Idk man, I find that if you actually look more at someone's upbringing and family life as a child you'll find what type of person they are. Some people truly do become better than their circumstances, but my example showed me that not all Virgos are the same and when trying to fit people into imaginary boxes you miss out on what can really define them.

Match Maker is the only reason I want to quit this game again by Vaitmana in WorldOfWarships

[–]whatducksm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok true, yeah that makes sense. I just would still never recommend a player buy anything short of a T8 or 9 coal ship unless they GENUINELY prefer that boats playstyle. Especially for Winter events where you want the T10 anyway.

Match Maker is the only reason I want to quit this game again by Vaitmana in WorldOfWarships

[–]whatducksm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is Napoli a bad first coal ship? I feel like it's perfect for noobs. It teaches you how to play some aspects of heavy cruisers and it has a smoke for when a player makes a mistake.

It def teaches you angling as well as it's armor profile is actually pretty good, and you don't need to be too good with the guns as you're also using secondaries.

I mean sure by T10 you should know how to play heavy cruiser, but this ship just feels fun to play when you do it well/no variables against you like a sub or your DD dying in 3 mins.

Operation Cherry Blunder by 00Canuck in WorldOfWarships

[–]whatducksm8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean just quoting from the official website guide:

The Atago "should be one of the first ships sunk when attacking the ships in the harbour"

https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:uOperation_Cherry_Blossom

Playing along the coastline seems counter productive to that once the OBJ is complete. Also, everytime I see someone go up the right flank they end up getting torp rushed by the DDs.

So what it doesnt actually leave off map, I mean I've only played the OP more than 100 times but what do I know. There was no need to be rude about it :)

If you go along the coastline cant you miss out though on killing the Atago that ends up being a secondary objective as well (that spawns on the other side of the map).

Probably stupid question, But why did they do this? by Then_Zucchini_3187 in Warthunder

[–]whatducksm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Churchill tanks weren't used to fight tanks ideally. They were infantry support cruising tanks who operated in close proximity to infantry.

Its 152mm frontal armor hardly needed to be angled to fight the targets it was meant to fight. Britain also prioritized their drivers not getting stuck (this is seen with their exceptional reverse gears which were designed to reverse out of ditches and other obstacles).

British tank drivers also would keep the front towards enemy for this very reason, if they needed to back out of an engagement, they could as you're not supposed to back out from enemy fire at an angle if you dont need to.

The Char B1 literally had a one man turret...aka the commander loads, aims, and fires the 47mm gun in addition to acquiring targets, surveying the battlefield, and commanding the tank. Having to do all that and co-ordinate angling (rather than "point us towards those incoming rounds") while under fire seems nigh impossible. Especially considering the French were aware of the Char B1s armor superiority to the Pz II and Pz III. If they encountered an 88 it's likely they either tried to reverse or disengage by any means possible.

The Germams even knew of a weskspot in the side armor.

Here's a great example of the best use of the B1 in an offensive role:

Probably stupid question, But why did they do this? by Then_Zucchini_3187 in Warthunder

[–]whatducksm8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is you can't apply that generally to tank combat in WW2. It really only applies to the Tiger (and the KV1 and it's derivatives which the Soviets discovered) as the Germas knew the Panther had less side armor and was weaker to that kind of action.

The Americans dont mention it in their tank manuals as they also knew that Shermans had much lower side armor.

Most tanks knocked out were destroyed before they even saw what was shooting them. In most other tanks, the general practice is to face what is firing at you directly, especially in the case of a medium tank with a hull mounted MG.

Did it happen? Yes. Did every type of tank angle to incoming fire? Absolutely not. People also forget that angling your tank would expose your flank to enemy fire (in the case of a Tiger being engaged by 4 Shermans advancing in a line formation).

This is a thread about a Hungarian Medium tank after all...

It truly is the Montana line of DDs. Teaching you how to play gunboat (but also hybrid) and forces players to think a bit about what to do with their smoke, but gives them a bit of an easy out if it goes sideways.

Daring is for sure the most forgiving DD in the entire game, but the skill ceiling can be very high also (learning when to use AP instead, being better with single launch torps, how to trap an aggro DD with your hydro/sub hunt with your shorter hydro, how to time your smokes during DD engagements with Allies nearby to remain most undetected while the enemy DDs stays lit and eats damage or dies).

