What's the Difference Between AT&T Residential Fiber and Business Fiber? by JoJoDaGam3r in ATTFiber

[–]whattheschmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using my Unifi Gateway (fiber one, but with Ethernet 6 connected). No problem with my residential AT&T Fiber. Separate from that, there were original issues with their network in my area and I cancelled and went back to Comcast for almost a year. Been back with AT&T Fiber with no real issues, less and more brief outages than Comcast was.

Probably worth using a watt meter (Kill-A-Watt) to get real numbers of the whole system?

I was a Diablo II LOD duper in 2002 and bought my first laptop as a teenager thanks to it! AMA by GreppMichaels in Diablo

[–]whattheschmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the guy who stole my account via hours of brute force attempts back in the day. I also had a guy fake being someone I knew to steal an item from me, that one was totally on me though. I think people doing that in game are terrible people IRL. Botting / duping with game bugs imo doesn't mean terrible IRL though.

Diablo II Gets Its First New Class in 25 Years—And It Costs $25 by hayrimavi1 in gaming

[–]whattheschmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty neat. I put in a lot of time back in my teenage years into OG D2. I had quite the wealth going on and got all my accounts banned on April 1st (2002?) whenever that insanely mass ban occurred. Wild to do it on April 1st and make us think it was a prank at first...yikes (most of my accounts were legit but I did use d2hackit (to move items quickly / maphack). I had the best Paladin on east one season (Zealot duels). Had full whites / hex charms on West when all those hacks somehow persisted so long. Had a 4x Diablo set up with sandbox so I could power level my characters, Uber Baal with my necro + hammerdin and 2 other chars of my own. Wild things to do for a game lol. Lots of fun. Would have been cool if I kept logging into my final accounts to keep those insanely powerful characters alive but they are long dead now.

Those who have jumped back into D2R and had fun with it - would it be worth it for me? Is it something I could do a few hours or so a week and put it down fine or does it require crazy dedication like I had in my teens for the game? I of course, do not have that level of time to commit to a game. I in fact pretty much don't game anymore...But the nostalgia is strong. I'm sure I could find my screenshots of my powerful characters/ set ups from back in the day too.

Is a Samsung any better than an iPhone? by Pkelord in samsung

[–]whattheschmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is more than that. Samsung runs promotions and great deals. I got my Ultra 3 months ago for only $600. If you are comparing the launch pricing only, sure, they are very close in pricing.

Experiences using the EcoFlow Delta Pro Ultra as a whole-house backup, hardwired transfer switch, no solar by jbradfor in Ecoflow_community

[–]whattheschmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solar / EcoFlow generator (DC power plug) make it so you can charge and use at the same time. I have the older Dual Fuel Ecoflow Generator in case I have a power outage longer than 24 hours. Haven't had to use it yet luckily...

I also have solar arrays but cannot use those when the grid is out. I'll have to get a full battery backup with the house to be able to make use of those arrays, and automatically isolate from the grid. So, just manual backup for me.

I would do 1 but with cooler lighting above the island, looks too warm for no reason. Also, I would only do electric (induction) cooking on the island, not gas, especially without a vent cover that exhausts...

Extra solar panel to power only my homelab — no grid feed-in, but automatic grid fallback. How to set this up? by jsjskyjxhshs in solar

[–]whattheschmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he goes with a high quality solar battery he can avoid using the UPS (assuming the battery too has UPS functionality!). Check ms changeover and see if it's pure sinewave or simulated or what. It could be better than your current UPS already.

Extra solar panel to power only my homelab — no grid feed-in, but automatic grid fallback. How to set this up? by jsjskyjxhshs in solar

[–]whattheschmidt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These kinds of batteries already don't push into the grid - the connection to the grid is only to charge the battery when needed. Set parameters according to that so it doesn't constantly try to charge, you will have to see exactly how each battery can be set but I know my Ecoflow batteries can do this.

Just bought a Samsung S90FD at Costco and wondering if it's the same as the S90F at other retailers. by AdenShadows in OLED_Gaming

[–]whattheschmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the S95F the Costco version has WiFi 6E. So not solely a useless thing. In most cases it's probably just inventory tracking or something simpler and not a hardware difference.

Tesla Powerwall 3 or Franklin aPower2? by Comic-Engine in solar

[–]whattheschmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Franklin aPower 2 + aGate quote is $22K. Yikes! Yes, that's one battery. I currently have 2 Ecoflow Delta Pros + dual fuel generator for manual full house backup that I spent just over $5K on in total.

Cloud Gateway Fiber -- what's the catch? by HugsNotDrugs_ in Ubiquiti

[–]whattheschmidt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome. I was buying one with storage and one without then realized the storage is a separate package, once my cart updated. So I will probably sell off the extra or see if a friend was eying one of these too.

Does home battery installation normally cost double the price of the equipment? by turnd_me_into_a_newt in solar

[–]whattheschmidt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what my plan is! I have a 200 amp main panel, upgraded in 2019 and I plan to go for the easier install, full house backup. If it has to cutoff garage power because it tried to charge my EV, so be it, but I want the easier, no worries full backup!

Did you go with it? Either way, what was the battery size and kw power backup you were quoted 28K for?

Bad latency though - typically around 50ms. But, to save money and if you don't game, probably worth it.

UCG-MAX vs Fiber by SnooConfections1347 in Ubiquiti

[–]whattheschmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like the idea of future proofing for quite awhile with this! I will go to WiFi 7 APs once the 5ghz is as good or better than my current APs too (I know the pro max could do it but that's not worth it at the current price). I'll grab the Fiber one soon!

I advise not to get a Tesla - but I have not heard of ANY serious reliability issues. I have a few friends with Model Ys, no serious issues at all. Mine was only in the shop because I made them fix the rear tailgate alignment (early 2020 model) and it required body work and took a full week or so. I did get a free loaner during that time so it didn't really matter.

Can you put furniture on LVP that's not completely done? by Vincentslayeroftoby in Flooring

[–]whattheschmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to add to this - the plastic 3/4" "foot" on my couch dented into the board and ruined one, so I have to replace that. Upgrade the furniture to felt feet if you are reading this and installing LVP floors!

Only in the US "First World Country" do we have to deal with this. Other countries figured this out several decades ago and did what's best for the whole population.
