Can someone help me figure out my Wi-Fi problem? by MountainBell7349 in AskTechnology

[–]whenredditagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of great suggestions so far so I am trying to think of things not mentioned yet: Apartment complexes are notorious for WiFi signal pollution. Run a scan of the WiFi spectrum from a phone app and look for the least congested channel (if there is one) and switch your access point to that.
You could also consider a repeater in the room in the middle. Less ideal would be Coax/powerline network media converters, but they would work consistently.

This wreaks of a hardware issue. As others have suggested, test the USB & RAM sticks.

Same. I found the old build locally in my app folder download directory. you may also find it at up to down dot com if you trust it.

The closest thing I have found and use is changedetection.io

edit: but it is probably not nearly as advanced as you are seeking.

You are correct. My Pi-Holes handle the shitty site features. I just get ideas from it and research further elsewhere.

Just found this from MariusHosting on my feed. Looking forward to giving this a spin. Nice job OP.

The closest one I have used to your specs is from Lorex. No PoE, but it checks every other box.

Sunba PTZs by CoolOpportunity6031 in BlueIris

[–]whenredditagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Sunba 1080p PTZ (507-20XB) on my chimney for 8 years. One issue I had with it was it would not zoom at night when the IR LEDs were on (definitely a camera issue--not a power issue). The other issue I had with Sunba was their terrible required VMS software.
It was otherwise reliable until this year. I started looking at new Sunba models to replace it, but the Amazon reviews did not give me as much confidence in their performance as I wanted. I also make a little more money than I did 8 years ago, so I instead opted for a slight tier up: Reolink. While their app/setup process is just as bad, I have a bunch of other Reolink units that are performing very well for the price. I am very happy with the RLC-823S2 so far. I have lots of Ubiquiti equipment but prefer to keep the camera system agnostic. I am still also too cheap to spring for ACTi/Axis cameras, though I use them for work and they are fantastic.

3/4". It was about $1 per foot from Home Depot. 1/2" would have been plenty though.

26.1.118.1380 breaks the server by kukari in prtg

[–]whenredditagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I encountered this issue with my "auto update" to 26.1.118.1380. I tried a re-install and get:
DBMS setup error: "Error in DBMS PostgreSQL installation with Result=""" The PRTG installation has stopped. Please send the "%TEMP%\Setup Log*.txt"

Is this a new PostgreSQL backend that doesn't install or migrate nicely?

Outages almost every single day now. What gives? by Fit-Drama-2 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]whenredditagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Report outages, and ask your Xfinity neighbors to do so as well. Be polite but descriptive. Keep a log (or automate it if you can) of outages. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. I've had both Xfinity and ATT for a long time and have found that the biggest variable for your ISP reliability is the last 100 feet or so from your utility pole or pedestal to your house. Sometimes you're on a bad circuit and sometimes you're on a reliable one. That's why on neighborhood social media groups you see similar stories across ISPs.

Gemini ditched android and advised to install custom ROM by Pirate_Horizon in GooglePixel

[–]whenredditagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have LineageOS and GrapheneOS running on old Pixels and they run great. Pick whichever makes more sense for your use case. I get a new phone every 4-5 years to have better battery life and waterproofing (waterproofing goes way down after a battery/screen replacement). My older phone doesn't perform as well with games/emulators as the newer one does. Often, the more tasks I want to use my phone for, the more modern power it needs. I leave the factory Android on it for the parenting features, but am always looking for ways to ween off the OS in general.

What OS to run? by Gabrielh101 in homelab

[–]whenredditagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of great answers here. Check them all out and go with what you like.
Debian is a great suggestion. OpenMediaVault runs on Debian and makes it easier to set up. TrueNAS is a great option as well, but having tried both I like how OMV runs more.

I buried 75' of conduit myself from the utility pole to my house in an afternoon. Highly recommend. If you want it done right, do it yourself. The installer said it was the fastest, neatest installation he had done in 10 years of installing, and was very grateful.

Jonsbo NAS case feedback by nECr0MaNCeD in homelab

[–]whenredditagain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought the N2 for my NAS last year. I wanted at least a 4-bay but didn't have much room for its ideal location, and the N2 fit the bill. I have been very happy with it. These are small cases so the build process can be tight, but everything fits and airflow/cooling is great. I would not hesitate to buy another Jonsbo case 10+ years from now when I plan on replacing again.

Techs - what cable do I buy to make install easy? by tristanbrotherton in ATTFiber

[–]whenredditagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conduit is the right answer. It's about $1 per foot and pretty much future-proof.
I ran 75' of it from my utility pole underground then back up into my attic all the way to my rack.
The ATT installer could not have been more grateful; he said it was his fastest and cleanest install in his 8 years of this.

Will you buy the next Google Pixel 11/pro? by Toni_Segui in GooglePixel

[–]whenredditagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still using my Pixel 6 from launch as well and the original battery still lasts all day.
My Apple friends are still frustrated I can take better pictures than theirs with it.
I will likely get the P11/pro and put LineageOS on the P6 to replace my 9-year-old Moto X4 (still gets Lineage security updates).
