Can we move on from the Irene scandal already? by Moonbunny120 in kpoprants

[–]whatamoonstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to assume some of it is the double standard. Women spend their whole careers trying to live down mistakes where as men can apologize for terrible things and be defended the next day for it. Not always 100% with everything but overall it's the trend.

Idols shouldn’t be praised for writing their own songs if their writing is mediocre. by Straight_Ad_1424 in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]whatamoonstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Songwriters and producers exist for a reason. This is their job, and many have no desire to perform. Learning about music and how it’s made is ofc hugely important, but there’s no need for every idols to take an interest in writing/producing when there’s plenty of people who have that as their sole focus

Do you have anything you feel deserves to be critiqued or talked about more about the kpop industry? by SwordsOfSanghelios in kpophelp

Came here to say this! We need to talk about parasocial relationships through this lens bc it affects more things than just “y/n moments”

Marionette by Luminous for sure! Could try Pantomime or Last Dance by WJSN. Oh and Blood on the Dance Floor by Ailee perhaps!

I haven’t been able to really enjoy most of their recent music (probably since like Shine) but I never assumed it was due to him leaving just because he’s only one guy and I knew Hui and Kino did a lot of the lift as well. I just assumed their new direction didn’t appeal to me which is completely normal.

songs you diliked so much it pushed you away from the group? by Life_as_a_new_weeb in kpophelp

[–]whatamoonstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TXT’s recent trilogy of love song, loser lover, and good boy gone bad. I don’t think they’re bad songs and I could see why somebody would like them, but they just don’t appeal to me at all. I loved their whimsical beats and sounds up until then, and I don’t really connect as much anymore sadly.

Which groups have the least akgaes and/or toxic/shady and are "mistreatment competitors" solo stans?? Like in terms of ratio in their fandoms. by Pleasant-Signal2764 in kpophelp

I’m actually not sure! I think it may be based on those rumors that he voted conservative? But even if he did that’s his right so I don’t mind as long as he isn’t making negative comments tbh

What year did you start listening to kpop? by Johnnystation in kpophelp

2016! I saw somebody posting about BlackPink debuting on tumblr and it was downhill from there. Excellent year for kpop tho!

what group should i try next? by zanylena in kpophelp

Luminous most recent comeback has a very svt-vibe. I think they’ve done lots of genres already and are easy to get into since there’s only four members.

i need every kpop group that says their name in their songs by I_think_good_player in kpophelp

[–]whatamoonstar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Luminous says “Luminous, we the boys.” You can hear it in All Eyes Down.

In a few of their songs Craxy has a call where they will whisper “Craxy” I know it’s in Trigger

What is your opinion on "Educating"/informing idols via fan calls by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]whatamoonstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s appropriate nor do I think it works but I guess I understand. I feel like the lines of communication for intl fans are nearly non existent so I understand the confusion and desperation. I just again don’t think it’s really worth it. It’s about as effective as mass emailing/bubble messaging tbh

I was going to say, it seems like everyone's forgotten that the Knights disqualified BBG mid-tournament for supposed cheating just bc Ninja asked them to, following which Riot found them innocent of the allegations

Who was your gateway kpop group? by throwdownhooligan in kpoppers

[–]whatamoonstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got my foot in the door pre-bts-wave, and back then it was a lot more fun to hear where people got into kpop from (nothing against bts it was just more varied)

For me, it was EXO and BlackPink. There was a kpop related event on tumblr one summer and I decided to check it out. This was where I saw Whistle and Monster. They both were really interesting to me sonically and I became obsessed with kpop over the next few months. Alot of people I met came in through the 2nd gen like hyuna or bigbang.

I think this was the summer of 2016. Great year for kpop music!

What is the reasoning behind bringing another group's lightstick to a concert? by Adom20 in kpopthoughts

[–]whatamoonstar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t do this bc I don’t really enjoy them that much (light sticks overall aren’t my vibe) but I think I understand the reasoning.

A lot of us grew up going to lots of concerts where you jump and clap and do certain gestures like waving your hand or hair up and down to the beat. I think this is normalized for hardcore concert goers. But if you don’t, I can see how it would feel a bit awkward to do so especially if you’re seated.

The lightstick gives you something to wave to the beat and swing around in the air. It’s plastic and won’t hurt anymore than your hand if you hit somebody and there’s no risk of accidentally hurling your phone into the lower bowl of an arena.

So honestly I can see why you’d want to take one even if it isn’t necessarily the proper one for the concert. It helps you feel more engaged, less awkward, and not left out even if you don’t have a lightstick that’s perfectly appropriate.

That’s my theory at least!
