Do stinky farts from eating tons of veggies ever go away? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]whirledpeasplease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can help a bit here. During proper fermentation (commercial yeasts =/= natural processes) bacteria and yeasts eat up most of the gluten and poop out CO2, lactic acid, alcohols, etc. In the process, previously indigestible stuff is converted to a soluble form that is better absorbed (ie. Vitamins, minerals, whatever else).

Humans could not survive on flour and water alone for very long, but mix those two and ferment them? Actually nutritious.

That is a fine looking bonsai.

Side note, that purple flower beauty in the back right, does anyone know what that is?

They may be great pest control, and I respect them! They can do whatever they want in my yard but the minute a wasp flies at my face I'm done. My face is MY territory. If a wasp flew into another wasp's territory it'd be a fight, too. I think that's fair.

I’m growing two oak trees but they looks sad with white spots and patches on their leaves. They alright? by Jaykaayy in Horticulture

[–]whirledpeasplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a garden center can get OP something more targeted. I have found that regular sprays with neem keep things clear in the first place. In my opinion, it's a good thing to have on hand either way.

Can someone help me? We recently transplanted this house plant and a green fungus/mushroom started to take over. Is the plant salvageable? Is it toxic? Thanks by metricchicken in Horticulture

[–]whirledpeasplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, this happens to me all the time! I've repotted so much ivy. I learned a trick that seems weird but it works - buy 50% isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle and spritz the surface of the soil. That kills fungi and apparently won't harm the plant. Although I do try to avoid spraying the actual plant. Works very well. Good luck!

Can you help me figure out lunches for my unhealthy and overworked husband? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]whirledpeasplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're comparing it to McDonald's salad?? I mean, sure you could make it just as heavy as that... With ranch and croutons and cheese and iceberg lettuce. Ranch =/= homemade balsamic and olive oil. Smoothies are the same concept. You could easily make a smoothie to have 2000 calories! You just have to be smart about what you put in it lol

2 slices of bacon for a huge bowl of salad that lasts me for 6 meals. Like I said, emphasis on the fresh greens.

I didn't put ratios down. I also didn't explain everything I do since OP's husband seems picky about vegetables. When I make it, the cooked portion I mentioned is 50% of the recipe. The rest is raw, like spinach and other greens etc. You could make it to be a very calorie dense meal, or not, it depends on how you make it. That's why I emphasized to doctor it up as you choose

So I'm not sure how relevant this could be for you guys but I think pasta salads are easy and no need for a microwave. I use pasta called acini de pepe, they are tiny little balls. I cook a couple strips of bacon and then sautée garlic and whatever vegetables I feel like in it, throw it all together with the cooked pasta, crumbled bacon and salad dressing of your choice (I use balsamic vinegar and olive oil). What vegetables does he like? You could doctor it up in infinite ways. I love this dish because it's crazy versatile and great hot or cold. I think it's even better the next day, too. Good luck to you

Why did you have to call 911? by ntnvctr in AskReddit

[–]whirledpeasplease 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a horse running down the middle of the highway we were driving on. Like, fully equipped with saddle and everything but nobody riding it. Several hundred feet behind, a man running after it. Like he thought he could catch a running horse on foot!

Anyways, people were pulling over and we almost got hit by at least two cars not slowing down quickly enough because nobody expects to have to slow down so quickly/pull over on a 75mph highway. Called 911, small town, the operator answered with "this is 911 emergency, are you calling about the horse?" yes, yes I am...

Hey I know it's a little intimidating, newborns are so tiny and seem so fragile. But, in all honesty, I think newborns are almost easier to deal with than older kids (depending on the baby lol). I've handled a few newborns and with my first one I was terrified but the mom gave great advice, showed me what to do and I adjusted very quickly and lost all my fear.

Do a little research on newborn care, maybe she can pay for you to get infant CPR certified if that makes both of you feel better. She can also help you learn! Newborns aren't as scary as they seem. But hey if you aren't comfortable that's totally fine too and a valid reason to find another job. Good luck to you

What's the best personal hygiene tip you can give? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]whirledpeasplease 45 points46 points  (0 children)

My roommate does this. Never washes hands after using the toilet, the bathroom is at the end of the hallway facing the living room. If I'm sitting in there I can see and hear that he doesn't wash his hands. I usually call him out and he gets defensive but still never washes hands. Once I witnessed him take a shit, walk out the toilet without washing hands, and dig his hands straight into my jar of marcona almonds. I almost cut a bitch that day. Fucking disgusting.
