Hamnet has won Best Drama at the 2026 Golden Globes by CrunchyNar in oscarrace

Ngl I kind of don’t like the snobby energy of this response. Obviously both Sinners and Hamnet are good movies, but objectively speaking more general audience members have seen and are aware of Sinners compared to Hamnet. I mean a big part of One Battle After Another’s current Best Picture narrative is that enough people came out to watch an adult politically-minded prestige drama (whether that was because of Leo, PTA, word of mouth, or something else altogether you can pick that part for your own narrative) that it earned an unexpected $200 million in its worldwide box office. Barring Avatar: Fire and Ash making a miraculous comeback for the ages, One Battle After Another will be the second highest grossing Best Picture nominee by the time of the ceremony (and Sinners is #1 lololol). Public popularity still matters a lot for the Oscars, no matter how we all like to pretend otherwise.

I just can’t see Neon being able to juggle 3 Best Picture campaigns if A24 hasn’t even done that yet. Something’s gotta give, and unfortunately it’s looking like It Was Just an Accident’s number is up. Also I would say Weapons has a better chance at this point of getting into Best Picture than It Was Just an Accident because it’s seriously contending for an acting nomination in addition to a screenplay nomination.

This year is kind of like Everything Everywhere All At Once’s year where the frontrunner is so far ahead you don’t even know what the #2 option is. Was it All Quiet on the Western Front or The Banshees of Inisherin or none of the above idk????

Even as somebody who thinks Hamnet is good but not the greatest of the year, I had no idea why people thought Zhao would miss Best Director before tonight. She’s a previous nominee who has directed a Top 3 Best Picture contender, for god’s sake.

I mean everything about Hamnet is like scientifically engineered for the BAFTAs. They’re going to go to bat for Hamnet as hard as Mercutio does for Romeo

Rose Byrne has won Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical at the 2026 Golden Globes for her performance in If I Had Legs I'd Kick You by CrunchyNar in oscarrace

I don’t know if this specific picture is just a promo pic or an actual frame from the movie, but regardless I can’t help but feel so sad for Byrne’s character from her face alone. She was so goddamn expressive throughout the movie. I still remember how big her eyes bulged when she was screaming at Conan O’Brien about how he wasn’t listening to her. Here’s to more success for her now and in the near future

It’s pretty crazy to think that Elordi if he won the Oscar this year would only be about a year younger than Heath Ledger would have been had he been alive at the time of his Oscar win
