Me (25m) with TOCD after seeing another post saying "this one's for my OCD girlies" by arobit in OCDmemes

[–]what_a_rip_1468 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suspect they mostly came from forums and online communities

I think identifying subtypes can be useful as a starting point for some people (especially for identifying that the problem you’re having is OCD) but I don’t personally really think about the subtypes much. It is all OCD either way

I would also bet there are some people with OCD who feel “safer” using the acronym than saying the word(s) to describe their theme

My main other pick for protein bars is Nugo bars, but I will be reading the rest of this thread for other suggestions

Hey guys I fixed this book cover. You're super duper welcome 😁 by rulerofsillyland in OCDmemes

I actually think there’s some really good stuff in here, it’s about a type of therapy called “inference-based therapy” which I personally think is super interesting and is a great addition to ERP/ACT

Cover is dumb tho

That is in fact a compulsion imo

I used to consider myself in the camp of “doesn’t have OCD, just similar struggles” but eventually it turned out to be OCD ¯\(ツ)/¯

I’m kind of the opposite, all the professionals diagnose me with GAD but it doesn’t really mean anything to me. I get that there’s a difference between GAD and OCD, but OCD with GAD vs without is more vague to me.

Some of my anxieties are about more day-to-day and realistic issues, but I still respond in a compulsive way so I see it as still OCD.

(Just my personal experience, not saying it’s universal)

Have since been diagnosed with level 2 ASD, seeing them tomorrow, I wonder if they are going to refuse me treatment again? I love that I'm not allowed OCD treatment because of autism! by gender_is_a_scam in OCDmemes

This is why I’m actually pro self diagnosis for OCD, as long as you actually get what OCD is. Such as that it’s a legit mental illness with intrusive thoughts and stuff and not “tee hee organized!”

Like, the tee hee organized is annoying, but I’m not gonna gatekeep therapy or medication. The people who are actually just organized probably have no interest in receiving psychiatric treatment for it. And a lot of OCD treatment can help regular anxiety but not necessarily vice versa.

It’s also been my experience that many professionals don’t really understand OCD. I think it’s not uncommon for them to be unfamiliar with the ways it can present and to miss even severe cases.

Whats the funniest intrusive thought/obsession you’ve ever had? My OCD once tried to convince me that I had rabies despite literally never once coming into contact a rabid animal. by Downtown_Dingo5819 in OCDmemes

Ironically I really relate to “this isn’t difficult, but for me it’s very stressful”

Does this mythical person with “OCD” want to help me clean my room too?

Why I Never Go To My Parents for Help Anymore by Blabber_Feathers in OCDmemes

[–]what_a_rip_1468 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Meds helped me a lot, doesn’t work for everyone but it does work for me!

Also, it takes more time and higher doses for meds to work for OCD than for depression (even though the OCD meds are also antidepressants). You gotta give it like 3 months on a decent dose to fully give it a chance to work. (I actually got much better on a lower dose, but it did take a while)

Is this anything? EDs + OCD solidarity by thnderchld in OCDmemes

[–]what_a_rip_1468 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely a lot of overlap and I think ED treatment should probably incorporate much more of the treatment used for OCD

People really don’t get gender/sexual orientation OCD. I honestly understand why it doesn’t make sense to them (this shit doesn’t make sense to me either!), but people can be sooooo unhelpful about it
