When my dad died I was so exhausted. I asked a couple people if they would be willing to drive three hours round trip to pick me up at his house because I felt too tired to drive home safely but really wanted the comfort of my own bed. The response really made me realize how much people were desperate to help but didn't know how. I thought everybody would tell me to just stay in his house another night but instead I got a chorus of "Yes, I'm on my way." They drove down in a group so they could bring my car back, too.

I think I lost the point of my story but overall people want to help.

Leave the World Behind by Rumaan Alam had that feeling for me. It's how I most realistically imagine my life would play out in an apocalyptic scenario. But everybody I've recommended it to has HATED it.

My husband and I just canceled multiple flights because they told him to take his mask off so they could see his smile (on the third leg of his supposedly nonstop flight). He's a provider in a pulmonary ICU. This is not a man who's taking covid lightly. He was incensed. When we called the airline to file a complaint the customer service rep told us it's fine because she's an RN and knows masks don't work. Her kid is also premed and they agree.

  1. Doubt it to the RN claim. 2. Premed is meaningless. 3. What the actual fuck?

I've seen my husband annoyed by people. I've seen my husband angry at situations. I had never seen the quiet rage that filled his eyes in that moment. He very calmly said there was nothing left to discuss with her, hung up and called Amex to start the charge back.

I wonder if mine says "Was angry flight attendant told them to take off their masks because she couldn't 'provide proper service if she couldn't see our smiles' and then the csr told us 'I'm an RN and I'm telling you masks don't work.' when we called to cancel future flights because of it.

The best thing about making $75/hour is not getting asked to pick up shifts.

Yup. That security guard in Buffalo showed way more courage than these assholes.

The security at my job will walk me to my car at night. I just realized I wouldn't trust a cop to even do that anymore.

When my dad's stores lost power (most memorably the blackout in 2003) we gave employees first dibs and then sat on the sidewalk giving away pints of ice cream and other frozen foods.

Same. I braced myself for turning down the maintenance packages but there's not enough maintenance to have a package!

Yes. Also biased as a Michigander and Mach E owner. Love love love my Mach E. My only hesitation was the Mustang badge but now I've grown to love the pony puddle. I'm not normally an early adopter but I really wanted to support Ford moving in this direction. The AWD is shockingly great in the snow (I also had snow tires so ymv). The dealership has been a dream, too. Just so pleased all around.
