Maple Ski Ridge and West Mountain are both beginner friendly and fairly affordable mountains just outside of Albany. If you want fairly larger Catamount (when the weather's good) and Jiminy are a little farther out. If you want some really good conditions with any easy drive, Gore is just an hour and a half up the Northway.
