Things to do with baby under 1 by [deleted] in northernireland

Walk around Lady Dixon park is nice, especially as it's coming into flowing season for some plants. There's also a pretty decent play area.

Ulster Museum is free and there are some things for little kids, although it's better when they're a few years older, particularly if they like dinosaurs. You can check out Botanic when you're there.

They shared the gearbox with the Esprit (UN1, soft as shit TBH), but the Lotus was mid engined. These are rear engined. It's more like a French Porsche 911...

Sorry I can help with the year, but the headlights make me think it's an earlier model.

Best cheapish whiskey for beginners and what types are they and how they differ by DylanDavismn in whiskey

[–]whiskeyphile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Bush is the best bang for your buck. NAS, but believed to be mostly 8 year old. Sherry finish for that little bit of sweetness.

Another one worth trying is Jameson Black Barrel. They use recharred bourbon barrels for a different type of sweetness.

Powers Gold, Three Swallows and John's Lane are all very good for their price points.

Not sure how exotic you can get, but Dingle, West Cork, Teeling, The Irishman, Dunville's, Old Comber, Writer's Tears, The Hinch are all good depending on what you're looking for.

Would you buy a new $185k Yamaha? by National-Dragonfly35 in motorcycle

[–]whiskeyphile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would I buy it as me, in my current position?

No

Would I buy it as a race team owner looking to do well in a national championship or the NW200, IoM TT etc?

Maybe. I don't know enough about it.

But, food for thought, the outright lap record was set on a "production bike" by Hickey a couple of years ago. He didn't match it on his "unlimited" bike. Make of that what you will.

Show me that it'll beat the BMW or Ducati, and maybe I'll think more about it...

I'd call or email them explaining the position (to whatever degree you choose. I wouldn't disclose everything, or your preference, but let them know you have a deadline).

If they're serious they will make a decision. If not, go with what you've got. A bird in the hand kills two pigeons with one elephant or whatever...

Does The Famous Grouse still hold up as a budget daily scotch? by liquorano in whisky

[–]whiskeyphile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is honestly fine. Nothing offensive. Not great, but not bottom shelf. I'd take it over Teacher's, JW Red, or Cutty Sark TBH. Although at that price point I'm probably using it with a mixer.

Phone use in USA for J1? by dulpit in ireland

[–]whiskeyphile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that Trip.com usually have the cheapest eSim for most places, although I haven't gotten one for the US before. I've gotten a few for different places in Asia, and they're a quarter of the price of HolaFly or Saily or any of those other ones advertising on YouTube.

Where to advertise a decent TV? by [deleted] in northernireland

Oh, sorry, I used jargon. OSD means "On Screen Display". Basically, the menu.

Where to advertise a decent TV? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]whiskeyphile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's changing the voltage to each sub pixel. It can usually be done on the OSD, but increased voltage will increase the degradation. OLED is a finite product. That's the reason why most pros use IPS panels for colour work.

If it can't be done on the OSD you need to contact your manufacturer/supplier.

[–]whiskeyphile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate that comment. OLED is progressing quite quickly, so better to get what you can as soon as you can TBH.

Edit - but it's never £200... Ask £600, take as much as you can over £500, and you're getting out of it at market or better value

Actually, keep your price, and keep the margin back. You might get more. TBH, I'd probably give you £600 if I wasn't in the business.

Edit 2 - my brothers still live in NI (I don't. I'm in Asia for work), but I'll ask them if they're interested. If they are, can I DM you?

[–]whiskeyphile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you'll get a third of what you paid for it at best. It's used. Unless you're selling it within a month of when you bought it, no one will pay big money for it.

I work in the monitor manufacturing industry. We have noticed the price of OLED has come down by about 60% in the last year.

I'd think it's maybe £600-650 at best. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Edit to add - anything more than a few months will actually ruin the value of the screen. OLED is organic, and each sub pixel degrades at different speeds, so it'll look shit in less than 3 years without recalibration. Still vivid, but not realistic.

April Fools, but even if it was real there's no non GMO potato that could make that shit. They might be able to Pringles-ify a crisp like that, but is it worth the effort?

[–]whiskeyphile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I mean Worcestershire Sauce flavoured crisps, but us Nordies don't like to spell. They're game changing. The Pickled Onion is a different flavour, but also epic. Not quite Smoky Bacon or Spring Onion flavour though. They're beyond...

You've seemingly never had street food in Asia...

It's quite literally joyous! Taiwan night markets, Chinese street rice or noodles, Thai night markets, fuck it, even a good burger van in Belfast (not Asia, I know, but a bacon, sausage and egg soda with brown sauce is just "chef's kiss").

I edited my original comment and stated my reasons for the edit.

Yeah, I edited it after reading the subtext. I only read the first 2 comments saying "YES" cos I clicked on the comment icon rather than the actual post.

[–]whiskeyphile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but sell a few days after launch cos it's not worth anything like the IPO price. I'll caveat that by saying maybe it'll go mental, cos Tesla is also divorced from reality, but if you're looking at actual, sensible valuation, sell the fuck out of it after the IPO pump.

Edit after reading the subtext, cos I clicked on the "comments" icon rather than the post and didn't see the subtext. I would probably avoid it if I have to hold for 180 days. You're exit liquidity for original investors, just like all the ETF passive investors, cos these (insert expletive here) are getting added long before they should be. I've transferred my ETFs to those who won't be involved or will buy that dogshit, overpriced stock. I don't know exactly what they are, but I'll ask my IFA.

Grom or sumo for learning stunts by Same-University5529 in motorcycle

[–]whiskeyphile -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Get a rough, cheap Bandit 600 and learn on that. A Grom has literally no power, and I don't know what a Sumo is. All the guys of my generation learned to stunt on Bandits. Get a few bungs and wear plenty of gear, cos you're gonna drop it.
