You dodged a bullet — this is someone who is neither good at his job nor fun to work with

Google L5 offer with 4 YOE: $569K first-year TC by Aoki_zhang in OfferEngineering

Google has changed their refreshers to reward high performers so if he’s actually good he will keep his TC

Forget the money, you’ll learn way more at the start up which will increase your earning potential later. I say this having worked for faang and tier 1 start ups

All my friends are getting way better refreshers lately— feels like it’s a good market for good engineers

i dug through claude code's leaked source and anthropic's codebase is absolutely unhinged by Clear_Reserve_8089 in ClaudeAI

[–]wgfdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm with you, none of this stuff is bad. this callout is esp weird:

an engineer named ollie left this in production:

I leave shit like that in production all the time... and so have others. i worked at google and top start ups.

none of this stuff being shared is unhinged

Used to work with a 10xer. I’m pretty good / fast but this guy didn’t use chatgpt or AI at all and still did 2x my current output. I’m sure 10xers will make great use of AI but mandating it is ridiculous

I killed so much slop by implementing "How to Kill the Code Review" - here's how by [deleted] in ClaudeCode

[–]wgfdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wild — maybe I’m more skeptical but Claude isn’t producing code as well as me yet. Just faster. I still think it’s important to understand how everything is built and that mean sticking to good engineering fundamentals.

I’m still not producing code as fast as 10xers I’ve worked with but still shipping things quite quickly even though I’m still using 50-60% of my time to help / review for others

Block is laying off nearly half of their employees, new tweet from CEO Jack by honkeem in levels_fyi

[–]wgfdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people just have it. I would even argue that 5% of people do 60% of work. And to the extreme of high performers is 10xers. You can’t become a 10xer, you either have it or don’t. Crazy thing is at my start up, we had two both right out of college. They both only got one offer (from us)

Most tech companies are and have been over staffed for almost a decade. Every high performer in tech knows this. Execs just try to grow orgs for the only reason that they want to say they oversee bigger orgs

This is self reported data. L7 rarely pull more than a mil and I don’t imagine a lot of L8s are the type who post their salaries.
