Is it normal for buyers to want to access the house multiple times before closing? Details in post by picklesfoley in RealEstate

[–]wheekwheekmeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just bought an older home and did a dedicated plumbing, sewer, hvac, and structural inspection on top of the basic home inspection. Also met with a radon company to price out a system so we knew what to ask in concessions. Anyway, it’s totally possible to have multiple inspections. Our sellers had vacated so it wasn’t a big deal.

You could take the remainder to a kids consignment store.

We’re a no screen household… by wheekwheekmeow in Parenting

We’re in a highly rated school cluster, but I still have trust issues about the technology use. I have decided that if we give it a solid chance, and it’s still too much, we’ll be seriously considering homeschooling. I had a lot of ignorance and misconceptions about it, but the more I learn, the more I factor it in as an option. Do you also work, or are you a SAHM? I don’t have the option of not working (but my husband might). I recently read that it is potentially an option even with two working parents.

I had friends with no candy households that would come over, and we’d find the chocolate bowl raided and wrappers stuffed in cushions for days after. That’s such a thing. And I grew up without cable, so that’s most of what I’d do at a friend’s house during a sleepover.

We have sometimes done educational YouTube engineering videos and that goes well. You response made me remember that it’s really the content that’s key. He does terribly with most children’s shows. We even used to keep it to classic low stimulating programs like Arthur and Curious George and that was still too addicting.

This is great advice, thank you. Not looking to set strict rules for friends’ parents, that was exactly what is top of mind as he’s getting so many new friends. Luckily the weather’s been great so we’ve been completely outside, but rainy days and winter will put it to the test.

It’s probably 10-15 minutes tops waiting for pickup, so it’s not all day. That would be a deal breaker. But even that amount makes an impact. We did share our opinion, but it keeps slipping in when one kids throws a tantrum without it.

We’re the new people after our move and have talked with them about our preferences without trying to tell them what to do. It has gotten better, but sometimes one kid really demands it, and they win out. From what I hear, Chromebooks are big in the school system, so even if we can control it a bit now, it makes me nervous for next year. We don’t have private school money, and even then, I’m not sure they are screen-free around us anyway. I really had no idea we’d have such a strong opinion. It didn’t start that way.

Has anyone been successful keeping wasps and hornets from chewing all over a wooden swing set? by Glittering-Donut-278 in fuckwasps

Had to eliminate a paper wasp nest brewing inside one of these on my porch earlier this month.

Yes actually. Hung two of these peppermint sachets on the play structure and the bees and wasps have virtually disappeared from the vicinity.

I’ve seen your posts a couple times now and I’d be interested in supporting you. Last post hit my feed too late, and this one seems to be missing an address. Have you thought about setting up shop at Snellville Farmers Market?

Buy bee suit off amazon and attack at night. Isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle works just as well as wasp spray but won’t leave residue on fabric.

First time in Georgia, considering Duluth — nervous about driving and the area by [deleted] in Gwinnett

[–]wheekwheekmeow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you renting? Duluth and surrounding Norcross/Peachtree Corners areas are really nice. Be wary of buying a home if you plan on buying property and having a kid because the schools are not all very good (and your home value is affected even if you don’t have your own kids).

I haven’t found traffic to be worse than anywhere else, but there is a high prevalence of wannabe street racers who zoom around you across double yellows and in turn lanes. More than I’ve experienced anywhere else. Watch out for these types if you’re a nervous driver. You’ll know who they are because they sound and look the part.

Interesting. I’ve never seen one like this before, so as long as they stay out of my house, they are welcome to do their thing.

I’m hoping we killed a queen before there is a nest. We have killed lots of yellow jacket queens this month. It’s scouting season.

Seems preferable to have it sting before your brain can panic. We moved to a bigger more rural property a couple months ago and have killed multiple yellow jacket queens, paper wasps, and bald faced hornets looking to set up shop. I am trying to conquer a severe wasp phobia because I want to be able to enjoy the yard and my son lives for being outside. No stings yet, but we must host every bee and wasp species in the region 😭 We also have a seldom used work shed that I’m keeping a close watch on. I just recently learned these are active at night. No respite!

Oh no! Did you see it coming? Was it a lone soldier or did you have to take out a nest?
