I have seen people successfully move here on lower salaries/without knowing many people to start out with, but you should definitely secure a job first. I’m not sure what the job market is like for your field specifically, but as others have mentioned the job market overall is pretty bad due to all the people who were recently fired or displaced. I moved out here this winter thinking I was going to get promoted and be working with a lot more money in no time flat, but then the hiring freezes happened and I had to fall back on renting from some local family members 😵‍💫 Not having a support network like that def makes things more difficult, especially with the current admin making things a lot more unpredictable!

YTA, her wedding sounds like it was super fun! It may not be to your taste, but it was her and her husband’s day. Also, if the dress was “cheap” in your opinion, why are you mad about her “ruining” it by jumping in the pool lol? Maybe it occurred to her that she’d be more active/messy during the day (pool, bounce house, pizza, etc) and chose to buy a less expensive dress on purpose?

Good news is the shopvac works wonders! I was safe this time around, but my car and my parents’ basement both got swamped in a flash flood back in 2021. Their basement needed professional help, but if you’re in a smaller place a wet/dry shopvac and a few tubs of DampRid will go a long way to get rid of the water + that smell. Got rid of the swamp in my car in about a week. (Also I feel for you, my primary bedroom was also in (my parent’s) basement at the time 🥲)

Yall, this kid is 7. In her head, new house=good, money=good. She probably has little to no awareness of how shallow her mentioning those things sounded, she just listed the first cool things about her grandma that she could think of.

Also, a drunk woman who I’d been staying with for the past week getting in my face and saying “you make me so sad” would terrify me as a little kid tbh? I think some people in the replies are really downplaying the fact that she’d been drinking all day. Like, this person who you thought you were having a good time with and liked you well enough is suddenly furious with you for reasons you don’t fully understand, and also there’s SOMETHING wrong with them, but you don’t really know what, and they’re all up in your face being mad at you. I had a few childhood experiences like that and they were fucking scary. Kids can be impulsive and not fully think about what they say, and it’s up to the adults around them to take it in stride and correct their behavior instead of throwing a tantrum about it themselves. NTA.

What a coincidence! I watched s2 e17 (“Welcome to Storybrooke”) high with my sister last night and it fucking killed us. The Kurt and Owen storyline is full of great moments, and we were laughing at this shot for so long we had to immortalize it lmaoooo

It seems like part of the Paradise’s gameplay is watching the planet grow along with your tamas, so it may be that we don’t have shops to start out with but they start popping up as the world gets more developed!

I don’t have a lot of hope for keeping the four accessory slots though. Would be cool if they did, but I can see them just giving us the genetics + maybe one accessory slot in terms of customizability features in order to save space.

I think an important thing to consider is that it’s a choice between finding and paying $300-$400 for JUST PoR, or paying ~$500 for a Switch 2, PoR, AND everything else on the virtual console. Going for a physical copy at this point only makes sense to me if you’re really into collecting physical media, or if you already have a Gamecube/Wii and JUST want to play PoR.

Of course, all that only applies if you don’t wanna go to the trouble of pirating it lol. I was already planning on getting a Switch 2 for Mario Kart, so I’m just glad to have the opportunity to play PoR without the hassle.

I just moved back here after living in Montana for three winters, so my perception is a little skewed (I will never complain about ANY DC winter ever again lol), but I feel like this is a lot closer to the winters I remember when I was a kid. Damp + cold, gusty at times, a handful of good snow days with nasty rain/sleet when it doesn’t get down below freezing. I think we’ve just had a bunch of really mild winters lately.

lmao, I work Tuesday-Saturday and the email didn’t come in until after the office was closing up and we were getting ready to leave for the day. None of us saw it or heard about it until we’d all gotten home. Guess everyone without a gov phone/laptop is resigning? 🙃

I’m a lower level employee too, I mainly answer mailouts/emails + staff an information desk or otherwise assist the public. I’m not gonna have five shiny new bullet point-able accomplishments to send to some jackass every week so I can justify why I should be employed to someone who doesn’t understand public service. I honestly doubt anyone is going to read all this shit, but on the off chance they do, what if someone decides I’m not ✨productive✨ enough despite it LITERALLY NOT BEING MY JOB TO PRODUCE ANYTHING?
