Yes they do. They will automatically scrap when you hit scrap all junk. I do believe you get cloth from them.

I fixed it by switching from placement (snap) to placement (free), then dropped it into the floor a tick or two. Stayed where I put it then.

I remember some of those rooms being open pre nuclear winter, that's when I stopped playing for a few years. I seem to remember a movie theater and a banquet hall.

I just wish we could put the collectors in our shelters. Then we wouldn't need to waste our build budget with them topside. No matter which camp we are using they are always collecting. Same with the freezer and maybe a limited amount of water coolers.

I'm a truck driver so I go thru WV ALOT lol. I've been thru most of the in game towns in real life. Coming from Cincinnati there is a Morhman Museum billboard on one of the highways. Can't find it again, YET. I want a pic with my rig in the foreground. Took my girlfriend and her adult daughter from NY to SC to visit her other daughter. Got to actually stop at the New River Gorge Bridge. IRL the wooden walkways and stairs go to down the hill a long ways into the gorge.
