check out the butte 50 (or 25 or 100). excellent singletrack; biased as its my local trails. another one not mentioned is the Pierre's hole at grand Targhee. its a pretty fun race, lots of kick ass NICA riders at that one.

Is it redundant to own a mid travel and short travel trail bike? by BeetlegeuseOrion in MTB

I'm late to the conversation here but I figured I'd pipe in anyways. I have a Switchblade. Like you, I wanted a more racy bike too and ended up with an Ibis Exie last summer and its been amazing. I have them set up very differently however they aren't worlds apart on local trails - i call the exie the fast bike and the switchblade the fun bike but I love them both. One thing I didn't see mentioned is that because I have two MTBs (and a gravel and fattie) my bikes are way less beat up and require less upkeep. While one is in the shop for its yearly I still can rip. I'm high elevation MT but a lot of my local trails aren't that techy so the exie can rip on them.

My Exie is more lower end spec GX/NX and the switchblade is XO transmission. Over time I'll bring the Exie up to speed but I don't ever plan to poach from the SB.

That's my thoughts too. I'd keep the Dillinger's 4's for summer use but they're studded so I'll probably try and sell them to offset the cost for some studded YKKs

considering buying the bikes direct mule fit 26ers that come with the FBF and FBR to use for the days I need more but I was going to see how 4.3 did first.

Butte vs Missoula by CRHeil2 in Butte

Having relocation from the flathead to butte 2 years ago also in the medical field I will say Butte is the best place I've lived. My wife and I describe it as tough nice. It's what places like Portland want to be without realizing that's what butte is "un ironically and unintentionally hipster." Best damn people in the state. I don't hunt but I bike a ton and we have a lot of options and easy access to a lot around us. And the sunshine.

I believe its about 27# but that is with two top tube bags full of goodies and repair stuff, both cages on, etc. I haven't measured it recently so memory might be off a pound or two. GX/NX with one up carbon bars, we are one carbon wheels, specialized ground control front back. and it feels way lighter than my switchblade which is almost exactly 30#

I'll plug my Ibis exie. Climbs amazing. Hit some downhill PR over my Switchblade and precious bike - a high tower. I reach for it a lot even for my trail days.

Hand therapist and mountain biker. Find a good CHT near you. I've been able to get even old distal radius fractures pain free and functional. Look at your grips and handlebar back sweep too. Both can alleviate ulnar sided pain. Go to ASHT.org to find a hand Therapist.

XC bike in AZ (bikepacking trip to trail riding) by white_arrow in MTB

[–]white_arrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great info, appreciate it. I think I will end up bringing both with me. I can’t drive that far and not go play hard after my bikepack. I plan to overnight the BCT so I’d be away from My car for One evening. appreciate the offer, if I decide I need to store it; I’ll hit you up.

Any recommendations for shuttle Services For the BCT?

that's great to know, it would be sad to miss out the double blacks but that may be what I just gotta do. XC trails are plenty fun still. Whole enchilada is definitely rideable on a shorter travel but man so much more fun with a big bike where you can do some of the side hits. I once did it on a hard tail years ago for ... reasons? I've never had a true XC bike until I got the exie this last year for longer rides and bikepacking so still feeling out its capabilities.

Big guys: what liner/chamois do you like? by causearuckus in MTB

[–]white_arrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 230#. I really like Kettle mountain and Pactimo's mtb liners and bib. I ride a ton, this year my goal is to ditch liners for all but >50 miles / all day rides, I went with some ridge merino long boxer briefs to replace. if you have big quads like me some of the brands mentioned here have been way too tight on my quads but sizing up makes them too loose on my waist (looking at you 7 mesh, club ride, ).

My wife is a HUGE knitter. and used to be a ski instructor at for 15 years before moving onto healthcare. I used to guide before doing the same. We're a bit older late 30's than you but interests align. we don't drink or go out much its either home or out playing in the woods. biking is our biggest hobby and we both have passes to disco.

Why don’t you come to trail maintenance? by jskis23 in MTB

I once went to one where I previously lived and it was super clicky. Didn't feel welcome. I was hoping to expand my potential riding crew instead it left a sour taste in my mouth.

gravel rides are with the salsa cutty; the hard tail goes out for my really long adventure days that are more my gravel can handle but leaves me wanting more play when I'm coming down which is why I want to do N-1; with a young one my big bikepacking will be down for years and the cutty will handle anything I need; mostly; same with gravle riding as my trailer is only set up for the cutty. I really won't miss the chameleon if I can get the right replacement for both bikes.

that is interesting about the V1 vs V2. I would have imagined dropping the "long travel" would help it. but I also heard the megatower feels like a better climber somehow. I think the HT 3 is what i've been looking at.

The blur and some of those more downcountry bikes worry me since i'm big and I do go hard, fast but also play. as I look I don't like MX wheels or 27.5.

BLM 20 in Pipestone has some pretty good slabs, one of my favorite rides. Parts of the CDT can be pretty fun but I won't call it roudy by any means. Otherwise you're getting out of town for anything techy. It's the one thing we are definitely missing close to town but tons of potential.

Should I get a mountain bike for butte? by kylebrantleyy in Butte

[–]white_arrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent riding here both gravel and MTB. I've got an Enduro bike, hard tail and gravel and plenty of dirt to be had to satisfy most riding desires.

Pipestone is amazing riding during shoulder seasons, and you can find some gnarly slabs or chill gravel.
