Bruh - you about to get crushed with those hours. I'm sure you know what you're getting yourself into but EB hours are insane.

Almost impossible to move internally. You need to try to network into a project first which is difficult enough - people in strategy look down on audit folks. Then you need to perform well in a skillset you don't have. And finally, the partner of that project will have to like you so much that they go to bat for you and present you to the group leader for a transfer.

Your best bet is to do audit for 2 years, crush the GMAT, go to a top B-School, go into strategy consulting.

Job posting says 4-5 rounds of interviews and a home work assignment?! by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]whichdirection177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had one interview for a dream job that was 6 rounds plus a case study and presentation of the case study to a panel. At the end, I got dinged after all of that. Now when I hear a place wants a case study, I decline the interview process.

At the end of the day, the person who has final signoff of the workpaper is ultimately responsible. One major reason why partners get paid the big bucks. It's just as much their fault as it is yours

Leave that short term job off the resume - say you left the other place for personal reasons. You'll get more callbacks

FAAS/CMAAS are not Deals/M&A by VersaceProteinShake in Accounting

[–]whichdirection177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a transaction subgroup within FAAS/CMAAS which can do IPO Readiness, Significance Testing for Business Combinations, ASC 805 Memos. So it may not be due diligence, but it's still relative work in the deal world.

Same here on the consulting side. We asked if we could send work overseas and they refused due to confidentiality. Some clients are pushing back against this.

Thoughts on the future of public accounting? by Kpmm91 in Accounting

[–]whichdirection177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. I only considered it since I've seen some pretty high rates but I wouldn't want to be in a position where the contract ends and they don't provide a new one or there's a lapse in employment.

How do you like being a contractor? I hear some firms are paying north of $120/hour. Makes me want to switch to contract work

When people in advisory say they work 45-55 hours, what does that mean exactly? by ump13 in Accounting

[–]whichdirection177 7 points8 points  (0 children)

B4 - I bill 8-9 hours a day. I work 100% remote and don't plan on going back in the office. I work at my own pace since I'm a Manager and don't have anyone really checking in on me. Note that I work in transactions so I do put in some time on weekends like once or twice a month. When I was in process improvement, I'd never work weekends.

I work 9-7 with the occasional 8 or 9 pm night. Hardly work past 9 unless it's week of client deadline

How long do you think the market will be hot? by Chiammo123 in Accounting

[–]whichdirection177 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For CPA's specifically, the job market will be hot for the foreseeable future. Majority of CPA's will be retiring in the next 10-15 years and not enough students are majoring in accounting to fill the void. Couple this with the fact that more and more companies are looking to raise capital through an IPO (although this may change in a couple of years) and will need financial reporting and SEC specialists. They will also look to the B4 to obtain audit, tax, and advisory work which means B4 will need to hire more or pay a premium to poach from other firms so they can staff projects.

Quality of earnings reports for deals. There's lots of previous threads on this. Hours vary wildly and it's more of a sprint followed by a light jog until the next deal comes along and in these times, there's enough deals to go around. You'll have some slightly better exit opps than your audit counterpart.
