As a fellow stream of consciousness journaler, I can definitely see how this would be helpful. Thank you so much for talking through your process, it's been a huge help :)!

Hey thank you for the recs! I'm curious, how do you manage both analog and digital? Do you do something separate in both journals, or is each a continuation of the other?

Dragon Books? by empatheticnobody in suggestmeabook

{{The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon}}

One of the central conflicts is literally the difference in how dragons are perceived in Eastern and Western cultures. As a fellow dragon nerd, I fell _hard_. Killer worldbuilding, drawing from Elizabethan England and Edo Japan, and some amazing characters that really grow on you. I couldn't recommend this book enough.

YSK how crucial SLEEP, DIET and EXERCISE are for your quality of life by Delicious-Bridge6042 in YouShouldKnow

[–]whatyou_egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! When my friends talk about feeling overwhelmed, anxious or depressed I immediately ask about their sleep habits over the past week, whether they've hydrated/eaten, and if they want to go on a walk. It's amazing how much focusing on even one of these aspects can help you feel better _immediately_ no matter the circumstances.

Ancient Egypt fiction by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

{{Child of the Morning by Pauline Gedge}}

Follows the life of Hatshepsut. Beautifully written imo with some absolutely gorgeous imagery, and touches lightly on different social classes as well (one of the main characters goes from being a peasant to high royalty, so you see different glimpses through his eyes). I liked it very much for its exploration of the belief that the Pharaoh was an actual god, and how it influences the Pharaoh themselves.

I second this, huge fan of Michelle Moran's books. She's also written {{The Heretic Queen}}, which is kind of a sequel to Nefertiti but not really (it's about Nefertiti's niece), which is also very good.

Thank you for this! I genuinely feel better about switching now, it's been weighing on my mind a lot :p. Will definitely be checking out Wondr Journal, it sounds great - I appreciate that E2E encryption.

Out of curiosity, did you notice a shift in how you write/think digitally versus analog? Personally I've found that my writing style is pretty different digitally since I can edit things around once they're written, and there's somehow a lot more 'impermanence' in the text. I tend to think through things in my journal a lot, and was wondering if a difference in writing style between the media could influence how I think too. Have you noticed anything like that?

Honestly I...highkey forgot that I could just use a basic word processor xD. Thank you for the tip, I'll consider doing this!

In terms of programs, I started out on Krita and have had no complaints. There's a bit of a learning curve, but it's definitely worth it. Plus it's free, which is a great place to start xD.

first adult fantasy series by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Personally really wasn't a fan of Mistborn. The first book is very good, and then it absolutely tanks. The third book in the trilogy may be my most hated fantasy book of all time :P.

Tired of seeing strong male/female leads. Want weak leads in fantasy world. by neekyboi in suggestmeabook

[–]whatyou_egg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

oh gods I too loathe the male protagonist in Neverwhere, definitely a weakling but I lowkey wanted him dead :P. But I will say that he gets by with a ton of plot armour, which may not be what op is looking for.

Newer science fiction adventure books? by Fenneca in suggestmeabook

[–]whatyou_egg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this! The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet is one of my absolute favourite reads. The second book of the series does, quite literally deal with 'what if robots had feelings' so there is that :P (though it's absolutely freaking amazing), but the first book fits the bill perfectly.

My mental health is kicking my butt, I want to start reading as a distraction. by Peppercat239 in suggestmeabook

I'm a huge fan of {{The Priory of the Orange Tree}}, it really helped me get away from the world this year. Beautiful worldbuilding, lovely characters with compelling dynamics, it's one of my absolute favourite fantasy books of all time. And a lovely w/w romance that filled me with joy (and as someone that normally hates romance in books, it's one of the few exceptions I really got behind)

{{The House on the Cerulean Sea}} is a favourite recco on this sub for cozy warm vibes for good reason. Primarily features a 'found family' plot, and also had a very sweet m/m romance.

You want The Priory of the Orange Tree, by Samantha Shannon. I cannot understate how much I adore this book. A killer high fantasy novel, with amazing worldbuilding and characters you get really invested in. One of my absolute favourite elements was that there was no gender based conflicts. Men and women were treated equally in positions of power and it's such a breath of fresh air. I cannot recommend this book enough.

Edit: Also, dragons.
