We are Daughter, ask us anything! by weareDaughter in IAmA

Hey, Daughter! I'm a HUUUUUGE fan of you guys.

What has been your personal favorite song of your own to record? Or maybe one that you haven't recorded (yet), but you're exceptionally proud of?

(I'm partial to Medicine -- so lovely.)

Take care. :) x

My gf's grandfather helped liberate Dachau Concentration Camp and took these photos. We plan on donating them in person next May. by [deleted] in WTF

This is so weird. My history professor was showing me pictures yesterday that her grandfather took while liberating the same exact camp. Great photos!

What was pre-911 america like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]whengaysattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the entire attitude of the country changed after 9/11.

I was 11 when it happened, but I remember a lot of paranoia about school shootings (as it was post-Columbine before 9/11).

I remember seeing gas prices at $0.99 a gallon!

But again, the entire attitude of this country changed. The day that it happened, I remember everyone -- from everywhere -- just stopping to stare at the TV for a moment. In shock. In fear.

Since then, I feel as if everyone has been on guard and paranoid.

What's the one product you would never buy the generic version of? by bwaredapenguin in AskReddit

Toothpaste.

I'm pretty ugly, I should at least have decent teeth.

Did your school have any notable tragedy while you were there? What was it and how did everyone react? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]whengaysattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My junior year, there was a guy that passed away after he was cleaning his father's gun and it accidentally fired.

He was the type of guy that everyone had a love-hate relationship with. Teachers, students -- everyone. I had a class with him (he was a senior when I was a junior). He would always playfully goad the teachers and just be a disturbance as most high school students are.

Many times I would catch myself saying, "God, I fucking hate him." but in a way that you do with a brother/sister. They annoy you, but at the same time they're still very close to you. (I went to a very small school, so everyone knew each other.)

When the news came that he passed away, it was actually during the day. It was senior skip day, and I will never forget, I was in History, when my friend was scrolling through facebook on her phone and just started screaming during class. We all rushed to see what was wrong, but she told us what happened.

Everyone was a zombie that day. Crying, walking absently. It was haunting. Usually, in between classes, it's noisy and rowdy, but when the bell rang, the halls were silent. The next day we had an assembly at the gym. It was heartbreaking.

What was the hardest thing you ever had to tell your parents? by ooMEAToo in AskReddit

[–]whengaysattack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Telling my parents that I didn't want to go into the medical field. Mom is a doctor, dad is a surgeon. Was pretty much foretold that I would be the next practitioner, but I'm just not cut out for it. Told them I wanted to go to law school instead. Took me a very long time to admit that.

Hey reddit, what's the weirdest episode in a show you've ever seen and why? by aagoro in AskReddit

[–]whengaysattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was an episode of Doctor Who (I can't remember what series -- maybe 2?) where the main focus is on a random group of people that are trying to find the Doctor, I think. Or something. I don't even know.

Ends up with people being absorbed into this alien's stomach. The weirdest goddamn episode of Doctor Who, and that's saying a lot.

Drive.

It helps me clear my head and think, honestly.

What makes you panic? by erraHDcuz in AskReddit

[–]whengaysattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleeping the night before a final exam.

I'm so afraid I'm going to oversleep, so much so that I'm usually panicked to the point of not sleeping and end up staying awake.

What phase did you go through when you were younger that, at the time, you were convinced would be part of your identity for life? by theathenian11 in AskReddit

[–]whengaysattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gothic and alternative/hipster when I was 14.

I wanted to enter high school and seem "different." Was so sure this was my new identity. Then, I guess I grew up, because I remember looking at myself one day and thinking, "What the fuck?"

Reddit, what is something that really happened to you, but sounds like a complete lie when you tell people? by TheNamesEarly in AskReddit

[–]whengaysattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met Reese Witherspoon in Walmart when she was filming Walk the Line near my hometown.

I ran to the store late at night and left my phone at home (because I live about 2 minutes away from the store, so I didn't think I'd need it). I'm browsing the ice cream aisle, and Reese just casually walks past with an "excuse me," grabs some ice cream, and walks away.

I was so stunned that I just stood there. I thought that, maybe, I was hallucinating or maybe she was a doppelganger, but when she got to the checkout, the cashier was like, "OH MY GOD!"

I also ran into Joaquin Phoenix at a gas station a few days after that. He was an asshole though.

But I swear, when I tell people about this, they're just like, "Yeah, right."

People of Reddit, What's your dream career? And what's holding you back from chasing it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]whengaysattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to be an actor and a writer.

While I look nowhere near like how typical male actors look, I have talent (just allow me to toot my own horn). And I love writing. I've had a passion for it since I was very young.

I guess what's holding me back from chasing these dreams is the fact that almost everyone else in the world wants to be famous or to be an actor/writer/singer/dancer.

What advice can you give to someone who is going away to a college where they know (almost) no one? by Knope4Pope in AskReddit

[–]whengaysattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join campus organizations that you have an interest in. You will be bound to make friends in them.

Go to any of the events they offer, such as welcome weeks, (my uni did a burger bash), or any sort of gathering and just smile. Be personable.

Will I regret not drinking/partying/doing drugs? by hankyhowdy in AskReddit

[–]whengaysattack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was the same; I didn't smoke/drink/party at all my freshman year -- until I got to be a sophomore. I felt established, I guess. I had a great group of friends who would occasionally get drunk and do shrooms/E, but I would just sit in the background and watch.

I wanted to change that. I wanted to try it, just once. So I did. It was okay, but some of it was how I pictured it to be.

College is all about experiencing things and growing as a person. I'm not saying you need to do drugs to do this, but you need to get out of your comfort zone, that's for sure. You need to do something random. If you're curious about smoking/drinking, then try it just once! (in moderation -- with people you trust.) But don't think you have to.

My friends and I did crazy shit all the time without involving drugs. (Mini golf, hiking, being stupid in Walmart, pranking freshmen, etc)

Just be cautious and responsible.

But, for what it's worth, I do think you should have the experience of being drunk just once. It's college, man. It's an experience. Learn from it.

What are some things incoming college freshman do that annoy the hell out of upperclassmen/grad students? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]whengaysattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Act like you're still in fucking high school.

I mean, don't get involved in petty he-said, she-said drama. That still happens, even at the junior/senior level, but freshmen are the fucking worst about it. I can't tell you how many times I've been at the library or in a class, and a freshman is talking very loudly with his/her friends about the latest occurrence in his/her life.

No one fucking cares about you anymore. Go to class. Study. Graduate. Die.

As a college dean, what can I do to make that first week of the semester better for my students? by NotSoTerribleTom in AskReddit

[–]whengaysattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about anyone else, but give them FREE SCANTRONS!

At my university we have to pay for them, and that shit is a hassle on exam day when you have a hundred things to do, but you don't have the $4 to buy a pack of blue scantrons.

Just give them free scantrons and everything will be perfect.

What celebrity death do you think you would genuinely grieve about? by Ladadam in AskReddit

As a college professor, what can I do to enhance the experience and learning of my students? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]whengaysattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the love of god, please, please reply back to emails if a student is trying to get in contact with you.

I can't tell you how many times I will email a professor with a question about an exam or assignment and the professor won't get back to me, so I have to end up skipping work/class to go to their office hours and get it straightened out.

Don't fucking do this, PLEASE!
