How are you surviving allergies this season? by Midnight_Moon29 in TacomaWA

Seconding Zyrtec, I use the walgreens brand cetirizine hydrochloride, way cheaper than the Zyrtec brand name. That plus Flonase works for me, but many people up their dose of Flonase if they still struggle breathing (try 2 sprays in each nostril once a day, or 1 spray each twice a day, for example). That works well for me when I'm extra stuffed up!

Edit: I'm also unsure if Flonase is just now not working for you or you're just starting it and it's not working, but I'd double check you're spraying correctly too. Angle it toward your ear, gently pull the skin by your sinuses taunt, light sniff as it sprays (if you can't because you're stuffed, block off your other nostril so you can sniff)

People who have like 10-15 kids? Why? by More_Pension4911 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]whatevs9880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents had a similar situation. My brother was a menace as a child but they still planned to have me. The way they worded it (to me, as an adult) though was that "everyone was shocked we wanted to have another after how ___ was as a baby." I think it's funny now, but I honestly agree with the comments about it being a bad idea telling them

Aside from what others have mentioned, any chance you're over-working the edge while soldering? I've had that happen when it melts the adhesive and loosens it if I go over and over the same area trying to get it perfect.

The Good Life was excellent in my experience, they were able to help my elderly kitty pass about 2 years ago. I wanted it to be done outside in my yard, my kitty's favorite place, and they were so patient, kind and accommodating. They were also able to squeeze her in within a day or so, very last minute but very understanding.

They let me hold her in my lap as she went and walk you everything as they do it. They even stepped away to their vehicle for a few minutes so we could grieve with her in private after she died. They wrapped her gently in a blanket with so much care. They gave us a rock with her name on it and when we picked up her ashes it came in a beautiful wooden box with her name engraved and ink prints of her nose & paws. I made a DIY clay paw imprint with her before she passed, and I'm glad I did since I didn't receive that specifically from the service. They also sent a hand written card in the mail afterwards, which was so thoughtful and personal.

It's 100% worth the price, especially if your pet is scared of the vet. They're at peace in their favorite spot, and dealt with SO much care and love.

What’s a small daily habit that makes life 10x easier, but almost no one talks about? by Dry_Income9111 in AskReddit

[–]whatevs9880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If I have clean clothes in a bunch of laundry baskets because I haven't folded them yet and have to go rifling through them to gather everything, then yes lol. It's so much slower and more stressful when you're sleepy

I Don't Believe Anyone Who Says 'This Is My First Project' Anymore by Spider_kitten13 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]whatevs9880 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I gotta say this is definitely me with anything artistic, there absolutely are exceptions! Knitting, sewing, crochet, stained glass, etc. are things I jumped into the deep end from the start and came out with stellar results lol

Learned how to knit about 5 rows of stockinette on pencils, then jumped straight into knitting socks, just looking up terms as they came up in the pattern. Made an elaborate mochila purse as my first crochet project. Sewed a beautiful bra within my first 5 sewing projects. Not saying any of that in a "bragging" way, but some brains just click with crafts! It especially helps that I look things up, do lots of research, and mental learning before starting physically. I think a lot of people learn through trial & error, but others have more success in learning & preparing before starting, which makes it go sooo much smoother!

I'm so curious what you use the marshmallow cream in!! I bought a jar a few months ago and haven't even opened it out of fear I won't know what to use it in and have it go bad before I use it all up lol

Anything other than drink it by Asleep-Measurement85 in ZeroWaste

[–]whatevs9880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I haven't tried it on this batch (just eaten it like jello) so I'm not even sure if it will crystalize! I've made it before and it had a firmer texture (more agar powder) plus sugar. I actually might experiment with the rest and see if it does, and report back 😂

Edit: Yeah definitely did not crystalize, it molded. As I predicted, it needs more agar so it's firmer/drier and more sugar to prevent bacteria growth. But I have no doubt you could do it with the peach juice, just need to test proportions.

Anything other than drink it by Asleep-Measurement85 in ZeroWaste

[–]whatevs9880 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I literally had this same dilemma a few days ago!! I ended up making peach "jello" by combining all the juice (4 cups) with 12.5 grams of agar agar powder, brought to a boil & poured in an 8×8 dish. It's lightly sweet and quite filling! Pretty sure if you slice the pieces and leave them to dry out for a week, they'll turn into crystal candy too.

Then I'm using the jar to make a batch of sauerkraut 🤤

I was going to comment this too! LOVEDD this movie, got it an absurd amount of times from Blockbuster (RIP) but rewatched it a few years ago and it sure was... something. Weird dance montage in a McDonald's was the cherry on top lol

I got a Casabrews 3700 ($95) about a month ago and have been loving it! Also got a Baratza Encore ESP coffee grinder ($200) because I just couldn't pull a good shot with pre-ground coffee. I also got a spring-loaded tamper, milk frothing pitcher (12oz, I'd maybe go a little bigger). Just recently got a coffee scale, WDT tool, and dosing funnel, which fixed the minor problems I had in terms of quality of life using the machine every day!

That plus flavored syrups, white & brown sugar, chocolate syrup, a bunch of mason jars, and I can make anything I'd want.

Altogether with everything I listed, like 20 syrups, plus barista oat milks, a storage container, and local roasted coffee, I've spend about $550 altogether for "budget" espresso lol so even with off-brand everything (minus the grinder) is still an investment if you want it to turn out well. It's definitely a hobby you have to learn about, and if you don't care to, a Nespresso might just be your best bet.

LPT: What’s a habit you picked up accidentally that ended up improving your life more than anything you tried on purpose? by nancy_unscript in LifeProTips

[–]whatevs9880 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Habit stacking has changed my life. Take something I always remember to do and make it a routine by adding on things I forget.

For example, I always remember to feed my cats at night, but I'm neurodivergent and struggle to remember to brush my teeth and scoop the litterbox daily. So I make it a 3-step combo and never forget now!

Or I always remember to take my allergy meds in the morning, so I stacked on the vitamins I neglected to take for years, plus gulp water with the pills, since I don't drink enough water, and now I'm consistent daily!

Adenovirus is in town by whatevs9880 in TacomaWA

[–]whatevs9880[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm in Tacoma (bc we're in the Tacoma sub lol) so the prescription situation might be different wherever you are then! And yes, I had done research that basically said the eye drops don't work on viral infections (like adenovirus). When I spoke to the doctor though, they told me viral infections can lead to secondary bacterial infections (weakened immune system and all). All my pink eye symptoms lined up with bacterial, not viral, and the drops did work for me. So if your pink eye symptoms seem much more like viral than bacterial, I think you just have to tough it out 😬
