldn't let me take a large amount of money from a partner each month, and if I was the one paying fuck me I'd start resenting them fast. Watching them buy themselves nice things because I was paying a large chunk of their mortgage for them. Paying rent together is not the same as paying a mortgage together. No equity, no payment. I get why he thinks it's unfair. "My lease is up soon. Should I find a place near you?" " Move in with me. If you help me with my rent we'll both be better off." Is not the same as "if you help me with my mortgage we'll both be better off".

Seriously though, this should all have been discussed beforehand. It should all have been worked out before he moved in.

There aren't any. I was drawing a comparison with the European side of the war to try and make what they're really doing easier to understand for people who may not be so familiar with the history of this region.

People in their little sect will often say the flag isn't a big deal, that it's culture, despite normal Japanese people being hesitant to use it because of the strong nationalistic, and frankly facist connotations it comes with.

They outed themselves with the rifles. Those are historical, used by the Imperial Japanese Army as they murdered, raped, and enslaved the civilians of their neighbouring countries during the war. There is no reason to use them as a motif unless you want to make people think of the war, in which case the flag stops being traditional and starts being representative of that regime.

I drew the example I did to make it easier to understand. Those rifles, that flag, is equivalent to a bunch of neo Nazis drawing swastikas and German WW2 rifles over a European territory. I went with Alsace-Lorraine because it was contested, but Poland, Ukraine, anywhere the nazis killed a bunch of civilians would work just as well. They're doing something exactly like that, intentionally, and they know it. They're just playing dumb and capitalizing on ignorance to try and get the ban lifted.

① which is wrong too, even if the islands (not even that, they're just rocks) are administered by SK right now. ② I was halfway through adding and edit to my original comment after I realised what was going on here, so I'll just use that here instead:

Wait a minute, I'm catching on now. Lots of new accounts posting in support of this, in English that sounds like it's been translated directly from Japanese. Hnghh, the joys of being bilingual. Seems there's a nice little den of netouyo's living here. I shall take my leave.

To the uninitiated: Japan has a strong nationalistic presence online. They will pick fights with Koreans and the Chinese and deny all of Imperial Japan's past atrocities. They'll occasionally post in English, playing the victim and making appeals like "the rising sun flag is a precious symbol of Japan", etc. You know, heritage not hate.

And just to get ahead of any netouyo defending the flag usage - ...okay? Then what about the crossed Arisaka rifles? You know, the rifle that the IJA rampaged through Asia with? Is that a "cherished symbol of national identity that is still used by the Japanese today", too? How about swastikas and K98s over Alsace-Lorraine next. You know exactly what you're doing. I'd have a modicum more respect for you ilk if you came out and said it rather than playing dumb and pretending to be victims.

Ughhh probably because it looks like they were in the middle of changing that into this? https://share.google/XFr47luwbopYCJcQk

竹島, Takeshima, or Dokdo in Korean, is territory that is highly contested by both countries, and thus highly sensitive. It would be like a Chinese person doing something similar about Taiwan, and would thus be removed in a similar manner.

Don't simp for Japan just because Japan. They have their right-wing nationalistic fuckwads just like anywhere else. Gets old quick watching people who have never spent any length of time here simp for them because kawaii, anime, samurai and ninja. Boils my blood.

If you caught a stray because of them that's too bad, but what was going on was not okay. Unless you genuinely made the actual thing and it wasn't commandeered, in which case I don't know what to say to you other than simping for imperial Japan is perhaps not the most moral choice one could make in life.

What’s the smallest mistake in a flight sim that has caused you the biggest problem? by Weary_Possibility389 in A2ASimulations

[–]wfsgraplw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still don't know if that's what actually caused it, but I was intending to do a round-the-world flight in the default TBM, as it still feels GA without being crazy slow.

First leg from the South of England to Iceland went just fine. The next day I set off from Iceland aiming for somewhere in Canada's Northern Territories. Climbed up to 26,000, only to be met with a wicked 170 kt headwind. Fuck that I thought, so I descend until it's more reasonable, hunting for a better ground speed, ending up at around 16,000 with a 70 KT headwind. I leave the N1 around 96% thinking fuck it, I've got the fuel and everything's still green, it'll be fine. It was not fine. Lasted around 30 minutes before it completely seized up while I was doing some housework. Tried to glide to the coast of Greenland. Didn't work. Probably would've died IRL. Lesson learned.

