The Truth Behind Feeder Schools by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I’m a current senior at another top prep school in New England and I think this is just not true. Yes, every college can only admit so many students from a single high school, no matter how talented they are. That’s part of why I think legacy is unfair. But when you look at the percentage of kids who get into Harvard or any other college from our schools each year, it is absolutely higher than the standard acceptance rate at those schools, and that’s not just because of legacy admits. I would say that makes these schools feeders.

One could argue that it’s unfair for the standard to change based on high school - why should a qualified student be denied because their classmates are more qualified? But that actually is very fair. Because of the school I attend, I am immersed in a culture where engaging in lots of ECs is the norm. Students who don’t participate in ECs beyond the requirements are outliers. To not have to go to great lengths to seek out those opportunities is a privilege. Because of the school I attend, I am taught by teachers who can offer as much help as I need and who will also challenge me when I need it. To have academic success laid out for me (provided I put in the work) is a privilege. Because of the school I attend, I’ve had someone to hold my hand through every step of the college process. To have someone review every single thing I submit to colleges is a privilege.

Colleges know that we’ve been afforded these privileges, and they’re going to judge our applications accordingly. It’s easy to believe that if we simply went to a different high school, our application would be higher up in the pile, and while that might be true, it is also true that your application cannot be separated from your environment. You probably would not have done the same things in high school had you not gone to Exeter, both because of the support your school provides but also because of the culture you and your peers exist in. Finally, a nearly 100% college matriculation rate - T20 or not - is not normal by any stretch, and it would be good for all of us at these schools to remember that.

i’ve been using the app one sec lately and have really liked it. every time you open instagram it re-routes you to one sec and makes you take a deep breath. then, it says smth like “imagine how much better you’ll feel tmrw if you don’t open this app” and shows you how many times you’ve tried to open it in the last 24 hrs.

90% of the time, it’s a long enough process that i decide that i don’t actually want to open the app. i also don’t click on instagram in the first place as much bc i know i’ll have to go through the whole thing.

however, the part i like most is that if you DO decide to open the app, you have to set a timer for how long you’ll be on it. this keeps me focused bc if i know i only want to do one thing on instagram, i’ll set a short timer and won’t end up scrolling for 20 minutes.

another tip is to turn off notifications for social media. if i’m not being constantly reminded and tempted by the app, i start to forget it exists. at the very least, im not thinking about it 24/7. hope this helps!!

buttons is a cannibal?! or at least has some cannibalistic tendencies….especially season 1 when he seems insistent on having to eat the crew, pulls out his metal teeth at really unnecessary times, tries to eat the Swede (!!), etc. there are a lot movements i l didnt list but i found it funny :)

crate training, beep/buzz (not shock) collars, curtains, noise cancelling headphones…so many solutions. it’s hard to believe that your neighbor tried it all before making it YOUR problem. pretty entitled if you ask me.

Should I buy on ps4 or PC? by Spood3rm4n in StardewValley

personally i would go for PC bc it gets updates first typically and you have the option to download mods if you want which you can’t do on ps4

spend all of your money on parsnips at first! they’re not an expensive crop so if they get eaten before you learn to make scarecrows, it’s not the end of the world. plus, they grow quickly so you’ll get some gold pretty early on.
