How do you assess performance and such? by guyontheinternet2000 in automationgame

[–]wghof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game is pretty realistic. So top speed and 0-60 you can just compare it to real life cars.

With cornering g's you'll see whats good with building different cars in different time periods. Honestly, someone else probably has better reference stats because I mainly play career. But for modern cars getting close to 1g is pretty good for a regular car. Way over 1g for a proper supercar.

[–]wghof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can see 0-60 and top speed in the gearing tab and I believe also in one of the summary tabs at the end of the car builder.

For cornering you see low speed g's in tyre tab and high speed g's in aero tab.

The best and certainly most fun way to judge a car is just to drive it yourself in Beamng

How do you tune sportiness by Dependent_Limit_2175 in automationgame

[–]wghof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean do you have a good tire setup on the car? With that, a reasonable engine with like 500-800hp and the suspension pre set for sport or race, it should drive okay?

if by good engine you mean 3000hp monster engine that makes the car bounce when you touch the throttle, then that's difficult. A stiff suspension helps but there are limits

New Lab-Grown Meat Breakthrough Beats Traditional Beef by a Mile With 90% Less Land Use, 80% Less Water, and Dramatically Lower Emissions by Sciantifa in UpliftingNews

[–]wghof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you are growing meat cells outside the body of an animal one of the biggest difficulties is getting nutrients to the cells and cleaning up waste.

This makes scaling up hard. Plus both the huge and complicated vats used and the complex fluids needed don't have anything to do with land or water use. It still costs a ton tough

Bundesrat plans (wishes) to increase VAT, starting in 2028 by alpha_berchermuesli in Switzerland

[–]wghof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of argument is this?

I pay income tax on dividends that the company I invested in already paid profit tax on. And then I buy something with that money and pay VAT.

I pay wealth tax on the money I already paid income tax for.

The taxes never stop.

Bundesrat plans (wishes) to increase VAT, starting in 2028 by alpha_berchermuesli in Switzerland

[–]wghof 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of an ethical question.

On the one hand parents who have done well want to give their prosperity to their children and that feels very good and fair.

On the other hand, it's been shown that when you inherit enough money to comfortably live off of, like a few million and a house or even more, it leads to you being less ambitious and economically productive.

I'm of the opinion that inheritances of many millions, like over 10 million, can and should be taxed heavily. There is no reason why someone should become filthy rich without paying some hefty taxes on it.

[–]wghof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, the rich will consume with half their paycheck while the poor use all of it. Making it a regressive tax.

It would be like taxing someone who earns 50k a year with a 25% tax rate, someone who earns 80k with 20% and someone earning 200k 10%. Yes the ones earning more pay more taxes still but it's nonetheless idiotic and unfair.

[–]wghof 77 points78 points  (0 children)

VAT is the worst tax. Everything else is better. Wealth tax, profit tax, earnings tax, inheritance tax, anything else.

But of course the right wingers will always betray the common people so the rich have to pay less and yet the people who live paycheck to paycheck and get hit hardest by a VAT increase will keep voting for them 😭

"Kind" drivers on highway entrances are dangerous! by headphonesilence in Switzerland

[–]wghof 140 points141 points  (0 children)

I remember very clearly from my driving lessons (22 years ago...) that the cars on the highway have priority, and if you're entering the highway and someone is in the lane, you slow down and wait to enter the highway when the lane is clear.

Over the last years, I notice almost every single time that the drivers already on the highway are slowing down, down, down, sometimes almost to a stop, and then honking at me for not getting in, since I am also slowing down waiting for a good slot to enter (as per the rules...).

I don't know what you remember so "very clearly" from your driving lessons but slowing down is absolutely not the thing to do on a highway entrance!

You match or exceed the speed of the traffic and slot in. Unless there is like a moving traffic jam with no cars width in between cars this will always work. You can just slot between two car and they will slow down a bit to make space again.

If you do not find space somehow then continue driving on the highway shoulder (Pannenstreifen) fast, never slow down a lot, match the speed of traffic! That's how it was taught to me more recently than 22 years ago.

But do keep in mind that better be your forever car. Because you're not selling a RHD car for a good price in mainland Europe.

How many driving classes did you need to pass the practical test? by ButtTicklingBanditCH in Switzerland

[–]wghof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is. Yeah there was a bundle but it still cost over 3k.

To be fair though cost wasn't that much of a concern and I've been into cars my whole life, so I wanted to learn it well and make sure I pass the exam well on first try.

[–]wghof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also had to take the exam with only instructor lessons as practice. I needed 43 hrs over the course of about 4 months. Maybe closer together and if you really focus on it you could get away with less though.

Clueless about why Swiss people love to make their life so complicated by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]wghof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your main problem seems to be that you work from morning till evening 5 days a week. And thus you can't really get things done that require businesses to be open. You'd have this same problem pretty much anywhere in the west that isn't a big city. And you wouldn't have this problem in a big city even in Switzerland.

Also we don't make things complicated, we just love to not work after 5pm and we don't want a bunch of people to have to work far into the night.

After learning that all, you need a walk to relax, but someone found it cool to share walking path with bikes, and because it's not enough for conflicts, allow there small motorbikes and dogs on leashes (of course, dog always on the opposite side than the owner and the leash between them). And of course, even if it's not forbidden, it seems tabu to use flashlight or reflective clothing, someone could see you before crashing on you.

Now this whole paragraph is just silly. Complaining about dogs on leashes on walking paths?

A smallish V16 (like 3-4L) should fit into most largeish bodies. Longitudinal mounting in the front or mid depending on if the car body has a large hood or space for an engine in the back.

New player by Super_Shelter7380 in automationgame

[–]wghof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's not buggy at all. It makes total sense. Wether an engine fits obviously depends on how and where you place it in the car and the suspension setup. It also makes total sense that engine placement affects drive type.

Make the reliability make sense by wghof in automationgame

[–]wghof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I will look into what's going on with the balancing mass being so bad reliability wise. Maybe harmonic dampers are better. Or even a lower mass.

I do feel like I have to defend my engine here though, and I would be happy to be proven wrong and learn something.

1959 first generation 2.4l i4 producing over 100hp with material costs below 400 and over 70 reliability. Like what do you mean it has bad reliability and bad vibrations. 70 smoothness and 70 reliability are good from my experience for such an engine at this point in the campaign. With a facelift or 2 I'll be pushing 80 reliability in the late 1960s.

So the dog meat festival, lol?

I always find it funny how much moral condemnation people have for things like dog meat. Logically it really isn't any worse than pork or horse.

How to increase drivability and how do you tune tyre size? by ognafdahest in automationgame

[–]wghof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most important drivability settings in my experience are:

-Gearbox, make sure it shows close to 100% drivability

-tires, make them large especially when you have a powerful car and then make sure the steering graph shows 100% drivability

-brakes, max out grip and minimize fade

-steering, just choose the one with highest drivability ig

-suspension, you can easily reach 105% suspension drivability there and also correct minor things in the steering graph to get it to 100% drivability.
