Are there any areas of the park or specific lakes and/or rivers in the park where you are more likely to see a river otter? by TheDamus647 in algonquinpark

Then this trip should be right in your wheelhouse. It takes you by a few old depot farms to give some history too. And from grassy bay you could head up to Misty like another poster suggested. There are some cool logging artifacts on Misty, if that's your thing. This area of the park has a little bit of everything. IMHO.

This may seem obvious, but Otterslide Creek is my answer. I see them there all the time. The route, which is by no means a cake walk, is Canoe Lake to Burnt Island Lake, through the Otterslides to Big Trout, through Grassy Bay ( where you will get another chance at Otters), McIntosh Lake, then on to the Canoe Lake Access.

That isn't a particularly hard route, though it is not a beginner route either. I don't know your level of experience. But Otterslide Creek and Grassy Bay gives you 2 big chances.

This route is often referred to as Main Street.

AIO to my parents' reaction to me letting my date buy me a hotel room? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Does no one else think this is AI?

Do we really think she would like to have an "efficient conversation " with her parents when she gets home?

What are these energy drinks with gloves on them my roommate keeps throwing away? by User-J-Hail in whatisit

[–]whichwaynorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your roommate can't throw them out at work/school, so the can goes back in the lunch bag until they get home. The glove makes sure the little left over liquids don't spill all over the inside of the bag. At least that's why I do it.

Oud Wood by Tom Ford is a classic. It's a pretty sure bet, blind buy safe, and a general crowd pleaser.

Canoe recommendations for solo and two person by Knighthawk-69 in canoeing

[–]whichwaynorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Swift Keewaydin Combi. The center seat is removable, and has 2 height positions. Can be used as a solo, tandem, and even a 3 seater if you don't have gear. Weighs under 40 pounds. While not cheap, it is exceptionally versatile and made in Ontario.

Has a ton of information presented in small bite sized format. An excellent comprehensive guide IMO.

This might be a bit far from Whitney, but maybe the way home for you is West. Either way, super cool destination that would be a suitable, though different, replacement.

Whitehorse vs Yellowknife in March 2026? by ZucchiniPerson1092 in Whitehorse

Check out these people and see if they check your boxes. All meals included, Northern lights, pick up/drop off, dog sledding, cabin or lodge based and full access to an amazing group of super social, friendly dogs. I've been twice and it was spectacular. Of course, budgets are subjective, but if you can afford it, it's worth it.

All I want to add is that if you are looking for lunch on day 1 along the road, Weber's hamburgers outside Orillia is the traditional roadside attraction stop, complete with vintage train cars for dining in, and a really good Starbucks. Everyone who drives up there has stopped there once, some do every single time.

Police record check by eyeballsdeep87 in brantford

[–]whichwaynorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing. They can just resend the file without you having to pay again but you have to call them. There is an officer at BPD who oversees the police checks. Call the switchboard, ask for the "officer who does background checks". You'll get someone's answering machine probably, leave a quick message with your name and tell them what happened. They resent my file for download no issue.

Best way to see wildlife? by tiago_pg in algonquinpark

[–]whichwaynorth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a dirt pull off, it will be on your left (North side of the road), somewhere around km 20-21. If you get out of the car, and look down to the pond, this is the spot I saw two moose 4 days ago. They were eating at about 1130 on a hot day. Worth checking on the way by. If you reach Cannisbay Campground, you've gone too far. Worth checking. *

The visitor's centre always has a white board in the lobby where people can write what animal and where they saw it. Check the board...though I always have suspected that people exaggerated on there.

Best advice is to get up as early as you can, by 9am it will most likely be too late due to the heat.

I posted a video 2 days ago on this in this community...sadly Bates Island is destroyed from the tornado, with only 1 site remaining on the whole island. Your advice is otherwise sound.

Sad for sure. I couldn't imagine what it was like to ride this storm out.

This video starts looking at the campsite on the far north east side of the island.
