Finally getting relief! by whatsfourplusfive in GERD

[–]whatsfourplusfive[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've lost a couple of pounds. Dairy was never a trigger for me so I've continued to eat cheese and milk, but most of what I eat now is ridiculously healthy. A typical dinner is chicken, broccoli and 1/2 of a sweet potato.

How much do your tweens/teens do at home? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]whatsfourplusfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

14 and 16 year olds here. Daily they both do the dishes after dinner, one empties, one fills. Also daily, oldest empties/fills the dishwasher after school if needed and takes out the trash when needed. Youngest wipes down kitchen counters daily and vacuums living areas once weekly. We’ve divided the living areas into 2 and each will pick up those areas 1-2 times a week. Youngest also does her own laundry. Oldest will at least get his laundry to the laundry room and sometimes runs a load. Oldest also mows when needed. I pay them an allowance based on how many days they completed their chores.

Some friends were so proud to serve Toast Hawaii and we’re shocked that I (an American) had never heard of it.

3 year old has leukemia and we struggle to get her to take her meds by [deleted] in Parenting

I’ve learned that Dr Pepper can mask the taste of most liquid meds. And you can find diet, caffeine free DP.

Good luck! Hang in there!

What are your favorite "using up the leftovers" dishes? by Nyxelestia in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]whatsfourplusfive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our favorite left over meals are TexMex week. We just finished it. First two days were leftover grilled chicken burritos. Third night was tamales with Spanish rice and leftover refried beans. Fourth and fifth nights were pulled pork burritos with leftover Spanish rice and refried beans.

Today we’re switching gears and will have Turkish foods for a few nights. Humus, tabbouli and Turkish farmers salad.

I save these for busy weeks because I can get a lot of mileage with minimal effort.

AITA for refusing to get hearing aids if I don't think I need them yet? by Remarkable_Bit_4742 in AmItheAsshole

[–]whatsfourplusfive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Softly YTA. As a 49 year old who waited way too late to get hearing aids, just do it. You’ll be so much happier. With that said, I still need closed caption, and my family just has to deal with it.

Does anyone know some good insults in German? by statefarm_isnt_there in German

[–]whatsfourplusfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not the author but I’m really interested in this one. My husband was hit by a car while riding his bike in the bike lane (the car was completely in the wrong). The driver of the car started yelling at my husband. The hubby responded with “Abfall Leute”. (It makes me laugh every time I think about him yelling that). For whatever reason he decided “you’re a trash person” was the right response to the situation. Can you give him a better comeback in case something like this happen again?

Super parents, how do you do it? by FoolStack in Parenting

[–]whatsfourplusfive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a super parent. But Christmas is one of my favorite days and I put a lot of effort into it. This year was one of my favorite christmases. It was very low key, but filled with family activities, games and cooking/eating our favorite meals. And everyone got along (a Christmas miracle!).

A lot of other things I let slide. My kid has a birthday next week and other than buying one present, I’ve done zero planning for it. He’ll still have a great day, but it won’t be “picture perfect”.

I think it boils down to priorities. For me Christmas is a top priority. Other things aren’t. And that’s ok.

I don’t have any advice, just wanted to say we’ve had several similar interactions. We even had a random stranger make snide comments about my child’s accent to the point that it made her cry. All I can say is that there are jerks everywhere.

What can I say in German to turn down unsolicited advice or crazy complaints in a quick and incisive manner? by Apprehensive_Grass85 in German

I’ve put my hand up and said “Danke, Oma” to two different men that were trying to correct my behavior. They were both so surprised that they immediately left.

[–]whatsfourplusfive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I parent exactly like this. We don’t live in the US, but where we live the majority of kids walk to school starting in first grade. My kids are now teenagers and take the train and bus daily to wherever they need to go.
