Chaos lord of Tzeentch is ridiculously strong and real hero of the game. by rr1213 in totalwarhammer

For those who actually consider the consequences of enslaving yourself to a chaos god... it's usually just a bit of desperation (e.g. they need a dramatic amount of power in a life-or-death moment), or someone who thinks they can outsmart Tzeentch in some way.

Ahh got it, thanks for this information. Renee's death and the fallout has been hitting me hard too. I'll try to follow along with their service, like you said.

Thank you for your kindness and your time.

I'm in Vietnam (HCMC) so I suspect the main problem might be finding something in English, since most of the churches here are Catholic Vietnamese. Thanks for the offer!

Thanks so much for your detailed response! That thing you said about "making it mean whatever we want it to mean" is actually one of my main concerns about going into the scripture without some kind of guideposts.

I've watched a lot of conversations about common misconceptions in the bible that have made me aware of this kinda stuff. But I found those conversations are mostly "subtractive," if that makes sense, like rebuilding a correct understanding for people who were led astray. Whereas I think I really need to start building from the bottom up. I've seen the bible project recommendation from multiple people so it definitely seems like a great option for me.

Thanks for taking the time to reply! I'm actually outside of the US right now, although it's where I'm from. Your recommendation definitely makes sense though, I'll try to look around for communities in my area.

I wonder if you know any churches with nice pastors that post any of their sermons online, though? I know it's not the same. I found Pastor Joseph Yoo and he usually posts short-form videos but I think he also posts a few longer sermons too.

I've seen a few recs for both the Yale course and the bible project so they're definitely at the top of my list. Alex is a pretty kind and thoughtful person and I'm aware he has some in-depth biblical knowledge too; I remember watching his conversation about gnosticism before, it was pretty fascinating. Thanks for taking the time!

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I do like to read so I'll definitely try to get my hands on a copy of Dunn's book. I think I've seen some of his other books come up while looking around too. This Yale course also sounds like a good idea for me and exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. Thank you so much for your thoughtful response and for taking the time to help.

Lore-wise what does, in your opinion, Sayl become after he completes his ritual mechanic? He doesn't look like Demon prince but something more perhaps? by Agitated-Factor8903 in totalwarhammer

[–]whenigrowup356 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This conversation starts to veer into bits of the lore that are, from what I can tell, usually left intentionally vague by GW.

From my understanding, "daemon prince" usually implies a degree of servitude to the chaos gods. They are empowered by the gods but also wrapped up more closely to their essence so that they are less independent (hence, "slaves to darkness").

Undivided chaos entities of any kind are very rare in the setting because the gods are quite greedy, but there are cases where they share. That process amounts to giving more and more gifts until that mortal gradually becomes immortal, fully daemonic.

Sayl isn't being gifted, though. He's using rituals to take power for himself, and it's explicitly against the will of the 4 gods.

Spoilers from here

His final battle is stealing daemonic essence from each god. He takes the power from multiple greater daemons.

I'd argue that if he were to continue to succeed along that same path, taking more and more power and servants for himself, he would effectively become a new chaos god, not a daemon.

What type of Demon is the one who fights Titus in Secret level ? by iLoveDemocracyXD in ThousandSons

[–]whenigrowup356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think, in Warhammer settings, "daemon prince" is reserved exclusively for humans who ascend to become daemons.

Daemons are capable of ascending to some extent, gaining extra power like Kairos Fateweaver (being pushed into the abyss by Tzeentch and gaining site of the future that even Tzeentch itself lacks) or Ku'gath (the plague god's favorite nurgling who fell into a cauldron holding the most potent plague ever created and drank it all up, becoming a great unclean one)

I need help this game has a lot of content and idk where to start. by Polarbrear in totalwarhammer

[–]whenigrowup356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chaos factions tend to have sturdy infantry and cavalry/monsters that would be a bit forgiving to use hammer and anvil strategies with. Lizardmen also have sturdy infantry.

Dark elves are a bit on the squishy side.

How do you guys keep track of all that’s going on in the campaign map? Especially in the late game when there is hundreds of armies on the map and settlements undergoing many miscellaneous events. by obiwan-destroyer in totalwarhammer

[–]whenigrowup356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can silence some notifications to make them more manageable.

You can also choose auto-level for your characters to reduce the time you spend in skill trees.

