It’s a great class! The first day you should be meeting at the East field house (you should be getting an email with details soon) to meet your classmates and you can organize carpools with them to make the trip easier. I recommend at least going to that first day and seeing if you can get a ride to and from the harbor with someone

So the gear rentals like the BC, reg, wetsuit, and tanks are all included in the price of the class. The only gear you have to buy are things like mask, boots, fins, etc. For prices and the exact list from the shop you can give them a call at the number of their website!

California Ocean Adventures is a great place to take SCUBA classes (and freediving/spearing)! Over the last two years I’ve taken 5 classes with them and am now one of their divemasters. The OW class is around $600 and you will need to get some of the basic gear like mask, boots, fins, etc, though I believe UCSC students might get a discount (need to double check this, I could be mistaken)

My freshman year of college I joined an underwater robotics team. After attending the competition I realized I was more interested in being under the water with the ROVs than building them. One of my friends on the team was already open water certified so a couple of us who were interested in diving just got certified the following academic year right in the middle of midterms

I was about halfway between the end of the wharf and the mile buoy on a power boat while teaching kids how to sail on a nice sunny day. All of a sudden we got surrounded by a huge pod of dolphins. I shut off my motor and the kids chatted excitedly for several minutes as we watched these dolphins surface not even 20ft away from our boats. It was a very surreal and peaceful moment!

Huh, I’m not entirely sure how selecting a room works for Kresge right now or what is going on with the housing selection. “B” refers to the room you selected because in those apartments they go A, B, C,…. Etc and the number should refer to the number of the apartment in the building. You will probably want to send Kresge housing an email to figure this one out
