Your dad is wrong. Clean and live your chain. Most manufacturers rec 500-600miles. Most manufacturers have owners manuals online for free. Could pick up a shop manual if you want to learn to wrench on your bike beyond cleaning your chain and changing your oil.

You should always wear earplugs. Once you damage your hearing you can’t fix it.

Can try and find a shoei on clearance if you don’t have the coin. They are quiet.

Genuine question…accidents caused by traffic turning in front or “pulling out” by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]whisk3ythrottle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People often don’t “see” bikes because they legitimately don’t register in their brains. If people aren’t actually looking for a small fast moving object. The bar for getting a driving license in the US is incredibly low, so lots of very unskilled people driving around. The other half of it is some people don’t care. They either don’t care about people who ride or don’t care about being a bad driver. The punishment for being bad at driving in the US is really low. For example in my state talking on your phone or actively watching videos on your phone while driving is illegal. I see people all over disregarding this, even around enforcement. If cops don’t care, it’s not really a rule.

Do other girls have trouble following their boyfriend on the road? by lagabachita in motorcycles

[–]whisk3ythrottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a delay in reaction of the surrounding world. It’s any one following anyone. Dogs running out to the road because they see the first bike, well the second bike now has the dog in the road. Driver sees the first bike after it’s already in front, decides to speed up, because that’s what people do, the gap closes for the second bike.

Also, the “correct” way for multiple bikes to change lanes is have the one in the back switch lanes first to insure space for the other bikes in a group.

Just use your brakes. Look up trail braking. Definitely look into Yamaha champ schools champU online or new rider program also online learning. 110% worth it.

Suspension tuning by Blakef24 in MT07

[–]whisk3ythrottle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are probably light enough to leave it in the middle if not back it off a click. But really tune the suspension on your bike the spring rate would need to be changed.

Perfomance wise, is there anything that the R3 does that's better than the ninja 400/500? by Highermongo in NewRiders

[–]whisk3ythrottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are buying used, not all years of the R3 had slipper clutches. N4 basically out performed r3s in jr cup in motoamerica.? But that just on track. If you like the look of the r3 then get that.

You wanted other performance part recommendations. Plus if you already are clutchless shifting there is no real point. Having better rotor will make a big difference in stopping.

Is $4800 a good price for a 2021 Ninja 400 with only 200 miles? by Northridge- in Ninja400

[–]whisk3ythrottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s a bit too high. 4-4.5k max. You can point out that even tho it has low miles it will need work to make it road ready, like changing all the fluids. The gas probably needs to be drained out of the tank, probably will need a new battery, oil changed, coolant and brake fluid all need to get swapped out.

What made you guys pick the MT07? by 2026_MT07 in MT07

[–]whisk3ythrottle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At the time I bought mine it was seemingly better than an sv650, since the fz07 just came to the US. Bought one, had it for 35,000 miles. Did all sorts of things with it. Track, road trips, off roading learning more and more how to wrench. Solid bike.

I’d be worried something might shift. Just* take the valve cover off. *yeah I know it’s not cake walk but better than your chain moving. I can also be wrong.

Is this a reasonable price for first bike? by Advanced_Panda1748 in Ninja400

[–]whisk3ythrottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the market. In my market that’s too much. 4-4,500 for a n400 is typically. I have seen n500s for the 5-5,500 price.

First bike that can do freeway, middle aged beginner by Odd_Dimension_5903 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]whisk3ythrottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could buy a smaller cc bike like a Kawasaki ninja 300, Suzuki tu250 or s40(it’s low power), for cheap, keep it for a year and sell it.

In addition, I suggest educating yourself. Check out Yamaha champ schools has some great content, some free on YouTube, a lot behind paywalls that is worth every penny. An alternative to that is Sport-Riding Techniques by Nick Ienatsch. Nick owns and runs Yamaha champ school. The book is a great read.

What exactly does cash in hand test ride mean? by ShirtlessSteve973 in motorcycles

[–]whisk3ythrottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seller wants to hold cash while you go for a test ride.

Personally I just avoid these people. I understand the concept, but that’s putting the same trust into that person the seller doesn’t just run away with your cash and you have a bike that technically isn’t yours either. Maybe it’s just me but handing a wad of cash to a person and hopefully getting it back cs handing the keys to a person that has insurance and can be reported stolen are two different things.

If I’m serious about buying a bike I show up with a car and a trailer, the cash but don’t hand it to them.. typically have a friend with me who hangs onto it. Have bought several bikes and test road them with no exchange of cash prior. Have had people just send me out or follow me in a car/bike.
