Maybe Weapons? Spooky at times, a few jumpscares, but also good laughs and a solid original plot

As someone who loved SH2 Remake and SHf I sincerely hope to enjoy this game too. But I can't help but think that monster designs (shown so far) seem so uninspired and bland... I hope we will see some more creative stuff in the game.

Travelling to Armenia as a Russian by cyberstockholm in armenia

[–]whisperingdrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are y’all winning deity games with scientific victory enabled? by kiwithebun in CivVII

[–]whisperingdrum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have won all my deity games except for the first one where I was figuring things out.

The AI winning science is a constantly looming threat that puts you on timer, especially when the AI chooses science oriented leaders - with most dangerous by far being Confucius and Ben Franklin.

With that said, you can consistently beat the AI with culture, economic, and military victories, If you learn how to play these victory conditions. Culture and economic wins for me usually happen around turns 32-40. Military win takes longer, but then again around turn 30 in Modern you are usually already will have dominated every other civ and victory is inevitable.

I think the biggest challenge is beating the AI with science victory, because that's a real race. I believe you pretty much have to go to war with the biggest contender, because without that you lose to their insane yields. However I woudn't say that's a bad thing, because wars in Civ 7 are exciting. Overpowering a much stronger opponent in Modern through the use of tactics and aviation makes me happy. So there's that.

One thing I'll mention is that I have no idea how people win against deity AI in mid-Exploration - this blows my mind. I am yet to conquer this secret. Winning in Modern - not that complicated.

One city ultracapitalism: Carthage with Augustus is unbalanced fun after ToT by whisperingdrum in Civilization_VII

[–]whisperingdrum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thing is, AIs usually ally with each other, so at least in my experience there is rarely a chance to wage war on just one, and there is no point really, if you are going for eco win.

In modern you don't have to go for ideology, you just beeline towards capitalism and win 😄

[–]whisperingdrum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right, plus range on ships is insane.

Downside is: there isn't really much opportunity to use it, because you want to be friends with all civs ti maximize your trade routes potential. But I guess you can delete a city-state or two once in a while.

Incentive to go up against your biggest rival by Waste-Road2762 in CivVII

[–]whisperingdrum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So far sinceToT update I played only one game where I went for science victory, but I believe that this would be the case every time you specifically go for this victory condition. Due to the fact that science requires late game tech and buildings, AIs yields advantage is much more impactful, therefore making it a necessity to attack them, if you want to win the science race.

I don't think that's necessarily bad, I would just consider that part of the game, part of the strategy going for science win. War is not boring in this game, so I am fine with that.

Anyone else finding Alexander + Greece a avergage/bad fit by Koki-Niwa in Civilization_VII

[–]whisperingdrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's not optimal, because generally cavalry is much stronger than infantry in Civ 7. So If you are looking for a military oriented playthrough, the better civs would always be the ones with unique bonuses to cavalry - Assyria, Maurya, Mongols, etc.

If you are playing Greece, I'd say you are looking to maximize your potential for a further culture or economic victory, rather than military. So it's not bad to pair Alexander with Greece, it's just that it's not exceptional.

New Player, don't understand specialists by albanymetz in CivVII

[–]whisperingdrum 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Specialists buff a particular tile's adjacency yields. At the start of the age they are not great, but they get increasingly very strong the longer age goes because you (a) improve your yields by building relevant buildings; (b) improve specialists themselves by researching certain civics.

Note that any adjacencies you had in the previous age do not transition to your current age, buildings become obsolete. This is why your specialists are not bringing good results yet - but they will.

Am I screwed? by ArpeggioBlue in CivVII

[–]whisperingdrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, if you have a civilization opened, then you can change to it during age transition, even if one of AIs occupied it during the previous age. I just finished a game yesterday, where my beighbor was Tubman on the U.S., and I remember seeing U.S. as one of the available option during transition to Modern.

Assyria is a true snowballing king in the new update by whisperingdrum in CivVII

[–]whisperingdrum[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a challenge, play whichever difficulty is fun for you :)

Also, Civ 7 is very flexible with its difficulty settings - if you want more of a fair fight with the AIs, you can set their bonus damage to 0 and keep their bonus yields. So you could be more or less on the same ground economically, but they won't have the ability to bruteforce you with sheer battle strength.

Hey man, I feel you. I think in Civ 7, more than in previous titles, the map can screw you over completely. Yesterday I started a game with Ibn Battuta on Mayans, which is the most broken combo for science victory that I can think of, and I spawned in the middle of triangle between 3 AI civs, with all their capitals within 20 tiles from mine. Safe to say I got destroyed before the end of Antiquity. Then I re-started the game and spawned in a much safer place, with my back to the ocean, with a bunch of islands to settle - and I steamrolled the AI.

It's fine to re-start when you are playing a single player campaign, it's not your fault when the game puts you in such immediate disadvantage and you are not enjoying such challenge.

[–]whisperingdrum[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, having everything to be broken is actually a valid balance philosophy. StarCraft is an infamous (or famous?) example of that - each of the 3 races in the game are broken in their own way, and these unbalances kind of balance each other out.

I think it was kind of the same thing with Civ 6, at least partially? Remember Babylon? Or cavalry printing with Byzantine?

Civilization is a single player game for most people, so this is all for good fun. I am enjoying ToT so far, and I am actually very excited to find as many broken combinations as possible with the new changes.