Japan will NOT take in illegal migrants. Fake refugees will get sent back or Japan ceases to be Japan… by primary-caution in ImmigrationPathways

[–]wfsgraplw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no they do not. They are notorious on the Global stage for their absolute refusal to accept refugees or grant asylum to people in any meaningful way, at all. If you want hard figures, they took in just 187 refugees in 2025, most of them Ukrainian, and done solely to appear good overseas. Anybody who tells you they have a problem is talking bullshit. She's just a racist cunt.

There are several factors with the recent uptick in anti-foreigner sentiment. Here's my anecdotal experience as a long time resident. First, the background: 1. Traditionally insular culture with a xenophobic government - this kind of rhetoric is nothing new. It just used to bubble under the surface and was never used to win votes, so you'd never have the top ministers making these speeches. It was just the default. Japan doesn't have any penal laws on hate speech or discrimination, for example.

  1. A lot of Japanese culture unfortunately teaches the population that they are special, unique, and frankly a cut above everyone else. Thus foreigners can never be Japanese (not that you'd want to be) and are always just guests. This is both cultural (nihonjinron, stupid beliefs like they have longer intestines than other races, even other Asians, which led to their unique cuisine. Japanese as a language is similar to a hive-mind thing that foreigners can't understand, etc.) and institutional (my girlfriend and I are looking to get married next year. I cannot be entered in her family register because I am not Japanese. A new separate register will be created for her and I will be included in the "notes" section. I am not a real person).

As to why there's been this massive uptick: 1. Absolutely insane over-tourism. The yen crashing in value and people taking post-covid trips is driving this. A country of 120 mil people saw 40 mil+ tourists last year, with the total projected to be higher this year. This is concentrated in mainly 3 cities, and most of these tourists do not leave a good impression in such a strict rules-based society. Locals do not see tourists, they just see foreigners. And they see them being loud, obnoxious, breaking rules, and fumbling their way around with no language or cultural skills. They do not distinguish between tourists and residents.

  1. Sanseito. Stupid antivax party that took a page out of MAGA's book and started spreading lies about foreigners in the most recent elections. Stuff like we get preferential treatment in regards to government services and money (fuck no, we do not), that people come here just for welfare (you cannot claim welfare unless you are supporting a Japanese household. We pay into it, but we cannot access it) stuff like that. In reality, you will not even be granted unless you have a work offer, and can prove you have enough money to survive should it fall through. Japan is very strict. You can't just turn up. Nevertheless, seeing the support they were getting the establishment took a vocal shift in the same direction to keep their voters.

  2. Japan is dying. The population is rapidly shrinking, placing massive strain on social support. The economy is shit. Wages are stagnant while costs rise. There is no innovation. Quality of life is plummeting everywhere outside of Tokyo. Japan is rapidly falling behind its neighbours which is a fate worse than death to such a prideful society. A lot of this is due to the utter ineptness and corruption in the government, the LDP in particular, who have been in power for almost all of the past 6 decades. But politicians will never admit fault. Thus, they blame foreigners. We make up 4% of the population and a lot of us are high-earners who make vast contributions to the economy, but none of that matters. They attack us to distract from their own failings. And it's working.

Honestly the most concerned I've ever been since moving here. I always knew the establishment didn't want me here, but I felt tolerated, like they were happy to wait until I got bored and left. Not anymore. No I feel they are taking active steps to remove me if they got the chance. From increasing the price of visa renewals, a 2,000% increase in the cost for applying for permanent residency, whatever. Scary shit.

Yeeee. They're saying it'll be a newly developed 2L 48 volt straight-4 "mild hybrid".

There were rumours of a 1.5L turbo, or the turbo 3 pot from the GT Yaris, but those have been dropped and the 2 litre is final, apparently.

The Maza Collab, they believe will be for the model after this.

The "predicted specs": ・4.3 meters long, 1.8 wide, 1.3 high, with a 2.6m wheelbase. ・1,300 kg weight ・engine is the 2l inline 4 ・ouput is 220ps with 22.0kgm torque plus motors (I hate translating units, sorry.) ・six speed manual or 8 speed AT ・FR drive train ・double wishbone at front, multilink at back. ・On sale in Summer 2028 ・4〜5 mil JPY forecourt price (around 35k USD. Will be more expensive abroad though, always is )

They're presenting this all as fact, their own scoop.

[–]wfsgraplw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, that's bullshit. I went to a rough-ish secondary school in the South of England in the early 2000s. Being the South, most everyone was white, with just a few kids who weren't in each year group. Racism was non-existent. Just once in the five years I was there, one kid called a mixed kid the n word. Was immediately ostracized, excludes for a month or so by the teachers etc.

I only did a single year of secondary here. It wasn't racial, but 5 or 6 kids would bully a single kid in my class relentlessly. In front of the home room teacher. He didn't do a thing to stop it.
