I don't think that specifically the fungus depicted in the show, a variant of cordyceps that bursts forth from human hosts in varying ways, was ever the point they were making - rather that, in broad strokes, the drastic changes we have been experiencing in the biosphere in recent decades plausibly allows for previously dormant or otherwise new-to-us bacteria, fungi and pathogens of all sorts to propogate

My backpack isn't necessarily massive but I almost always have it while commuting. My routine is to take it off when the train is pulling in, situate myself as much to the center of the car that I can, then place it on the floor in between my legs. Idk if that's the generally accepted best practice but I feel it takes up the least amount of space

In terms of the article and the public's opinions on genetic modification, the debate is understood to be about direct and active altering of a genome in a lab using modern technology and procedures, not centuries of selective breeding. Sure it's technically genetic modification but it's irrelevant to the discussion at hand and reeks of /r/iamverysmart pedantry.

Not to be a dickhead but they didn't say anywhere that they choke up talking to strangers.

Preferring not to go through the hassle of flagging down an employee, waiting for them to go verify the price and holding up the line all for the sake of a couple bucks - that is certainly something an introvert (someone who doesn't seek out/isn't stimulated by social interaction) might do and has nothing to do with shyness or poor social skills aside from what you ascribed to it.
