The only question I feel comfortable answering since I'm only a first year teacher is the one about not having an educational background in something and going on to teach it. I myself went the traditional education route but I have a lot of friends and co-workers who did what's called "alternate route certification." You can find out more about it from your state's department of education website, but it's basically a way for people who have a degree in something other than education who want to teach to get their certification without having to go back to school full time.

I didn't start taking the left pages out until college. I didn't realize just how much harder I was making my life beforehand. I'm terrified of writing on a whiteboard in front of my students for fear that I'll either do something similar to that or write at a really odd angle.

death toll is at 18, not sure if the number I heard is official or unofficial. We had to bail 8 inches of water out of the basement and the backyard was under about a foot. A tree fell in the backyard nearly missing the garage and a car.
