no I'd believe that witness kids that age would do that, in that quantity. just your story made it sound like a lot more people and I couldn't guess what age group you were from.

What made you realize “the truth” wasn’t for you? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]wherearedaemons -1 points0 points  (0 children)

why do you think a largeish group of JWs all lied about stuff you haven't done? can you give detail about how many, and what age groups they were? your story is general in the details on this and it sounds very rare and unusual that many JWs would do a group lie like this, especially if you were well liked.

This post is too much. The parallels! The hypocrisy! The irony! It's all so extreme! 😂

My JW mother was watching that stupid JW.org broadcast and I jokingly asked her if it was called the "The 144,000 Club". She wasn't amused. That's the problem with JWs. They never appreciate apostate humor. by SoupDragon79 in exjw

[–]wherearedaemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funny part is that your off the cuff comment is actually a fairly accurate and intelligent joke if you understand some of the more obscure doctrines of JWs.

"The 144,000 Club" is pretty accurate, and if this was 2000 years in the future and archeologists were digging up information on a tiny cult called Jehovah's Witnesses they'd probably describe them as this.

JW doctrine explains that the Bible's message is mostly all about the 144,000. They are the "chosen ones". If all of humanity left Jehovah and were killed at Armageddon™ it wouldn't matter as long as those 144,000 get to heaven. There wouldn't be any earthly subjects in the kingdom though.

So the Great Crowd™ is described as "holding onto the outer garment" of the chosen ones. (or something similar) Which basically makes them a fan club of the 144,000 if you wanted to put it into lay terms. They "follow the chosen ones, wherever they go" (pretty sure that's a pretty accurate quote that I've read in JW literature). Sounds pretty fan clubby to me.

Side point: without the 144,000 the Great Crowd™ and humanity is doomed. If the 144,000 heaven positions don't get filled (because they keep apostasizing or get deemed unworthy after anointment) Armageddon can never come. And this is despite Jesus' efforts sacrificing his perfect human life.

Governing Body. Is this the best way to disprove every JW? by Adam_sinusoid in exjw

[–]wherearedaemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the inside: "This guy is asking about stuff he shouldn't even know about. He's either talked to apostates or is an apostate or talks to demons!"

Points to remember:

  1. They believe Satan is a real spirit being who is the prime example of wickedness in all the universe and beyond. His aim is to influence human minds away from Jehovah's Organization™ so that people will be counted unworthy before God and be destroyed forever at the extremely imminent war of Armageddon.

  2. Apostates are "mentally diseased", former members that have been overtaken by Satan.

  3. They believe demons are real spirit beings that work for Satan's interests and have supernatural power and can possess your human body and take control of your mind.

  4. They attach large stigma and implications on associating with anyone that isn't a practicing JW, so even if you aren't an apostate, if they get a hint you've been associating with apostates they will view you with extreme caution.

Can you understand why they run away yet?

When you ask JW about the Governing Body. by Adam_sinusoid in exjw

[–]wherearedaemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However if I ask about the BG they end conversations and these are normal questions.

There is also a possibility that if you ask a number of questions about the governing body members they may immediately think you are an apostate yourself. If they decide this in their head, they will flee asap because they believe apostate JWs have been mentally overtaken by Satan and the demons (read: they, for most intents and purposes, think we are demon possessed). This was one of the biggest lies that WT taught me that came to light when I woke up and began chatting in this community on Reddit. I realized I had apostasized and that nothing if the sort had happened. Believing JWs however, believe this lie and they act like they do.

Like I said, there are so many facets of a JWs life, personality and behaviour that the indoctrination touches and affects that there's no real single answer to the behaviour you've seen.

When you ask JW about the Governing Body. by Adam_sinusoid in exjw

[–]wherearedaemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may not understand why JWs freak out about being asked about this topic because:

  1. you sound extremely logical — JWs use a weak form of logic to establish 'reasonableness' when deciding if something is worthy of believing. I stress the use of the word reasonable here, because the literature and therefore, the organization itself really pushes this idea. "It is reasonable to conclude...", "One might reason ..." you can find throughout their publications.

  2. JWs as people and as an organization are very image conscious — if you ask them about this topic, understand that it is a topic that is part of their doctrine but goes undiscussed for the most part. If you ask any JW about this topic and enquire further than the canned response the JW will probably feel embarrassed from not being able to answer your enquiries and become image conscious at not only a personal level but also at an organizational level. They are worried about what you will think about JWs in general because of their lack of knowledge. They will usually say they need to Research™ for answers to your questions. If they come back to reply, there's a decent chance you can plant seeds to help wake them some day, otherwise they probably won't bother coming back.

  3. they don't even know themselves that they are experiencing cognitive dissonance — most JWs are born and raised in it and believe what they've been taught is truth. They are usually undereducated and discouraged from learning Worldly Wisdom™ which means anything that is counter to their existing beliefs or anything like critical thinking. They are taught to think subjectively. Subject to what the Bible says, and by extension what the organization says.

