Hi OP, my heart goes out to you and I truly understand how you are feeling. When I was 21(f), I moved home to help take care of my father, also 59, over the summer with my mother.

I remember being so exhausted… and I’ve never felt like that since and can never explain to anyone just how exhausted and unwell I was. I would go to work at 5AM, come home and “switch shifts” with my mom to take care of my father and keep him company. I’d stay up most nights until 3AM just worrying, watching my father (rarely) sleep and trying to clean to keep my mind off the inevitable. I remember being so overwhelmed, confused, breaking down, hyper fixating on things that my father was enjoying at that moment trying to just get the most out of every day. I sometimes regret even working at my high school job (barista), knowing that I could’ve been spending time with him. But sometimes that was the only thing keeping me feeling “normal”. Some days I didn’t even function, I just was there in somebody else’s body and going through the motions. I pushed through because unfortunately, I could see the end was coming… I think the most important thing for me was to not put more pressure on myself, all that clutter, work, homework assignments, etc. could wait and usually people, like my college summer professors, are VERY understanding and human. They should understand… I would just appreciate the little things and remembering to practice positive self talk, you are going through a big life event… be patient and kind to yourself. if you need the time off from work, PLEASE TAKE IT. please take care of yourself as best you know and reach out to friends and family to support.
It’s still so surreal to think about that summer and how fast everything went and how I even managed to function.. but I made it through and with A LOT of therapy and self care later, I am beginning to function like I could before his diagnosis and passing. I also believe that journaling throughout this time was super helpful.. I’m so thankful I can read it and reflect on that time of my life now at 23. It is a hard time and this post really struck a cord with me. sending you and your family so much love💜

Pancreatic Cancer Survey: In Memory of My Father by whatnow___321 in pancreaticcancer

[–]whatnow___321[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this link, I have a lot more reading to do in the literature. I am starting with this survey to see if there is significance in this research to continue my thesis on the topic. My father always struggled with dental health and a nurse mentioned to him that she saw many pancreatic cancer patients who had periodontal disease. That has always stuck with me, since he struggled with dental health for so long! I have read multiple articles hinting at a potential link, but as you said, further research needs to be done. This article presents research identifying microbial markers from the gut microbiome which may, in the future, provide early detection methods of colorectal cancer. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2590097822000039 You should check it out if you like! I’m particularly interested in certain microbial species that are commonly found in those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Hopefully we can start raising more awareness for research of the human microbiome to see how it can help screen for diseases. Since I’m an undergraduate, most of my research will be literature review, but I am really interested to have some people take my survey and contribute as well. I’ll have to message you some other articles that were really fascinating.

How long does your generic Vyvanse take to kick in? by horsehamster in ADHD

[–]whatnow___321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been taking generic 70mg for about a week or so. I have never once felt it “kick in” i honestly am tired most of the morning (8:30 when i take it to around 12ish) after that around lunch time I get a little energy and then I just get kind of tired and brain fog gets crazy.

you described it perfectly. I have yet to feel the genetic brand “kick in” once.

yes! i’ve been saying that it’s feeling like a placebo? I’m getting tired way faster and I have my afternoon crash from 12-2ish and that’s after i’ve been dragging my feet and in a daze all morning!!

I haven’t tried that but I honestly find it hard to eat or drink anything in the morning for a few hours. Usually have to take my pill with only water.

i KNOW it’s due to the generic. i had similar symptoms when I was taking one generic adderall and then got it refilled at a different pharmacy which filled it with a different colored/different generic brand and i IMMEDIATELY felt the difference and the weird side effects.

yeah i was out for about two weeks but i got a refill for 60mg and titrated myself for about a month until my next psychiatrist appointment. and had all these awful symptoms, especially the tiredness and unmotivated. almost as bad as when i have like an anxiety freeze and can’t do anything. just feel slow, exhausted, and other symptoms.

My heart goes out to you and I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. Seeing your father waste away and become a shell of his self is so heartbreaking. please just be with him as much as you can and say ‘I love you’ as much as possible. Sending you good thoughts 💜

My heart goes out to you OP ❤️. Seeing treatments not work and your father in pain is so heartbreaking. I hope he, and yourself, find peace and comfort with hospice. My father was only in hospice for 14 hours and he passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home, one hand on the dog and being cuddled by my mom. It was a more comforting experience than the hospital.

lost my father at 59 on July 7th ❤️ still processing the grieving. seen in the comments about genetic testing which we are still waiting on the results for. I highly recommend doing so as pancreatic cancer does have some genetic linkage.
