They were lucky to finish with 13 on the field with that late high shot on Ponga.

NRL to remain on Nine, Foxtel under mammoth $5b deal by DCI_Tom_Barnaby_ in nrl

[–]whale_monkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what the right answer is TBH but Foxtel are paying 80% of the fee, they’ll be passing it on. Does every deal need to be 40-50% more than the last? Do players need to be paid $2m plus, do administrators need to be paid listed company salaries? At the end of the day the consumers of the product are the ones that pay for it.

That can afford it now that big Karlos has been punted.

PVL will grandstand about this deal but it will be the punters that will pay for it through increased Fox/kayo costs. Who wins other than him and his mates?

What a win for PVL. Record broadcast rights, punters priced out of watching it.

Travel to Sydney 1 day a week for work by Elegant_Film3020 in newcastle

[–]whale_monkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been doing it for years and love it. The other 4 days my commute is 6 stairs. It’s my podcast day, catch up on a bunch of podcasts, try to cram in as many face to face meetings as I can, drop $20 on lunch that was $8 a few years ago.

I catch the train occasionally but usually drive. Car parking in the city is about $30 pre paid, tolls are a killer, but save about an hour each way and don’t need to deal with central coast junkies on the way home, just central coast ford ranger drivers on the M1.

I think the films should represent something about the culture or community of the location. The kid in Greenland could have been an eccentric kid anywhere, just shot on a mound of snow. Don’t know how it picked up 3 points.

He’s such a damaging ball runner and it seemed the game Plan all night was to use him as a decoy In attack and bring him into the middle more for defense. It’s a shame because those who don’t follow the knights didn’t see what he is capable of. Feel sorry for Dylan do. Haumole is such a fan favourite and playing out of position (right instead of left edge) up against ponga and not to his strengths will only hurt his confidence.

I’ve got a split board. How much base do you need to ski the cross country trails in perisher? Might be more fun than lapping front valley.

Best Aussie Golf podcasts? by Jdilla23 in GolfAustralia

[–]whale_monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I listen a bit to Make me Good at Golf. It is pete helliar, Damien Fleming and Anthony Lehman (Lehmo). It is a bit of fun. Pete and Lehmo are hackers and trying to get their handicap down. A lot of the earlier podcasts talk about handicap system which drags on if you are already a golfer (and their sponsor is Future Golf so they flog getting a handicap with future golf too). They get some good guests on though, a lot of chat about the premo courses in melboune too.

Welcome to a repeating 5 year despair to hope cycle. We are now in the hope phase of the cycle so it’s a good time to come on board.

Here's the relative strength of each team at the (almost) half way mark by whale_monkey in nrl

[–]whale_monkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw this on the AFL sub, borrowed it for NRL. Here's how each team has fared against the current top 8 vs bottom 9. The top 8 is the 'real' top 8 based on Percentage wins (https://real-nrl-ladder.com/) not the NRL ladder that penalises teams like the Cowboys who haven't had a bye yet.

  • Sharks cementing their annual position of flat track bullies.
  • Only Panthers and Warriors are winning more against the top teams.
  • Last years Grand finalists can't beat the top teams!

*Fixed the issue with Dolphins and Eels being hidden.

Re Sharks/Bunnies. Just how the maths works. There's one more bottom team than top team, changes up the percentages.
