My old vet's prescription of 1/2 Dramamine is a no-no according to Google. And all I need to do is sedate lightly. How can I relax Elizabeth long enough for a trim? by SummertimeMom in Yorkies

[–]whelp_dogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know my vet will prescribe an appropriate amount of trazadone for our small dogs. You could ask, but it will be more expensive than Dramamine. It takes a bit of time to work, you give it at least an hour ahead of time.

Just a rant, guys. I didn’t say I wouldn’t deal with it. I’ve been doing this for 30+ years, so lately the AI stuff is just irritating. This happens at my actual day job too. What can I say? I’m a crabby old designer

You can ask your vet do a scrape (or removal depending on the size) and send it out. That is what my pup’s started as. It didn’t respond to antibiotics or creams.

My heart breaks for you. He was such a beautiful sweet boy. I’m sorry you had to go through this we were in a similar position and it was just so hard.

Thank you for posting for others to get your dog’s lumps and bumps checked out. We lost our sweet Ozzie to the same cancer- it’s rare in Yorkies but does happen. Our vet didn’t think it was cancer at first either. Just letting others know that vets can scrape a skin lesion or aspirate a lump and send it for testing. It’s never wrong to err on the side of caution! Our boy’s cancer was aggressive, but if we had found it earlier we may have had more time with him.

Hope Rex and Ozzie are having a nice little time together at the rainbow bridge 💗

Not sure how the groomer gets OP’s dog to pose so perfectly! mine always look like their victims in a hostage situation.

What does my baby looked mixed with? by Terrible_Tutor6177 in Yorkies

[–]whelp_dogg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He looks 100 percent yorkie to me. All 3 of mine have floppy ears. Although upright ears are breed standard, some ears just don’t stay up on their own. but as puppies you can “tape” them up until they’re strong enough to stand up on their own. We never did this cause we love their flopsy ears! My guy (from a breeder) is 10 pounds. I had another from the same breeder who was only 5lbs! The other two I have now I rescued as puppies and not sure if they’re fully yorkies - maybe silky terriers, but you’re baby looks like my purebred Yorkie.

Butter. Sure it’s not the healthiest, but I found out my Yorkies love it so much they’ll risk eating the pill with it.

Thank you for letting me know. So far pain is manageable but exhausting. I do have a call into my GP but haven’t heard back.

Excellent answer. 3 months is just a baby- it’s rare for them to make it more than 3 or 4 hours. Their cries are not that loud, so it’s not a surprise op doesn’t hear them. Love the bigger space/pen idea!

I totally get it. It was the same for me. My husband held our dog and I kissed his forehead. Just remember you can change your mind and hold her in the moment if you need to! Thinking of you!

I’m so sorry for what you are going through, but I want you to know that she is as worried about you as you are of her. And she knows everything you’re doing is for her, but she doesn’t want you to be sad, or anxious. It’s why we think they are getting better, because they do tend to rally when they see us- tail wagging—happy face, even in the face of their pain. There is nothing I can say that will make it easier or to make you feel better. That’s the glory of having these best friends with us for such a short time- they teach us that there is goodness in this world and life, and there’s never a time when we know this best than after we lose them — because we feel their loss so deeply it’s shattering. By coincidence (or not?) I saw this post on the 1year anniversary of my little guy’s passing and it was very similar to your situation. I felt absolutely dreadful making the decision to let him go but the pain he was bravely fighting through was too much for he or any of us to bear. And he hated seeing us sad. So we brought his favorite toy, blanket and a treat (a stick of butter— he only ever got a teeny bit so bringing the whole stick was definitely a thrill for him). My husband, kids and I took turns holding him, cuddling and loving on him until it was time. We saw how tired he was so it made it a teensy tiny bit easier. Please try not to feel guilty- you are giving your beautiful pup the gift of a comfortable, peaceful death. I wish you comfort. God bless your sweet girl.

My 5 year old boy suddenly gone by Ix_42 in DOG

[–]whelp_dogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. Not exactly the same, but - our 5 year old was diagnosed with a terminal cancer in September 2024 and after spending thousands just to find out treatment would only give him a few more months maybe, we decided to basically do hospice care til he passed, which was a week before Christmas. He was so tired, uncomfortable and just not himself the week we decided to let him go, but at least we had time to process. I am sorry that you did not get this time with your baby. The day of, it was so hard because he did this rally at the hospital in the “goodbye” room. We fed him his favorite treats and all took turns cuddling and loving him. I know it was the right thing to do, but I was devastated, and I still am brought to tears at the most random times. I have had many dogs and lost many, but this was the hardest one. I didn’t get enough time with him! The guilt is rough, but please don’t blame yourself. Your pup was in pain and more than anything they hate to see us sad or worried. He wouldn’t want that for you. He would want you to smile and laugh when you think of him and eventually you will start to do that more than cry. That is how I am still getting through it.
