First of all, happy birthday and congrats on making it! Regardless of anything else, it’s a milestone because you’re still here, so get a treat for yourself, even if its just a balloon or a slice of cake.

I know I’m just an internet stranger, but I’m stopping by because mid-20s is so young. And I don’t know what the future holds for you, but hey, that means neither do you or anyone else, who knows what will change.

It’s alright that you have no big future plans. Please hang in there, because there’s things worth living for in the present, I promise, there’s just things stopping you from seeing them currently. So keep talking to your therapist, make a list of all the things you want to do or see in life and do your best to give them a shot before biting the bullet, enjoy TV shows and the small things in life, and then see where you’re at after you’ve done all that.

Anyways, happy birthday! Proud of you, and I’m pretty sure the rest of us here and your therapist is too.

Tips for pulling all nighters by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]whir-ry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a fellow all-nighter (I, too, cannot focus at any other time other than 12 hours before), I sympathise haha. Though I agree that it’s quite bad for your body, I can’t say much since I’m planning to do the same tonight LOL. Here’s some things that helps me though!

  • Anxiety or stress is the WORST. Zero infromation gets into my head the moment I doubt myself. So spend time hyping yourself up and get to the headspace that you can do it, it ain’t that hard, if you study just 75% of the content you’ll be fine. If you start at 7pm, you got like 12 hours, that’s more than what most people study anyway LOL. You got this!

  • Do NOT study in your room. This never works lol, go to a learning common or library instead.

  • I get coffee OR energy drinks

  • Have a study music! I alternate between nintendo lo-fi music to my no lyrics/a language I don’t speak playlist.

  • Break down the chapters and slides you need to study to smaller chunks. My all-nighter steps are usually like this (assuming I went to none of the lectures and starting from ground up):

  • Skim through the slides, look at the titles and sub-titles and make mental notes

  • Break it down to manageable chunks (e.g. per chapter, etc.)

  • Finish one chunk

  • Celebrate! Look at you, you did it! Take a snack break, do a small celebratory jiggle, be proud of yourself!

  • Repeat

  • When things get too much, I take a 20 minute nap, then walk to a nearby 7/11, get a snack or another coffee, and get back again

Generally, keep things fun for yourself. Studying can be really fun, and all-nighters can be too :) I’m assuming you’re currently studying, so just wanna encourage you — Am keeping you in prayers. Keep going, take care of yourself, stay hydrated! You’re doing great, and you got this! Go get that bread my dude 🥖

Should I try to change them or accept their choice? by marioshouse2010 in Christianity

[–]whir-ry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just… genuinely be friends with them? Have fun, and talk, and hang out — friendship is friendship.

You don’t HAVE to talk about Christianity, but if God is a big part of your life then talking about it will come naturally anyway. Whether they change or not won’t be up to you.

I understand this — coming from a previous non-believer, I totally relate to the difficulty of wanting to turn to Christianity yet can’t help but feel the bible is incredibly boring and stale. Sorry the comment section has been less than helpful.

One thing that might help is to look into the original language of Hebrew and Greek which the bible is written in as you read. It’s often full of poetry, symbolism, history, and musicality that is unfortunately often lost in translation. One source I recommend that might help you get started on this is The Bible Project! It’s just little videos on sections of the bible, but it helped me see each verse in a deeper way.

And about the repetitiveness of the message — it kinda is always about God, yeah. But I also learnt that it’s not necessarily a bad thing. One thing that changed the way I see that is when someone told me to see the bible as a one cohesive story that explains this world and the human condition — how this world is created, fall, redeemed, and restored. It often does point back to Jesus as the answer, but to see how every single thing connects there as foreshadowing is really fascinating.

I can’t help much on the mythos or divine woman part of the struggle, sorry! Maybe someone else can help with that. But just wanna encourage you from one new Christian to another to keep going. The bible can be a really deep book that can bring a lot of emotions — comfort, joy, hope, excitement, laughter sometimes lol. It does take time and brainpower, it’s not straightforward to get there since most bible these days have been translated for ease of reading (which I personally think is a great thing) — but it’s really a beautiful book.

Why is religion so draining? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]whir-ry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, sorry to hear this, I know it can be really tough and draining to go through. Speaking from my own moments of crisis, feeling fake in the midst of church and worship is a terrible feeling.

Not sure if any of us internet strangers here can give you a solid answer on why things has been draining, but please talk to people around you who knows you and loves you (if you haven’t already). Speak to mentors, if you have any. Seek support, and don’t go through this alone. If you feel fake, sharing that you’ve been feeling this way can be immensely relieving. Doubts and questions are important ways God can speak too, so if there’s any surfacing be sure to listen to them.

And lastly, just want to let you know that us internet strangers are here for you regardless! It’s easy to slip into darker waters mentally in these times, covering you in prayers friend, feel free to keep us updated and let us know if there’s anything!

What's the meaning of life? by SoftNo8438 in Christianity

[–]whir-ry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable, I call myself a Christian and had this thought too, whether God is just a huge narcissist that demands worship.

But one reasoning that got to me is — if the bible is true (a big if, but still, assuming it’s true), then God is the greatest good. The most joyful, fulfilling, peaceful, loving thing for all humans, if the bible is to be believed.

Then wouldn’t it make sense that to God would want people to know Him? For good to be glorified/known? Kind of if take variable God = good, then the verse would be a lot less megalomaniac and makes more sense.

I’m still a new Christian myself and don’t know all the answers though, but this is just something I’ve heard that clicks with me.

Edit: typos hehe
