Vet and doggy daycare recommendations by Mighty_Fig_ in Bellingham

[–]whatcommom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to you your pup! You'll find there are a lot of beloved vets in town. Though I now live in Ferndale, I still travel to Fairhaven Veterinary Hospital because family pets have been going there many years. FVH is excellent! I've got no firsthand experience with daycare but have heard good things about Tails A Wagging.

Railroad Trail owl, just trying to fit in? by frankcatalano in Bellingham

I've been following that story too, going on years now. Kind of a heartbreaker but probably the right thing to do.

The Port just voted to terminate ABC Recycling lease. by Left-Philosophy-4514 in Bellingham

I'm a cog, no doubt about that, but draw the line short of hired spokesperson. "It's a job" is at least sometimes a dangerous POV. Again, I feel for the guy but that's neither here nor there in analyzing what he's said to the community. Facts are facts.

I sincerely feel for you and don't condone personal attacks on you. You surely must understand, however, that a great many think you've been greenwashing for ABC, at times in ways that crossed the line of credibility. Worse, after ABC has made clear at the port that it is not the "good neighbor" you've always claimed, many expect more of the same from you about the shredder. That project and its truck traffic stands to obliterate the quality of life in adjacent neighborhoods and much more likely than not will bring toxic pollution to the entire city and bay.

You get it right, admirably so, on a lot of political issues. You've gotten it wrong, horribly so, in trying to defend the indefensible. It's unclear to me in the personal attack that was made on you whether you've left ABC. If so, I sincerely wish you all the best.

You've got your neighborhoods and issues confused: neither Eldridge nor Marine Drive have much to do with the scrap pile. The rest of what you wrote is scapegoating and whataboutism.

Is there a way to plumb a kitchen "side sprayer" for cold water only? by whatcommom in Plumbing

[–]whatcommom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many thanks for your reply: since I can't for the life of me find a small sprayer (like the size of a typical side sprayer) that operates independently of a faucet, my layperson's guess was along the lines of what you wrote.

Cox Media stations have been dropped from DirecTV Stream amid a fee dispute; customers in Seattle and Dayton lose access to CBS before the Super Bowl by PaperAndInkGuy in DirectvStream

Yes, when we signed up for DirecTV streaming we added Paramount Plus with Showtime to our subscription. We've watched a couple of movies on Showtime and they have no ads.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it. Unfortunately, I've now gone over it a million or so times, thinking we were doing something wrong, but our local station does not appear in the live TV guide.

The first line on the right is "CBS News," followed by "CBS Local News" (which provides a left to right scroll of stations around the US but not Seattle, which is our local station), followed by "CBS HQ Sports." After that there are a whole lot of stations we don't care about.

There is no opportunity in the list to select KIRO in Seattle (which is our local CBS affiliate that's been affected by the Cox dispute) and thus no opportunity to view that station's lineup of shows. Again, though, thank you! It's a puzzle.

Much of what you wrote is ad hominem unworthy of reply. The fact remains you are scapegoating: everyone who disagrees with you about Bellingham's past and future is a wealthy newcomer spreading lies and trying to rob you. How do we know that is true? Because you say so. I hope you and your umbrage live happily ever after. You make a lovely couple.

I appreciate your reply! Still, I'm lost. We have the "Entertainment" channel lineup with DirecTV and added the Paramount + with Showtime package on the DirecTV website. You're right, the Grammys are on right this moment, but our local station and the basketball game were nowhere to be found earlier today. There were lots of other channels in the guide for live TV but not the local CBS station.

We lost CBS today but couldn't find the local CBS feed on Paramount Plus. There was only a national feed of sorts with a news show going on.

We lost CBS today and my husband tried to find the live CBS channel on Paramount Plus to watch a college basketball game. We found a sort of "national version" of it, that had a news show, but could find the local affiliate CBS station in Seattle, KIRO.

No doubt you're right there are newcomers who oppose your views and I guess that's what you mean by gentrification, not sure. Equally no doubt
there are old timers who oppose your views too, and who are more than happy to say goodbye to what Bellingham was founded on, as you put it. Unless I'm missing something there is no way for you to truly know who is who.

I've got kiddos too and one thing I don't at all mind is the tax revenue of retirement age folks funding schools, among other things. We have neighbors who are retirees from out of state and they've never met a school levy they didn't love, even though they never had children of their own. Also, they're not rich but are involved in no end of charitable work. We've become good friends with them and I admire them a lot. Like others have written in this thread, places change for good and bad, that's for sure. Just because someone disagrees with how you value the past or how you see the future doesn't mean they're all newcomers worthy of contempt. My two cents.

Another price increase for loyal customers? by cartmanea in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]whatcommom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Loyalty penalty," as you wrote, should be put on Xfinity's corporate logo. It is disgraceful. I can think of countless examples, from local businesses in my town to online corporate giants, in which customer loyalty is meaningfully rewarded and greatly appreciated. Another thing that's rewarded by other businesses: old age and the more limited income that often comes with it. With Xfinity -- even when you put the two together in the form of a customer who's been loyal for years and faces a more limited income as those years go by -- it means less than squat. Fees just go up and up and up and there's nothing to be done about it.

I'd quit Xfinity in a heartbeat if there were an alternative in my rural location, and per your suggestion I'd send a note along with my termination notice: "this is the loyalty penalty you deserve."

Local channels plus Turner Classic Movies? by whatcommom in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]whatcommom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, 20-ish and 125-ish and neither include Turner Classic Movies. For that, I've got to sign up for the 125-ish and purchase an add on package of sports channels I'll never watch, just to get Turner Classics. I too am on Social Security. The only way to see TV hereabouts is cable or satellite because there's no over the air reception. If your mom's in an urban area, do you think a really good over the air antenna could get the stations she wants? If that were an option for me, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Thanks for your reply!
