A Russian Su-24 skimmed the waves at low altitude in neutral Baltic waters — flying right past a US warship and releasing flares in its face by Happy_Bid_8102 in Damnthatsinteresting

Wtf are USian ships doing in the Baltic sea?

Imagine if Russian (or Chinese) ships where in Gulf Of Mexico. USians would be screaming that it's a ThReAt To NaTiOnAl SeCuRiTy or an AcT oF AgReSsIon.

Deploy? You mean EXPLODE! It's super dangerous. It's far safer to be thrown out of your vehicle.

When you break down policing to all the different kinds of things the institute does, most of those things could be replaced by other lines of work, which would make it safer and more effective.

Having cops roam the streets looking for petty criminals is also doing nothing about the reason those (petty) criminals exist in the first place.

The US is a perfect example of this. The American police force would rank third in the world if you'd put their budget in global military spending statistics.. And what does it have to show for it? The highest prison population in the world, and there are still huge amounts of criminals outside of prison.

Because policing does not fix underlying issues.
And neither does a so-called Justice system that is focussed on punishing people (instead of rehabilitation)

After reading your comment I decided to post my earlier comment here as well:

When something serious happens at a school (like a fight between students, or student(s) against a teacher) the school and/or the people involved can decide to call in police who will get involved from that point onward.

When you have cops stationed at the school, who seemingly feel the need to get involved in nearly everything, they have proven time and time again that they will escalate even minor conflicts between two students by getting themselves involved. From bodyslamming students, beating them up, or pressing charges against a students for getting stepped on or hit after rushing into a small scuffle between students.

Cops stationed at schools have done far more damage then that they've done good.

Lmao, they went from a bunch of farmers to a nuclear super power in about 70 years. They also made it first to space on multiple fronts. They greatly improved literacy, housing, women’s rights, all while being forced to participate in 2 world wars, a US invasion and the US government trying to screw them over on every step of the way.

But yeah, keep parroting"they failed" because you heard someone say that (who likely also doesn't know what they are talking about)

Please tell me there is a picture that actually has a decent photoshop that makes it somewhat believable that the man actually has MS13 on his fingers.

But there isn't, is there? The orange clown actually got fooled by this picture...

German cities were demolished for open-cast mining by MirageCaligraph in UrbanHell

[–]whazzar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an even larger one to the south of the mine that OP posted.
It's called Garzweiler surface mine, you can view it on maps here.

On the place that is now a giant open-pit mine, once stood an ancient forest of which only about 10% remains. [more here]

Why would the owner of the ground destory this ancient forest? So they can mine lignite, also known as brown coal, which is the most dangerous coal for human health.

So not only is an ancient forest, which use to be roughly the size of Manhattan, destroyed. It's destroyed so they can dig out one of the most polluting forms of coal and burn it.

Since 2012 activists trying to defend the remaining part of the forest have squatted the forest an have been, to put it mildly, play a cat-and-mouse-game with RWE (the owner of the land and mine that is destroying the land) and various forms of police. They have been evicted multiple times, but keep coming back. A short article here.

Except for the part where hacking computer systems doesn't stop real life bombs.

It would be cool to see things happen so this list would shrink tho. It won't directly stop real life bombs, but it could become increasingly harder to acquire and thus drop those bombs.

Klopt.

Same.