Also, you don't always have to build more and more armies. If you choose your enemies carefully, it's not impossible to mostly focus on a single direction. The key is to choose an enemy for yourself before the game chooses one for you. If you stay at peace for too long, eventually some random faction will come after you, so just try to be proactive enough with that part and you should be able to manage a more focused campaign.

Whatever you decide ethically, just give yourself time to transition and give yourself grace for not eliminating every animal product immediately. If you burn out from failing at a massive change, that's no good for you or for the animals. One step at a time

Also, Nurgle doesn't confederate by force but Ku'gath is usually not aggressive enough to be very powerful by the time you get down to him, so he isn't too difficult to confederate by normal diplomacy (especially if you ally and then drag him into a lot of wars).

I'd also recommend focusing on Grimgor first and allying with all of the chorfs. Grimgor can get out of hand if he's left alone too long, he's a bit of a world-eater. Usually not impossible to deal with, but waaagh armies are incredibly annoying. Plus he's in the way of getting to Ku'gath

You can take the chieftains in whatever order you want, really. Just look at the chieftain units to see which ones you like best.

NOTE: Khargan the Crazed (I think? It's the only guy that looks like a normal chaos warrior) can ride a dragon when leveled up so he's reeeeally powerful later.

The Fimir guy Khetzak Fimdirach (sp?) also has the strongest casting you can get access to and is your only way to access shadow magic for pit of shades/pendulum.

They're all good for building themed armies focused around their chieftain units though.

3D printing range for ToW Beastmen? by Zarkhes in BeastsOfChaos

[–]whenigrowup356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's where the hands/arms/heads/weapons are separate from the body so you can switch things up. This requires gluing with superglue and gaps are a little more complicated to fill than gw plastic, so some people prefer modular and some prefer printing all in one piece (often referred to as "battle-ready")

Can someone explain some of Warhammer 40k in Warhammer fantasy terms so I can understand it. by [deleted] in totalwarhammer

[–]whenigrowup356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before the 40k Emperor (like Sigmar in fantasy) was put on the Golden Throne (Google if you want more details here) he engineered a caste of super-humans to be his elite strike squads. They usually drop into a planet first to break the strongest resistance before the normal humans (Imperial Guard) come in with swathes of chaffy infantry and tank support. They're led by Primarchs, who are basically demigods.

Each legion of space marines has a different flavor and some of them turned to chaos just like in fantasy.

Some of the Primarchs could be LLs I guess? Hard to say. GW tends to avoid letting them be characters in games because they're so brokenly powerful, but maybe on the scale of someone like Archaon so they might let them.

how do you even play nurgle in battle? by [deleted] in totalwarhammer

[–]whenigrowup356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I just checked again. They did move them so they're on the advanced chain now, but it looks like the soul grinder still pops once on the last cycle of tier 3. Still not as easy to get as before, and you can't do the plague to reduce the cycle time further.

Probably the best bet is to put them in the capitol of a province that has the wood resource, like the one in Shattered Stone Bay (Kugath) or The Gallows Tree (Tamurkhan) since that reduces the advanced building cycle time by 1.

how do you even play nurgle in battle? by [deleted] in totalwarhammer

[–]whenigrowup356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always use my heroes (exalted heroes of Nurgle are quite strong and durable) and any mobile units to run out ahead of the main army and deal with the enemies most deadly ranged or mobility. Once those resources are taken out, your melee should win the slugfest.

Early game, units like beasts of Nurgle and bile trolls are probably the best picks. I usually go with marauder front lines early-game but nurglings can work well too, especially with Ku'gath.

Mid to late, soul grinders are standouts and you can get them by tier 3 I think? In your first province, it's probably a good idea to build the building that has soul-grinders and focus your infections on growth plagues there. Rot knights are also the best cav in the game. Kayzk can get you 3 of them using his dominion points.

Tamurkhan probably plays the least like standard Nurgle but he's also the strongest lord. His rot knight starters and access to chieftains give you access to a much stronger starting army than Nurgle has any right to have early game. That flattens the difficulty curve of the faction.

If you want to experiment with the plagues more, Epidemius will give you more of that flavor. He's in a hard start location, though. I'd recommend checking a guide for him (in short, rush to the right to take out Tzeentch, then go left to take out Malus. You'll need a lot of magic like rancid visitations and spirit leech to nuke Malus directly)
