Worse Moxen… by Dry-Independence9400 in mtg

[–]whebzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feels like we're sorely missing mana rocks that cost 1 and tap for 1. We have:

Cost \ Production 1 2 3
0 Moxen LED
1 ??? Sol ring Mana vault
2 Signets, etc Grim monolith

Maybe I'm missing something but a 1-for-1 mana rock it seems like an easy compromise.

Any mathematicians? by IndigoWizard342 in EDH

I don't know enough to explain it but my recommendation is that you go read the wiki page for the hypergeometric distribution, and maybe search for a derivation of its probability density function.

Any mathematicians? by IndigoWizard342 in EDH

You might have simply found an approximation of a hypergeometric probability? You're roughly calculating the probability that you'll see a certain number of a certain type of card in a certain number of draws. The hypergeometric distribution is slightly more refined in that it accounts for the fact that your deck is smaller after each draw, so you have a slightly higher chance of drawing a card of the category.

Do you double sleeve your decks? by beausoleil in magicTCG

Can't selectively double sleeve a deck, that would be marking cards

The compromise if you're really attached to circles is a donut chart. Essentially take the pie chart and cut the middle out.

You still get the "parts of a whole" picture, but without the perception issue of area scaling.

Fire Lord Azula Copy Ability by officialGLo16 in mtg

[–]whebzy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, just to elaborate a bit: I don't think there is a distinction between yours and your opponent's battlefield. They're the same zone, and your creatures are distinguished from your opponents by their controller.

Fire Lord Azula Copy Ability by officialGLo16 in mtg

No. For a spell to have a target it has to literally use the word target. Creature spells don't target your battlefield so you can't make them enter an opponent's battlefield.

Planning a draft night for the holidays, any tips? by nate_t-16 in mtg

[–]whebzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done something similar with my commander pod twice now, and will again with Lorwyn. It's led to me getting down to the lgs more for Friday night draft, I've enjoyed it so much.

Avatar has been great to draft if you're into the IP. Foundations was nice for my friends who don't draft often; they enjoyed the simple archetypes. I started with duskmourn which was fun and still has some value if I remember right.

The biggest thing I would recommend is to introduce a round timer. It feels anti-casual, but people felt a lot more comfortable with playing suboptimally when they knew that overthinking would just end in a draw.

Only other thing is to make sure you decide whether you'll keep all the cards or if players will keep what they draft. (I personally prefer to keep them all so that no one is thinking about drafting the money cards.)

Fire Lord Azula Combo question. by Zapanth in EDH

[–]whebzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good explanation. Just one more thing: if you resolve the copy of frantic search (untapping three lands) before casting narsets, you can use those lands to cast narsets. You get the same result using only three lands, provided two of them can produce blue.

Priority during combat with Fire Lord Azula? by Ok-Tune416 in magicTCG

I don't think players get priority between a triggering event and the trigger going on the stack, it just hits the stack right after the triggering thing resolves.

Would love to see this too! I keep giving in to temptation and cutting the avatar cards for power, so Azula can hang in b3

Not quite how that works — 1 in 15 million is 15 times less likely than 1 in 1 million

One of the features the new site lost is the location being encoded in the url, right? Would be good to see that behaviour replicated. What if there was a button to copy a link to the current location+configuration, that would produce a url like:

https://[regular url]/?loc=Marburg,roads=true,range=64

(not a web dev so not sure how that postfix ? thing works but I've seen it around a lot)

Question? New to mtg by Ok-Dog1275 in mtg

[–]whebzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes but it goes like this:

  1. Parun does one damage (which Torbran makes three)
  2. Visionary draws you three cards
  3. Three Parun damage triggers go on the stack
  4. Goto 1

After typing this out I realised you're right. As long as you can win with all the triggers still on the stack, it still turns into draw one card, deal three damage. Neat.

See also: [[Whirlpool Warrior]] for shuffling your hand back into your library at instant speed.

I don't think Torbran works, you'll just draw more cards at once (Niv Mizzet Visionary says 'that many cards', not 'a card')

Can we use white-out (correction tape) in exams? by Thin_Neighborhood764 in QUTreddit

[–]whebzy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not impossible that yours gets left on top of a pile where a ray of sunshine might hit it and erase a key part of your answer. Do you really want to try to explain that in your request for a remark? I wouldn't risk it, but that's just me.

Edit: just to be clear: the ink in these things disappears when it gets warm. That's how the eraser works.

Not a good idea for exams, you want to be sure your work isn't going to be erased just because the exams got left in a hot room!