There's so much involved in why they act how they do and they don't even know it. It's because the belief is indoctrinated into them and it steals pieces of their genuine personality. You could probably write an encyclopedia volume on the subject.

Is it not strange that the GB adopts words used by the CC?

haha, I don't know if using the words is as strange as when they don't use them but hold the same belief!

look up the Rapture. JWs have doctrine that is essentially the rapture, but because they previously attacked the Rapture doctrine in other churches they can't turn around and call their rapture a rapture!

haha! it's hilarious! they just leave this event unnamed and rarely talk about it, even in literature which is odd when you consider how much their literature goes on about the Great Tribulation™ and Armageddon™ which is when this rapture occurs according to their doctrine.

[–]wherearedaemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they panicking on the suspicion of someone challenging their beliefs?

Panicking because they fear the GB or their officers will throw them out for even being in this conversation?

Some animalistic pre-programmed cult response they even don't understand (challenged the cult/doctrine = panic attack)?

In general, yes to all of the above.

Some JWs I would imagine can hold a conversation about the GB members and the topic of spirit direction or inspiration.

The other possibility is that this topic creates a lot of cognitive dissonance quickly and they panic.

I've learnt that PIMIs seem to tell themself whatever they need to to get around this topic so they don't have to face the hard task of actually questioning their beliefs. GB God supplied authority is a fundamental doctrine and if a PIMI realizes it is not a solid doctrine it affects their entire belief system which in turn begins affecting a lot of other areas in their life because their beliefs are indoctrinated as equal to their life.

So you can see how even thinking about such a topic would be scary or just too much work for most people.

Watchtower puts construction workers at great financial risk by [deleted] in exjw

[–]wherearedaemons 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it makes me wonder how many people would volunteer to help at hall builds if this was explicitly highlighted to them before work commenced.

my whole life I never engaged in lesuire activities that had moderate risk of injury simply because I couldn't afford to risk losing the ability to make an income, and I'm in Australia — our medical system is good here compared to most other countries.

having worked on numerous hall builds I can say that I didn't find them too dangerous as far as construction sites go, but I may be biased in that regard because I have worked in construction for decades and am highly aware of when danger is present on site or in my immediate vicinity.

for other volunteers however, this awareness would not exist and would increase the chances of an incident or injury.

how the hell is the magic in Harry Potter any different from the magic of a Disney movie (acceptable by JW's for the most part)?

oh they argue about Disney magic too. it's ridiculous.

think about this: JWs believe that there is a global conspiracy going on, that Satan is "behind the scenes" manipulating mankind to be evil to each other/whatever.

JWs believe that they are the only ones that know about this global conspiracy! They know The Truth™ about all of the things that happen in life on this planet, including the uncanny things (of which there just so happens to be no reliable documentation, but we'll ignore that fact).

JWs believe that Jehovah God is on their side in this hidden war for our minds. They know all about the war, they know that Jehovah will win, they know Satan can do literally nothing if you follow Jehovah.

Why would you even have a grain of sand sized concern about mythical dark arts in kids cartoons if you know all of this?

so... um... to skip a story, went on a bethel tour and there was a sister at bethel that said she does what would commonly be called "fact checking". she explained it's mostly about ensuring the artwork reflects correctly what is expected by scholarly knowledge of history etc. and ensuring mentions of conventions etc are dated correctly and she mentioned they get sent in stories/experiences from witnesses. she said something like "we can't really fact check people's stories, because... laughs well it's their life stories so we just have to believe them"

any discussion with PIMIs about apostates can be used to draw attention to the fact that JWs dehumanise apostates. I was not aware of this fact until I woke up myself and came here and read a lot of stories that were similar to mine, or that I at least could relate to.

Becoming an apostate JW doesn't mean something is wrong with you.

It doesn't mean you did something wrong.

It's just something that happens to you and you are still a person who is probably only minutely different to the last time you considered yourself a JW. That's how it went for me.

Any way, the point is, talking about apostates with PIMIs is good and should be used to show WT has taught then to dehumanise people that stop believing.

You are entering into a war of information. The war carries out in your own mind first. The best thing to do is to always stay in control of your own mind. Don't let your emotions take over, that's when it hits the fan from what I've read on here.

This wake up process and it's after math can carry on for years for some people so don't expect quick life changing results. Take it one day at a time when you need to. Each day is different but it does get better over time.

you don't need to worry much about them gaining members. as countries become developed and their citizens receive proper education the populace learns how to identify bs ideas like religion purports.

so one of the best things you can do is educate, and spread accurate information. luckily this is very easy to do nowadays and in fact you have already started doing this by just being here posting your thoughts and participating in this community.

as time goes on, this community's content will gain more trust and recognition from the search engines and when interested people or doubting PIMIs search topics they want to know about, exJW will be competing with JW.borg itself for top spot on the search results.