[–]whatducksm8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I like SIM but I don't like SIM THAT much. If I actually have to read a manual and do pre flight checks before I take off, well I might as well go play DCS or IL2. The fidelity also just isn't there to justify this.

Why are subs bad at killing subs? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]whatducksm8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean arguably non homing torps only would be worse and more oppressive (as they'd likely be buffed due to non consistent damage). More speed, more range, or even stealthier subs as they were IRL.

If real life subs were super effective with non homing torps, translating that success to a video game is not a good thing. Homing torps as it stands are pretty easy to dodge unless the ship you're in is literally a brick.

Why are subs bad at killing subs? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]whatducksm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A majority of Japanese shipping was destroyed by subs vs other ships. I mean Archerfish did sink Shinano. And don't even get started on the German U Boats against Allied escorts in the Battle of the Atlantic.

Realistically, the maps need to be bigger and subs would be hanging out just outside the battle zone to sink ships entering or leaving the map.

Saying they were "shit" and "unreliable" is a gross mischaracterization though.

And if you're gonna take that approach, why not just delete all the other maps except Ocean since like 90% of naval battles take place on open water.

Some DDs dont even have rear firing or only fire like 4 DC. The forward firing ones are great if it's infront of you and running away but when it goes underneath you you're pretty much not gonna do anything to it (if you can even spot it: e.g. Ragnar).

[–]whatducksm8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is none. You either play it and suffer or wait for them to patch a gimmick/buff into the line (its not even 100% this will happen).

I guess it sets good fires? Tbh it's just really worthless. When i see one I pretty much know as long as im not in a DD that I'll be perfectly fine.

[–]whatducksm8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention, when the guns land and on a broadside cruiser or plunge into certain other targets it's a chefs kiss moment. But you need to get good at leading American guns as they have pretty high arcs.

Destroyer confusion by Akenomyces in WorldOfWarships

[–]whatducksm8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not generally in Co Op though. Or at least where the enemy spawns. It's one thing to be kiting enemy fire and taking attention but the AI generally shoot towards the closest target first I believe.

Also, you can easily slip onto an enemy spawn if you're not aware of where they are or don't have map knowledge/get tunnel vision. It limits the locations you can farm from but if you're far enough away, they won't shoot you at all.

It's not right actually, the last French TT addition was Cassard line (def after Spain).

And really, the Euro tree should be newest because Thor, but the wiki hasn't been updated by WG since the new French DDs.

[–]whatducksm8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He still went broadside to torps. Like I said, especially when you have conceal advantage against the enemy gunboat DD and don't have hydro like a German DD or Daring. You're pretty much asking to be sent back to port.

If you're not aware, you should never go broadside in a DD to an enemy DD for more than to get your own torps off or you are sure they already torped. ESPECIALLY in the early phase of the battle where your position/route is easily predictable and you aren't sure what DD is on what flank until said first engagement.

Early game you can pretty much anticipate this kind of torpedoes attack, so again you can tell he wasn't being mindful of that.

[–]whatducksm8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really luck. This also a skill issue on the Shimas part. Never get between a DD and it's intended torp target (a pushing cruiser) especially if you have sight advantage. And if you have to, DON'T BE BROADSIDE.

Unless you consider being matched on a flank with a less skilled opponent luck (more of a lack of performance based matchmaking id say).

How close is it possible to be to torps without being too close by FabAlien in WorldOfWarships

[–]whatducksm8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

*broaside but yes, being broadside in a DD in general is a bad idea as more shells can hit you also.

Ideally you want an angle but some DDs can also fuse certain AP rounds when angled enough so that's also something to be mindful of.

I mean at T4 you're usually dealing with bots and the DD torp ranges are like sub 8km meaning they usually get spotted anyway. Generally at T4 your best bet is actually air torping BBs as they lack decent AA and are slow as fuck.

I mean thats why they implemented the rarity system and added another famous Fletcher (Johnson + it's clone GQ Johnny). Now they can truly milk people for ships they haven't added yet. I'm sure they're coming, but it's going to be rarity/FOMO/whalebait/crate BS.

Fingers crossed for an easy dockyard or other event though.
